He definitely left his footprint on this earth and helped a lot of people. RIP Tim.

Just wondering ....
by talesin inthere are many new posters here, and i'm very interested to learn why you chose your screen names.. .
one book i read, the mists of avalon, was very important to me.
among the main characters was merlin, who in the book, was called "taliesen".

Well ... many years ago when I was still a witness, I created the username "Iwannaleave", but then I left. I'm sure you can see the dilemma! So ... I chose a new name! I love the children's book "Where the Wild Things Are" and at the time, I felt like a Wild Thing, and I felt like the rest of you were too!

Has the org changed their position on associating with non-JW family?
by Wild_Thing init would take too long to explain how this conversation came about, but my jw sister recently told me that the organization now teaches that you can (she even suggested that you "should") have a relationship with family members who are not jw.
she didn't specify whether they meant family who were never jws to begin with, or what, but in the context of the conversation we were talking about family members raised as jws but then left (not disfellowshipped or formally disassociated ... just left).. she said they even had a talk about it at the convention this summer, and had an experience of someone who reconnected with family after 10 years.
she said they said you should have a relationship with them, even if they never become witnesses.

To be honest, this totally blew me out of the water. I was baptized when I was ten, and quietly left as a an adult, and my relationship with her and my JW family has been quite compliated over the years, but has been quite good for the past 2 or 3 years. I just always thought they finally came their senses about violating that unspoken rule of shunning non-JW family.
Does anybody have any insight on this? Did anyone here anything about this happening at conventions in your area?

I knew the man that died, Monty Hardy, from when I was a JW in Texas. He was a nice man. I think he went to Grapevine or Bedford congregation ... can't remember which. So sad he died while in service to the 'borg'.

Does anyone find it too painful to read the WTS publications?
by dissed inbeen out 13 years and even for research purposes, i find it way too painful to read this wt stuff.. and why?.
all the painful memories it brings back.
don't misread me, it has nothing to do with a guilty conscience.. it has to do with the real pain, the anger of being ripped off and lied too by the wts, the anger of seing how they have protected child molesters, sacrificed its followers by refusing blood transfusions, the treacherous way we and others were treated by the 'unloving brothers'.

The name was released today. I heard he shot himself in the bathroom. He torched the place and then ran to the bathroom to kill himself. Odd and tragic. He did go by Ed, so I assume his middle name is Edward. http://www.kansascity.com/news/breaking_news/story/727229.html
