I couldn't tolerate the cultural aspects of JWs that I grew up with. Their stance against education, the shunning of non-members, the belittling of women, and the mishandling of physical and sexual abuse within families in the congregations was enough for me to abandon ship. I observed all of these things first hand or experienced them myself. It was later after I left that I decided to do research and determined it was just another religion.

Yes, the father and son Russell duo (Joseph and Charles) married the two Ackley sisters (Emma and Maria). That meant Emma was CTR's sister-in-law AND step-mother.
Even more interesting ... the dad married the youngest Ackley sister. Joseph was 66/67 years old when he married 25ish year old Emma Ackley, making him more than 40 years her senior. Charles actually married the sister was two years his elder. 27 year old Charles married 29 year old Maria Ackley.

Why are there more sisters than brothers at the Kingdom Hauls?
by Sour Grapes ini have always wondered why there are more females than males in all of the congregations that i have visited?
some of these females are in their 70's so maybe their husbands have died and women just live longer.
or could the reason be that years ago men were the breadwinners and women stayed home to raise the children thus they were home during the week when the jdubs came a knocking?

I thought it was because the male animal has no season in which he is not willing to engage in the breeding act.

Lloyd Evans' New Book - Is It Really Necessary?
by pale.emperor inso lloyd evans will shortly be releasing his new book how to leave the jehovah's witnesses.
i do enjoy his rebuttals and the stuff he manages to get hold of and leak.
but i'm struggling to understand what he could possibly write to merit a whole book.. all info on how to leave is right here on this forum.

I think if he wants to write a second or third book, more power to him. It won't be for everybody. Personally, I like to watch his YouTube commentaries, and I appreciate anybody who is willing to publicly speak out against the wrong doings within the org. It takes a lot of time and money to do all that. It doesn't bother me one bit if he profits from it through books or videos or whatever. I am sure there are some who find his books useful, so I wish him success.

Prince had enough fentanyl in his system to kill a horse or two
by Wild_Thing inhow can someone purposely take that much fentanyl and it still be considered an "accidental overdose"?
i understand that they call it that because they don't think he was purposely trying to kill himself, but that would be like someone firing a fully loaded gun at their head and saying they were playing russian roulette.. his blood had 67.8 micrograms per liter.
deaths have been documented in people with blood levels ranging from three to 58 micrograms per liter.

Or three! How can someone purposely take that much fentanyl and it still be considered an "accidental overdose"? I understand that they call it that because they don't think he was purposely trying to kill himself, but that would be like someone firing a fully loaded gun at their head and saying they were playing Russian roulette.
His blood had 67.8 micrograms per liter. Deaths have been documented in people with blood levels ranging from three to 58 micrograms per liter. He has set a new record.
Levels of fentanyl in his liver was 450 micrograms per kilogram. A level greater than 69 is considered a fatal toxicity. Again ... wow.
It is really sad. I really did think he was a musical genius. I wonder if he got hooked on this stuff before or after becoming a JW. It seems like that much in your system would impair your thinking ability. I would love to know if he had a clear head when he was dunked.

Forgot to put in links:
Here is the link for the Russell divorce transcripts. Use the search feature to search for "Cedar" and you'll find it. http://jwdivorces.bravehost.com/decisions/ctrdivorce.html
Here is the link for the old directories where I grabbed the screen shots: http://digital.library.pitt.edu/collection/historic-pittsburgh-city-directories

First, you have to understand that the numbering system changed, so 79 Cedar Ave. became 1004 Cedar Ave. and 80 became 1006. Here is a transcript from the Russell divorce where Maria explains. It is from 1907, but the time period she speaks of is in the late 1800s through early 1900s.
There is other evidence of C.T. and his father, Joseph (and also Emma, Joseph's wife/Maria's sister) all living at those addresses in census records and other historic documents from that time period. It is definitely not CT Russell's boyhood home, but he and his father did own them and they both lived there at various times as married adults. In fact, I believe CT's father, Joseph, died in the 1006 side, but I can't put my fingers on the documentation at the moment.
Here is one screen grab from the 1879 Directory of Pittsburgh and Allegheny, where Joseph and Charles are listed as living in the same place on Cedar. (Obviously, the F is a typo). I can't any reference to a 79 Cedar Street, so I am wondering if they considered both sides the same address back then.
From the 1881 Directory (After both were married):
From the 1882 Directory:
There is still more you can find on your own with enough digging. The house was definitely not build in 1900. I am not sure when it was built (it would be interesting to find out), but I believe the date listed on the real estate listing is either a typo, or just completely wrong.
CT Russell lived at many, many other addresses from what I have found, but I believe this was the one he was living in with Maria with they first married and started the Watch Tower.

Yes the street is sloped, but only slightly. You can see the slope better with the house right next to it in the picture. You can use Google maps to look around. Its prime real estate directly across the street from a beautiful park. I assume it was prime real estate when Russell owned it, too. The Russells were quite wealthy.
