No. As long as humans exist, they will constantly be searching for answers to things they don't understand, and so will continue to invent religions to explain it all. All the science in the world will not satisfy human curiosity. It's in our nature. I think the best we can hope for is that people stop using religion to try to control people. I am even skeptical about that.

Do You Think Humanity Will Ever Be Completely Free From Religion?
by InjusticeSystem ini realize that many here still have a form of spirituality or faith, and i mean no disrespect to those individuals.
i suppose i am posting this question to those, like myself, who have come to the conclusion that religion in general is a major hindrance to the progress of our species and needs to be put aside so that we can advance to our full potential.
so my question is, do you think this will ever actually happen, and how do you think we can get there?

by why144000 inthinking about a recent post regarding correspondence regarding disassociation i would like to see a unsubscribe button on the front page of jw.org when i get useless spam emails there is usually an unsubscribe button to stop getting this crap sent to me.
usually i get one last email confirming my deletion.. if the society did put an unsubscribe button on their website i am sure it would be used so much it would melt down the site!.

Went to a Catholic Funeral Today
by Captain Schmideo2 init was for a dear friend of the family that i have known all my life.now, bear in mind that i was born and raised jw, so my experience with catholic ceremonies can be counted on three fingers, a wedding, a "regular" mass, and this funeral mass.once they got down to the actual speaking about the deceased, i felt emotionally involved, but prior to that, i was watching and had questions about aspects of the services (these i have seen in common for all three times i have been in an rc church):why the "sing-song" voice during the prayers?
does god hear it better if you sound all spooky tenor?i observe that every time a reading from one of the gospels takes place, it is preceded by a big musical number:"alleluiah!
alleluiah"( "and nowwwwwwwwwwwwwww, heeeeeeeeeeeeeere's jesus!".

I have been to Catholic funerals a couple of times and I observed the same things. Both that I went to reminded me of JW funerals in the sense that they were so impersonal and not about the person that died at all. And they are very lucky that they let people get up and speak at the funeral. At the ones I went to, the family had to fight with the church to allow them to break from their ritual tradition and allow family members to speak. -

That is one of the questions listed on the JW.ORG website under FAQ. Here is their response in part:
Yes, Jehovah’s Witnesses often help when disaster strikes. We provide practical relief assistance to both Witnesses and non-Witnesses, in harmony with the Bible’s instruction ...
One of the ways donations sent to the branch offices of Jehovah’s Witnesses are used is to relieve victims of disasters. (Acts 11:27-30;2 Corinthians 8:13-15) Since the work is performed by unpaid volunteers, the funds that are allocated go toward actual relief, not administrative expenses. We are careful with all donations.
So ... have any of you experienced a disaster (natural or otherwise) where the organization assisted you?
Do you know of any time where the JW organization gave money or services, other than to rebuild their Kingdumb Halls after a disaster?
Edit: Sorry ... I had no idea that this topic had been already started so recently. I wish I could delete it!

Kind of off the subject ...
Does anyone know how they made this? These types of videos became very popular a few years back, and I am just wondering if they are using a program or what?
I hear the JWs oooo and awww about the videos coming from the org, and I have always imagined some young pimply faced kids sitting up at Bethel and creating this stuff from programs anyone can download off the internet.
On the subject ...
They treat their members like children, and this is proof. This is akin to parents taking their children out in public, but telling them first ... "Smile and be good ... AND DON'T EMBARRASS ME!"

Kind of looking for a quick update
by free2beme ini have been out of the religion since 1996. i used to come to former witness boards a lot in the distant past, and then i lost interest in the subject.
however, with a couple relatives still in and passing the 1914 one hundred year mark, i find myself looking to see what a modern jehovah's witness is believing.
could i get kind of an update on some things.

Seriously condsidering disasscoiating
by Ashley L. ini am seriously considering disassociating myself.
i want to do this because i no longer consider myself one of jehovah's witnesses.
i no longer consider jehovah as my god and i am in a new religion now.
-
Wild_Thing
If you follow THEIR process of disassociating yourself, you are only validating their practice of judging and shunning. Don't give them that power.
If you do not consider yourself a JW, I bet most JWs that know you don't consider you a JW anymore, either. Just cut your losses and stay gone.
The only thing disassociating yourself will do is put your family in a very, very bad predicament. They will be forced to choose between their loyalty to you or to the organization. I guarantee if won't be you. It never is.
