Something terrible has just happened

the neighbor child came over to play with my youngest child.

i think she's about 4 maybe 5. well anyway there was some strawberries out on the counter and she asked if she could have one and i said no.

when i looked over later i saw her sneak one.

Tsarnaev guilty - should he get death or not?

i think he probably will (it is the us after all) but i hope he doesn't.

he caused incredible pain and suffering to men, women and children who had never done anything to him.

many died in unimaginable agony, others are disabled for life.

I know he "deserves" the death penalty, but there is a big part of me that still has a problem with capital punishment. It seems so unevolved for us to say, "You killed us, so we are going to kill you." It seems so opposite of what we teach kids about "two wrongs don't make a right".

This is a topic that I constantly struggle with. Part of me celebrates and says, "Yeah! Kill the bastard!" But then there's the other part of me that says, "Wait ... that's not right, either."

I think the lines between punishment and revenge often get blurred in cases of mass murder.

_Morpheus, as a teacher in the United States for many years now... you are the one that is incorrect. Students apply for and receive scholarships very early. Not all scholarships come from universities either, but even universities start searching for talent early.

We have had high school students as young as 9th grade do so well at the science fair that they received a scholarship. Universities and business corporations often sponsor these events to search out talent they can woo to their university or company. Also, not all scholarships are large amounts or full ride scholarships.

There is also the Duke Talent Search that starts as early as 4th grade, but the famous "test" is given in 7th. I don't believe that Duke University grants scholarships through this program, but it definitely puts kids on the right track to possibly receive scholarships early in their educational career.

If anyone has kids, I highly recommend starting the scholarship search early. It is worth the effort of filling out a gazillion applications. You don't even have to be that academically gifted. Even average kids can garner quite a few small scholarships sometimes.

Also, he doesn't actually say he was offered a scholarship. He just asks the question, "Would I accept a scholarship?" and then blah blah blah I left school and started pioneering.

Most witnesses would assume that means he was offered one, but I think it is just another example of deceptive story telling.

I graduated high school when I was 15. I began college at 16. It happens.

Also, in the U.S. right now, many high school students start applying for and receiving scholarships as young as 9th grade, so that isn't necessary untruthful, either.

Still, it's doubtful his entire account is 100% accurate. They are salesmen for their WT corporation, and salesmen lie.

HELP - A Guide to Fade

hey everybody, been here lurking for years now... i tired of all the gb 2.0 shit and need to fade successfullydo we have a guide, i am very tempted to go out with a bang, but i want my wife with me, she aint a strong witness and would happily trust me ... i love her a lot.

I originally posted this list on my 10 year anniversary of being out of the organization. I still think it is pretty good advice, so here it is again. I would love to make it a Top Ten List, but alas, I have only eight:

* "Courage doesn't always roar" - Don't let anyone make you think you need to leave in some glorious, dramatic way. Sometimes the drama is unavoidable, but if you can avoid it, there is nothing wrong with leaving slowly and quietly. And there is no shame in closing your blinds and hiding in your bedroom until the elders leave your doorstep! :smile:

* You don't have to try everything you were never allowed to do. If seems to me that those of us that were raised as a witness were like a spring being held down by a tight thumb. When we leave, the thumb comes off and the spring flies in every direction because ... it can! Release the spring slowly and don't try everything at one. And some things ... don't try at all!

* You can't save your family. They have to save themselves. The more you try to convince them they are wrong, the more that their paranoia is fed about you being an evil apostate being controlled by Satan. You have to accept them being "in", if you have any hope of them accepting you for being "out". They will leave when they're ready ... and no, they may not ever be ready.

* You will fear God, you will hate God, you will believe there is no God. Don't rush trying to figure it out. Many times, I have shelved the issue and just tried to enjoy living! In time, you will come to terms with what you want to believe or not believe. It is OKAY to sleep in on Saturday AND Sunday. Enjoy it!

* Stay away from religions for awhile. If any of the others get a whiff that you want to leave, they will try to "save you" and before you know it, you will be involved in another witness-like religion and not even realize it.

* You will probably become completely consumed with the "ex-JW' world". It will help you! You will find out the history of the Watchtower and research things you were never allowed before. You will meet people in the same boat as you who will bring you back from the edge. My warning is ... don't let it define you. At some point ... move on. It doesn't mean you can't come back and visit and I don't think it means you have to lose contact with people (like I did), but being constantly consumed with ex-JW forums and only having ex-JW friends is not healthy.

* If you ever choose to attend an apostafest ,,, they are great! But there will be at least one crazy person there that will act so bizarre that you will wonder why you ever left the witnesses. Don't let them rattle them! They were crazy in the "troof", they will be crazy out.

* It will get better! There were many times I truly felt suicidal. But 10 years from now, you will be a completely different person and will not even recognize who you are today. You will wonder why in the world you ever felt so afraid of a group of weeny little men in suits and ties!

Paint Nite - fun evening and a new hobby

we (and by 'we', i mean my wife) decided that we should try something new and she, erm, i mean 'we', liked the idea of painting.

so i enthusiastically (i.e.

begrudgingly) went along for the night to the "pain nite" event she'd booked us for a couple of weeks ago.. the premise is pretty simple: it's held in a pub or restaurant, all the art supplies are provided, the instructor then walks you through how to reproduce a painting they have chosen for the night and you have a glass of wine or beer, do some painting, have something to eat, have some more wine, more painting, more wine, realize you are drinking the dirty paint water and so on.. here's the site: https://www.paintnite.com/.

Where Does Jehovah Live?

The yellow book was My Book of Bible Stories. That was really the first book I was brought up on. I don't remember exactly how old I was when the red paradise book came out, but I was between 5 and 10.

The picture of Jezebel in the Bible Stories book was the one that always terrified me the most. I'm not sure why.

No apologies needed! I thought that was a great first time rant! The first of many, I hope!

And yeah, it is pretty amazing when you realize everyone around you doesn't question anything. It kind of seems a little "stepford" like, at first. But really it makes sense when you think about it.

If all their members questioned what they were told, they wouldn't have any members. I guess that's why some people call them a cult.
