In the early to mid 80s, people in my congregation had a costume skating party. just about everybody went. People from neighboring Kingdom Halls accused them of imitating Halloween parties. I was too young to remember what became of the big brouhaha, but it was the one and only costume party we ever had.

Congregation Get-Togethers: In or Out?
by TreadClimberMaster ini was reading redpill2006's post and i noticed that some mentioned that get-togethers or parties have been largely discouraged.
i stopped attending meetings in 2003/2004 and i remember my congregation still had get-togethers, although they were few and far between.
they were not completely discouraged though, has this changed?

Sometimes I wonder is Morris is a suppressed homosexual. He seems so obsessed with tight pants, what homosexuals wear, and worrying about men dressing as "metrosexuals".
"The lady doth protest too much, me thinks."

LEAK: 3000 buildings to liquidate. How to choose? (Watchtower propaganda video)
by Fay Dehr inhttps://youtu.be/pzdxen9rvw0.
as the leaked financial meetings show, watchtower (by it's own admission) has to liquidate 3000+ properties quickly.
how do they choose?

Each time an empty seat is filled because a congregation is merged, relocated, or publishers are moved to a smaller congregation, it is like giving a contribution to the World Wide Work, so that funds can used for their greatest need.
Like legal bills and settling abuse lawsuits.

What are the JWs saying about Trump?
by Wild_Thing inas much as jws say they are neutral, they can't help but discuss politics and label them as either bad or good and somehow connect it back to their dogma.
i remember hearing them discuss it all the time when i was a jw.
i can't help but wonder what the r&f are saying about trump and the many, many controversial events surrounding him.

Funny you should ask. Last week a JW called me at work to chat. He actually said they thought Trump was going to be the one to bring on the end, but that everything is going great.
That is exactly what I thought most of them would say. Thanks for the verification. Everything is about them and the end of the world.

Time to remind JWs of this famous quote from CT Russell!
by stuckinarut2 inwith the ever present issue of the society seeming to run out of money, and constantly asking the flock for more donations, maybe it is time to revive this quote!.
the leaked financial dept videos that have done the rounds, clearly show the society is in desperate trouble financially.. so, where is the "almighty's hand"?
where is his ability to provide funds?

Yeah I think JWs would just jump on the chance to claim that prophecy is being fulfilled with that quote. They have stopped publishing the magazines like they use to, and publishing everything electronically is cheap.

Bill Nye vs Ken Ham debate
by Whynot indid anyone else watch the bill nye versus ken ham debate?
it happened february 4, 2014 and just watched it a few months ago.
i thought it was interesting but must confess that i felt extremely embarrassed for ken ham.

You think Bill Nye was in league with Ken Ham to promote the creationist museum???
No, not all. I think Ham used Bill Nye to promote his creationist museum. And I think Bill Nye agreed to it for his own monetary gains.

I love Bill Nye. I always have. But I felt like he sold out when he agreed to do that debate. It felt like it was just a publicity stunt to promote Ham's new "museum".

Could the ancient Jews eat pig fractions?
by JeffT inthe recent threads on blood fractions got me to thinking about ways to expose the absurdity of the watchtower's position on blood.
so i thought of the titular question.
would a hebrew have understood the prohibition on pork as meaning he had to avoid "major" pig fractions (ham, bacon, ribs) but "minor" pig fractions like pickled feet and fried pork rinds were ok?

The Watchtower has a long history of not accepting many science concepts. They use to preach that receiving an organ transplant was the same as cannibalism. To me, that isn't much different than their stance on blood transfusions being the same as eating (or digesting) blood.
They let go of their ridiculous stance against organ transplants in 1980, but for some reason, they are having a difficult time seeing the error of their ways with blood transfusions.
The AJWRB website has a great page that showcases the Watchtower's silliest science and medicine claims in their earlier literature. http://ajwrb.org/the-watchtower-on-science-and-medicine

Primary school teacher tried invading temple of Jehovah's Witnesses when 'eight out of ten' drunk, hearing hears
Samantha Beresford Credit: Wales News ServiceA primary school teacher tried to invade a hall full of Jehovah's Witnesses after getting "eight out of ten" drunk at an end-of-term staff party, a hearing heard.
Samantha Beresford, 51, was out with colleagues when she got into an argument with worshippers outside the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses in Swansea.
The teacher swore at members of the temple as she attempted to confront her sister-in-law - who she believed was inside - over her views on homosexuality.
Beresford refused to leave the premises and grabbed one worshipper by the neck which caused a bleed.
The incident, back in July 2016, led to a criminal conviction of assault by beating, but she has now also been stripped of her teaching qualification after the Cardiff Fitness to Practice panel deemed her unsuitable for the profession.
Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses where the teacher attacked a man Credit: Wales News ServiceWitnesses said Beresford was heard by witnesses shouting obscenities, making sexual references and swearing at Jehovah's Witnesses.
She was seen making a lewd gesture on the steps outside Kingdom Hall were an altercation took place.
Case presenter Cadi Dewi said: "Samantha Beresford attempted to enter a Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses whilst intoxicated following celebratory drinks at the end of the school term.
"There was an altercation with a member of the congregation outside the hall when she refused to leave the premises."
The teacher had been working at 500-pupil Townhill Community School in Swansea and told police she had been "eight out of ten" drunk.
Church member Gavin Young said: "She was shouting when she walked up the path towards me and she was making references to her relative and making references to her religious views on homosexuality.
"She wanted to walk past me through the open door so I grabbed her wrists and she grabbed me by the neck and held on to my throat for five seconds which resulted in a bleed."
Beresford, of Sketty, Swansea, was convicted of assault by beating at Swansea Magistrates' Court in 2016.
The teacher, who worked at the school since 1991 and was "well thought of," was fined £600 and ordered to pay £50 in compensation.
In a statement Beresford said: "Against my better judgement I walked towards the hall, shouting expletives believing my relative to be inside. I had more to drink than usual and was tired after a busy term.
"I deeply regret my actions which led to my arrest and caused great distress to my family. The incident continues to have a devastating effect.
"I let myself, my family, my friends, and school down badly and I am ashamed and embarrassed. It's something I will regret until the day I die."
The Cardiff Fitness to Practice panel chairman Jacqueline Turnbull said Mrs Beresford had not demonstrated a "significant level of insight" into her behaviour.
She was suspended from teaching for six months - and will have to reapply to join the teacher's register
