Your comment - "don't know when or how to stop" - pretty much says it all. Trying deperately to keep it all together at all costs an hectoring the sheep.

New Light Coming?
by dontomas inhi - i have jw friends (really!
) and have gone to kh for some talks and study every couple of weeks.
things like the new watchtower policy, selling buildings (i am from nyc and know the heights well - that will make a boatload of money), the sex abuse settlements, drop in membership and donations, and some of the changes i have seen in the magazine (the annointed qfr, for example).

Furthermore - WT like a lot of religions makes great claims about being God's channel to reveal his will to earth. So how come no new revelations, even little ones? Just the same/same every minute of every day. There has got to be something more and I think people will know that.

A good question - my answer as a close observer would be that even some of the hard-core are going to get bored and sick of it after a while, especially because there has been no Armageddon and they are told that it is basically their fault.

I was somewhat interested in becming a JW and do actually agree with some of the doctrines. I am less so now that I have been involved in it a little more - the non-stop broken record harping on the the slave class, annointed, whatever has quite turned me off. There is enough of this elitist nonsense in the real world.

Hi - I have JW friends (really!) and have gone to KH for some talks and study every couple of weeks. Things like the new Watchtower policy, selling buildings (I am from NYC and know the Heights well - that will make a boatload of money), the sex abuse settlements, drop in membership and donations, and some of the changes I have seen in the magazine (the Annointed QFR, for example). I tried to engage the friend I study with on some of these things happening all at once and received the response that none of it mattered. I riposted that all of this happening all at once in any other church WOULD be a big deal. I would like to bring up the topic of "new light" in our next talk. What new light does anyone here see coming? I have a feeling anything goes will soon be the order of the day.
Thanks

JW doctrine on civil service
by dontomas inhi guys.
how does wts feel about working for any federal, state or local government?
i would imagine that would be frowned on, even if it is "non-violent".

Interesting - THAT I thought was totally NG. I come out of a law enforcement background myself and didn't know a single JW. I don't know how someone could handle being an elder and a cop unless he was cooping and doing "Gilligan Shifts" (i.e - three hour tours.)

This is one of the best articles on Mormonism I ever read and is right on the mark in my humble opinion.....I don't think this magazine is around anymore but its articles survive on a few websites....link follows.

Hi Guys
How does WTS feel about working for any federal, state or local government? I would imagine that would be frowned on, even if it is "non-violent". Nevertheless, I have encountered a few lifelong JWs who are/were in civil service jobs. Based on WTS recent emphasis on getting employment that facilitates witnessing, it would seem that a lot of these jobs are great, no - lots of leave, regular hours, and so forth.
I read the 10/1 Watchtower "college" article and had to chuckle a little bit - I actually ended up going to regular college because I SUCKED at vocational subjects that interested me. The article makes it seem like doing vocational/tech work is something that anyone can do. Anyone else feel that way?
Have a nice day.

Should You Believe In The Trinity? - Maybe
by dontomas inhi folks.
i am new to this board and since i am currently undergoing bible study with a jw elder, thought it would be a good idea to expose myself to other viewpoints on what i am learning from him.. a while ago i read "should you believe in the trininty".
having had a barely adequate education, i knew a lot of the names of the father's cited therein but had never really read anything they wrote.

HI - MJ
Thanks for the response and to everyone else who put some meaty topics up here for me to read....
"Christian groups cannot all be classified into the same category in the terms you present. " - OK - Got me. I suppose that my impressions on "Christendom" (which is a poor but subconscious choice of words) are too generalized. FYI I am a Roman Catholic, so...
" Its just that SOME groups have enough "muscle" with respect to the minds and actions of their members to force them to uphold a particular image. In such cases the dirty side of things is simply covered up and done in secret, but it still exists!"
Is pretty applicable and have made me really dissapointed sometimes, especially when my church goes to the palmy forces of the world to protect its money and influence, which it is doing lately.
On research though, it seems that Watchtower is engaged in doing exactly the same. I was really disappointed to find this out. That along with its faulty beliefs on numerous topics have pretty much pushed me away at this point. Does not make me dislike JWs, though. There are a lot of individual ones who are walking the walk that I know, like this Elder.
I have learned much as a result of this query.
God Bless

H-Rider - Thanks for leading me to the very thought-provoking thread that I hope to read completely sometime today. I am truly sorry that so many people have had miserable experiences with WT, et al. and I have really taken that into account. The comment on church viz. publishing company is something that had not occured to me before.
I am very fond of a lot of the things I read in WT publications and find the direct lessons from the word to be refreshing as opposed to the mealy politically motivated blabber I am hearing within Christendom these days. I love God's Word and wish to draw more upon it. Watchtower magazine has helped me do this to some extent.
That said, however, you dont' have to eat the whole apple to know that it is rotten. If one is dishonest in small things like the cross issue, it generally extends to "big" things like the nature of God and impending doom.
Like I said, I think I am done with this. Thanks for expanding my perspective.
God Bless All Here
Don Tomas
