I was homeschooled for grades 4-6 and then my entire high school. My parents jumped on the home school wagon when it first became so popular for witnesses (and legal).

I will grovel on my knees if you promise not to homeschool the kid! (I know you already said you will not, but in case you change your mind ... my knees are ready!) I missed out on soooo much! The only good thing that came out of it was that I finished when I was 16 and was able to start college. (Long story as to how I was able to do that!) I was so isolated from people who were different from me (non JW), but even if you are not JW, I think it is isolating.

Public schools also have activities and programs that kids can get involved in, especially at the Junior High and High School level that home schooled kids will never get a chance to experience. Homeschooling is also a strain on the family, and it takes a lot of discipline to follow through. My older sister was homeschooled along with me and she never did finish, and I know more than a handful of witnesses who also never finished.

I know this was all experienced while being a witness, but so much of it is still true no matter what. Unless the public school is unfit or dangerous, please don't homeschool your kids!

my son is in a school for smart kids.

they call it "challenge".

he is in 2nd grade, just turned 8 last month.

I am a teacher, and I have to side with the kid's teacher. I do the exact same thing. I have told them what my expectations are, though. I also mark off for capitalization and forming the letters wrong (they have to write them in cursive.) It may seem nit-picky, but some kids have a hard time remembering that some words should be capitalized all the time, and some words are never capitalized except at the beginning of a sentence (or in titles). Maybe you should make sure that the teacher is letting the kids know what the expectations are for the spelling tests. If not, then THAT is not fair.

Who Does Jehovah Resemble?

as a small boy, i pictured jehovah as resembling finlay currie, the kindly old boy who played roles in solomon & sheba and the 10 commandments.. .

later on, probably thanks to paul hogans influence, i started to picture jehovah as resembling charlton heston.. .

i still picture him as a bearded gentleman, wearing a dressing gown and sandals, surrounded by billowing clouds.. then again if i think of the creator, or lord, he doesn't seem to be the same entity as jehovah.. strange, isn't it?.

politically correct, it isn't----but do you think there's any validity to "stereotyping" people or backgrounds??

Yes, it's wrong, but it makes for great comedy material! Most stereotypes have some element of truth in it, but it unfair to take it seriously and apply it to everyone.

You can reason your way around all day and you'll still be the first one voted off the island. Whereas the one who can inspire the masses is the one sitting with the immunity necklace.

This is so true. That is why politicians run the world and not smart people! My favorite saying since leaving the org is "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups." This applies to the world in general, though I always liked to apply to the JW file and rank.

Reality blows big chunks. Be drunken, mortals, be drunken on your dreams.

Unfortunately dreams do not pay the mortgage ... reality does! I do save my dreaming for when I am drunk, though!

Has anyone ever heard of the theory of multiple intelligences? Basically, it says that anyone can learn anything if taught the way that they learn best. You learn best based on your strongest type of intelligence. What type are you?

	Linguistic intelligence ("word smart"):
	Logical-mathematical intelligence ("number/reasoning smart")
	Spatial intelligence ("picture smart")
	Bodily-Kinesthetic intelligence ("body smart")
	Musical intelligence ("music smart")
	Interpersonal intelligence ("people smart")
	Intrapersonal intelligence ("self smart")
	Naturalist intelligence ("nature smart")

You can take certain types of quizzes to find out where your strength lies. I always came out very strong in the logical area ... second was linguistic. It can also help people find out at what type they would be most successful.
