I tried to explain exactly what ancient languages were, but my attempt was futile.

What is the Education Level of the Governing Body members?
by Wild_Thing ini would love to compile a list of the education obtained by the governing body members both past and present.
can anyone provide any information to get me started?.
it still amazes me they think they can translate ancient languages with an 8th grade education.

It still amazes me they think they can translate ancient languages with an 8th grade education. I asked my mom once how in the world could the Governing Body translate ancient Greek and Hebrew without any formal education in those languages. She said she didn't know, but she imagined they used native speakers to help them.

Why Do People Become Jehovah's Witnesses?
by minimus inbesides being raised in the religion , why do people become jws?

Why do people join any religion?
They are looking for something better than the shitty life they are living. Jehovah's Witnesses are good salesmen when it comes to offering hope, and a sense of belonging among their people. It's only after you sign on the dotted line (get dunked for Jehovah) when you realize what the fine print says, and how you've been duped.

The 1914 doctrine: How long it will last?
by opusdei1972 inone hundred years have passed and the society still supports this lie, which of course, is the basis of their other lies, like that of the unfaithful and not discreet slave appointed in 1919. however, i wonder, what will happen after 50 years, when the overlapped generation will pass?.
and if you want, what will happen with this religion in 2100?, could it survive with the same lie??
?.

I just can't imagine a WT saying the end is imminent in 25 years. Who would believe it?
But didn't people say that 25 years ago, too?

I think the only thing that would truly bring the 1914 doctrine to rest would be for the Jehovah's Witnesses as a culture to become more educated than they are. I am talking formally and informally educated. It doesn't take a college degree to read about and understand when Jerusalem was destroyed. Without 607 BCE, their 1914 doctrine crumbles to dust.
Imagine a group of well educated governing body members* sitting around the table and realizing their entire religion contradicts archaeological, historical, and scientific facts.**
* This will never happen.
**This will never happen, either.

Why is it so hurtful to be shunned? Why object to it?
by stuckinarut2 init seems like many feel hurt or saddened by the practice of shunning by witnesses.. yes, when ones who we were close to, perhaps family or ones we thought were close friends choose to follow the warped directions of the society, it may seem hurtful.. but really, our reaction is up to us.
the fact is, these ones have shown that in reality, their love for us was never real or genuine.
no, those relationships were superficial and lacking in substance.

It takes some people a very long time (pointing to self) before they realize they are allowing themselves to be bullied, and have even been a willing participant in the abusive relationship.
One of my very best friends said to me, "We teach people how to treat us." How very true that is, but how very long it takes to accept that!

jw party goes very wrong.
by cobweb inhttps://youtu.be/q6b77gm8xxi.
came across this audio recording on youtube which i found compelling.
an xjw recounts the story of how jws recently had a big party in the us.

The problem with this story is that everything we know about the Witnesses say this scenario is very possible, but it is so incredible, it's hard to believe. I would have to have verification before I believed this, but since they supposedly covered it up, that isn't likely to surface.

Is There an App for That?
by Wild_Thing inhi simon,.
i was just wondering if you have ever considered making an app for this forum.
i would be on here all the time if i could use it on my iphone!

It doesn't keep me logged in, and it is so annoying having to log in every time! Plus ... I think it would be cool if we had an app. And when you did a search in the App Store for Jehovah's Witnesses, it should be the first one to pop up! Now that the JWs have got so techy, they need some competition in that App Store! :)

Hi Simon,
I was just wondering if you have ever considered making an app for this forum. I would be on here all the time if I could use it on my iPhone! It's kind of a pain using it on my iPhone safari browser, so I only visit this site using my laptop. (On second thought, maybe it's good you haven't yet!) :)

I always enjoyed reading what she posted.
I just realized there is no crying smiley. We really need a crying smiley. I bet it would get used a lot here.
