Learning not to be judgemental
by eljefe inthe other day i realized that i am having trouble learning not to be judgemental.
as a witnesses i was always looking at others and judging them.
now, this is the most difficult thing to quit doing.

Yes ... I still have trouble judging elders as anything but complete idiots!
Seriously though ... I think the biggest challenge when leaving the Witnesses is learning not to be so judgemental of yourself.

What's your basic attitude?
by seattleniceguy ini think that if i had to describe my basic attitude toward life, the universe, and everything in one sentence, it would be this:.
generally, and on reflection, life is better today than it was yesterday.. very anti-thetical to the wt view of things, i know.

When I left the witnesses, I had a hard time letting go of the fear of destruction that my family was so determined to sentence me to. I finally got past it and this became my mantra:

"Where scriptural matters are not involved"
by Wild_Thing inwhen i was reading that article on "beware of the voice of strangers" (sept 1, 2004 wt) i couldn't help but notice the last few paragraphs of the preceding article.
in the last paragraph, it says:.
"although our views on matters where scriptural principles are not involved may vary somewhat, in matters of worship, we act in complete unison.".

This doesn't make sense to me. From what I remember when I was a JW, spriritual principles were to be considered in EVERYTHING! So, when exactly would they allow their views to vary? I don't get it! The claim that they allow views to vary at all really throws me! My whole family is still in the thick of it and I don't see that at all!

What's your most annoying phrase?
by ozziepost inyou know those people who pepper their conversations with phrases that were fashionable once but now - it's just plain annoying!.
probably the phrases travel the world.
"at the end of the day".

A new one that I hear kids say ... and I still don't get it ... "My bad!" What in the world does that mean? I understand the context that they use it in, but it still makes no sense.
Other ones I hate that I grew up with:
- You can take the girl out of Texas, but you can't take Texas out of the girl! <makes me cringe>
- Let's get out of this fire trap! (fire is pronounced 'far' when you say it)

The only thing worse than being a Jehovah's Witness is having family members that are! Mine are driving me crazy too, just coming back from the district convention. For three years, I have been trying to grow thick skin, so to speak, to be able to deal with their belittling, insulting conversations. It has gotten better, but there are times (like now) when they are in rare form!
Hang in there! I think it is just the season - summer convention time! Ugh! It'll be over soon!
