while reading the magazines the other day it occurred to me that jws never really had a very good answer to that question.
because it was aimed at young people and it said something along the lines, "if you believe in god you have a purpose, but if you don't believe in god your life has no purpose or meaning".
i think that is a faulty analysis of the situation.
What is the purpose of life? The answer is simple. The purpose of YOUR life whatever purpose YOU decide to give it.
For someone else to have to tell me what the purpose of my own life is sounds a little presumptuous. I swear, JWs can't think about anything on their own ... not even what the purpose of their own life is.
in geoffrey jackson's autobiography published in in the watchtower, he states that him and his wife went to serve as missionaries on the island nation of tulavu in 1979, and there were only 3 baptized witnesses in all of tulavu, and he translated all of the witness literature into the tuvaluan language in 1980, printing it right there on the island.

conceptual99 ... I have started doing research on the governing body members, just for my own self, and I ran across it on the internet through one of my google searches. I was trying to look up the history of JWs in Tuvalu since that is where Jackson was first a missionary, and jackpot ... I hit the motherload.

For Jackson to note that the Australian. Government printed it is boastful but he has also said that he turned down a scholarship when it is highly unlikely that he was ever offered one.
Exactly! Don't you love how they word things in their autobiography: "Would I accept a scholarship to go to university?" But notice the question isn't answered and it is never stated that he even actually scholarship. And it is highly unlike that an Australian 15 year old boy in 1971 headed for dropping out would be offered a scholarship from any university.

Jenny was his JW Australian wife he married. They were both assigned as missionaries to the island nation of Tuvalu. He has an 8th/9th grade education tops. I don't know the education level of Jenny, but I doubt it was more. Neither of them knew how to speak the language before becoming missionaries there.

This man dropped out of school when he was 15. He does not have any formal education beyond 8th, possibly 9th grade. But he wrote a dictionary and a grammar book. That the Australian government printed "as a gift" to these Island people. I would really like some verification on that.

Very uneducated people.
so for those that are fading, i have been fading for almost 6 months now.
havent been to a meeting, assembly, service, etc.
i no longer believe it is the truth.. how long did you wait before celebrating holidays, if in fact you are even celebrating them.
It took me about a year a half before I could celebrate anything, and even then I couldn't enjoy because I was so racked with an unexplained guilt.
I don't think there is a magic number as when to start. It's different for everyone. It is an amazing feeling when you can start celebrating birthdays and holidays with no guilt. I hope it takes you less time than it took me.
