  The "free choice" rule only applies if you live in a country where the government demands that the society butt out of your medical affairs without imposing penalties on ones who choose different from the borg rules. Anywhere else, you are free game for DF'ing, or as they like to term it ... "disassociate yourself by your actions".

  the witnesses came to my complex today, this time it was two very good looking women.

  i walked up to them and calmly said that this is the second warning that they were trespassing on my property and that no jehovah's witnesses are aloud on this property knocking on doors.

  i have a tenant who is a jw and this is fine with me and they are aloud to come and visit her but i do not allow them to bother my tenants as they all prefer they stay away anyways.

  Whats wrong with Hooters?

  just been looking at an old post about "what jw's are not allowed to do " and one reply was not to eat at hooters, whats that about?.

  It's not pubescent to like boobs. It's pubescent to call them hooters and name a restaurant hooters. That's embarrassing to a lot of us Americans. Nothing wrong with pretty girls, just kind of tacky calling their breasts hooters. It's the word I have a problem with, not the breasts. I have a pair of them myself.

  Yeah ... a restaurant called "BREASTS" would go over a lot better, I think! Not! I don't like it when men refer to them as "hooters" either, really. It's about a step up from calling them "tiddies".

  i would love to see original scans of newspaper articles about his divorce.

  here is one from 3 years after the divorce.

  Thank you for the link, Baba. Now that I read it, I think I have seen it before. I will have to bookmark it! I would to have a copy of the entire transcript of the proceedings from start to finish. I bet it is bore, but probably has some good insight into his character and how he behaved with others.

  Also, I am not surprised that the alimony was that much. He was a wealthy man. He owned like five businesses, or something like that, before selling them all and pouring it into his "ministry". Plus, after starting his book publishing company, he became even wealthier. The $7000 included lawyer fees, too, so not all of was alimony. Even so, I think $2000 a year would have been a drop in the bucket for him. I thought it was interesting that the article specifically said that wealthy "women" paid this for him. What? No wealthy men around? I wonder how accurate that is.

  I can't get over that girl calling him her "spiritual bridegroom"! That made me throw up in my mouth a little! Did he ever refer to himself as that in any of his sermons or in writings, or do you think this is just something that the crazy girl came up with.

  Personally, I think they were all crazy ... I guess there are deeper shades of red, though.

  I don't know. I have never read the entire divorce transcript in its entirety. Is it available online? This newspaper seems to definitely not think too highly of him, so I guess it is possible that they embellished, but somehow I doubt it.

  Also, does anyone know of anyplace online where the Brooklyn Eagle archives are available? I found a website where their archives are availble from the mid 1800s until 1902, but unless I am mistaken, Russell did not make the move to Brooklyn until a few years after that.

  i had an assignment to write a bunch of holiday articles that would be shared by all the various papers owned by the guy who owns the paper i'm the editor of.

  after i'd had enough with the usual holiday stuff, i decided to get a little adventerous and expanded one in the series to include, not just the origins of christmas foods, but also some ideas i've been reading and watching about the origins of the chrisitain religion itself.. this is a link to the article, which ran a few weeks ago: .

  What contributes to a "climate of fear" in the congregation?

  i was thinking about how much fear there is among jehovah's witnesses in relating to each other.. if you could read the private thoughts of jw's, you'd probably be surprised at the level of fear they have of each other.. this fear is not likely to be the morbid kind of fear, but the other kind of fear that concerns "what will people think of me?".

  you watched a movie at the weekend, it was rated pg, but you are afraid to tell your friends that you went to see it.. you were only able to report 4 hours of field service that month, but you are afraid to report this number so you tweak it.. you missed several meetings due to sickness, you still feel unwell, but you fear what the congregation may think so you force yourself to go.. you went on a weekend getaway, but you are afraid to tell the friends why you were missing that weekend in case they think you put kingdom interests last.. you watched a good book, but you are afraid to talk about it to your friends because they might be stumbled.. you heard of someone who got disfellowshipped but you are afraid to ask what happened.. you were unable to take friday off for the convention, but you fear what will be said about you.. you did not auxiliary pioneer during the memorial season and you are afraid people will think of you as spiritually weak.. .

  not everyone will let these things bother them, but many do.. this climate of fear and worry about what the congregation may or may not think does not contribute to a loving atmosphere.. what other things can you think of that contribute to a climate of fear?.

  Witnesses are all about appearance. It keeps them in a constant state of fear. It's like they think that the witness who LOOKS the best will survive armageddon. The religion makes for an artificial apperance for a person with artificial thoughts.

  I am wondering what you all think about this? Do you think Russell was another "David Koresh" with multiple "spiritual brides" or do you think he was really celibate? I tend to lean toward the former, but it is, of course, pure speculation. His comments sound perverse and creepy to me.

  A "Stumbling" Question

  i posted a few months ago, explaining how my long-time boyfriend, who is a jw, was not willing to compromise with my beliefs and lifestyle.. anyways, we have since broken up, but are still good friends.

  he continues to insist that i start another bible study, but i tell him, i won't because he hasn't answered many of my questions, which include 1914, the 144,000, etc.

  i also said i want these questions answered from outside sources besides the wt.. i've tried to come up with ways to get him to understand his religion isn't the truth, but i don't think it is possible, as i'm sure many of you understand.. anyways, i asked him this question the other day:.
