  I don't think Russell and Rutherford can even be compared. Rutherford seems to have had some deep seated mental issues, especially after WWI. When somebody builds (or causes to have built) a fancy mansion for themselves and claims that he's just house sitting until the "princes" arrive, even the most strict Watchtower adherent would question their mental stability. The indication that he seemingly alienated his wife and son is also very telling.

  Russell may have been disillusioned, but Rutherford was a full blown kook.

  This, of course, is not based on hard research.

  JW Elder quits & sends 900 emails

  an elder in quebec, has just quit as a jw.

  he did so by emailing nearly a thousand jw’s with the explanation for why he and his family are quitting.. i have spoke to him quite a bit, interesting guy.

  he’s quite the loss to wt, he’s an elder with a serious career in chemistry, a professor no less.. catch his story here, apologies if this has already been posted;.

  Honestly, I don't see how educated people can still buy into the bullshit.

  Jehovah's Witnesses will continue to be most uneducated religious group because the educated ones leave. Once you get those critical thinking juices flowing, it's hard to stop them.

  i love gospel music.

  i don't feel like i need to believe in "jebus" to appreciate the music.

  i can't go into a gospel church because i might just get religion again - that or i'll be grabbing the mic on be on the stage waving my hands and praising the lord.. i particularly like dylan's gospel period.

  Congregation Get-Togethers: In or Out?

  i was reading redpill2006's post and i noticed that some mentioned that get-togethers or parties have been largely discouraged.

  i stopped attending meetings in 2003/2004 and i remember my congregation still had get-togethers, although they were few and far between.

  they were not completely discouraged though, has this changed?

  In the early to mid 80s, people in my congregation had a costume skating party. just about everybody went. People from neighboring Kingdom Halls accused them of imitating Halloween parties. I was too young to remember what became of the big brouhaha, but it was the one and only costume party we ever had.

  Each time an empty seat is filled because a congregation is merged, relocated, or publishers are moved to a smaller congregation, it is like giving a contribution to the World Wide Work, so that funds can used for their greatest need.

  Like legal bills and settling abuse lawsuits.

  i remember hearing them discuss it all the time when i was a jw.

  i can't help but wonder what the r&f are saying about trump and the many, many controversial events surrounding him.

  Funny you should ask. Last week a JW called me at work to chat. He actually said they thought Trump was going to be the one to bring on the end, but that everything is going great.

  That is exactly what I thought most of them would say. Thanks for the verification. Everything is about them and the end of the world.

  the leaked financial dept videos that have done the rounds, clearly show the society is in desperate trouble financially.. so, where is the "almighty's hand"?

  Yeah I think JWs would just jump on the chance to claim that prophecy is being fulfilled with that quote. They have stopped publishing the magazines like they use to, and publishing everything electronically is cheap.
