those who simply cease to be involved in the faith are not shunned.
in compliance with the scriptures, however, members can be expelled for serious unchristian conduct, such as stealing, drunkenness, or adultery, if they do not repent and cease such actions.

I have JW's staying with me...help!
by Princess ini have had my jw cousin and his wife and three children staying at my house since sunday.
i thought i'd just share a few experiences with you all.. my husband and i are marveling at the numerous compromises they have made since coming here to washington state from wisconsin.
they are here to visit his disfellowshipped mother who has cancer.

Now That I've Joined, I wish That I Hadn't

i'm not talking about the point where we developed doubts about the borg, but just the shear weight of responsibility on your shoulders to uphold "god's kingdom" ala wts.. the topic of doing all you can was brought up frequently.
some would try to sooth by saying "as long as you're doing your best, jehovah will accept you.

I totally agree! As the daughter of a PO & I was a reg pioneer - I had never been as sick in my whole life. The only accepted excuse for not going above and beyond was if you were ill. A week didn't go by that I wasn't sick. In the last 10 yrs (since I've been out) I've never been so healthy - it's a miracle ---- Praise Jah! ;o) LOL

who would you trust
by joelbear intaking the watchtower society out of the equation.. who would you trust more based on your history with them, the witnesses you have known throughout your life or the people you have interacted with here on this board?.
i wish people nothing but peace, but i certainly hope people have another source of peace and support in their life than this group of people offers.

Why DO they stay?
by BugEye inthere is much discussion of the "dumbness" of those still in and the reason that they stay.. some of the reasons that i have seen are:.
they want everything in black and white.. they prefer to leave thinking to others.. they are scared to be shunned.. they are just ignorant souls who are on the "opium of the people".
they dont want others to think bad of them.. while i agree that there is no one single reason and that everyone is different, i feel that the real reason is a much deeper one.

I think my parents are in too deep. They have made too many sacrifices, given up too much to admit they've been wrong all these years. They've chosen the religion over their family, children & grandchildren. If suddenly they were to accept that it was all for nothing - I think they could snap. Seriously.
