Finland revuing JW Conscrition Exemption
by Slidin Fast inso, the ministry of defence is reviewing the legislation exempting jws from military service.
apparently active members service is deferred every 3 years as long as they remain active.. https://yle.fi/uutiset/osasto/news/defence_ministry_reconsiders_jehovahs_witnesses_military_exemption/10148627.
now it may be considered problematic, unconstitutional.

Thanks, Ernest. So did Otto Absentz get out of prison? If so, by his sentence expiring or by the Court of Appeal's decision? Do you know how long his sentence is/was?

SF,
Thanks for the post. The news article states that the reason for the review is that the exemption specifically for JWs was made before the present constitution came into effect. But someone had to notice the discrepancy between the old practice and the new constitution. Do you know if the the growing public profile of the org and their child abuse policies played any role in someone noticing the disparity?

Thank you, Dagney. That should settle the matter. He's on his way to the GB. They'll test him first to see whether he might rock the boat. If he wants the job, he'd better look very cooperative.

Thanks for these!
One statement in the consent form is intriguing:
"I consent to the use of my personal data so that I may participate in some religious activities in connection with my worship and so that I may receive spiritual support"
This seems to imply that a lack of signing will result in a lack "receiv[ing] spiritual support." What does that mean?

Sign JW Data Protection Form Or Else!
by AverageJoe1 inin spain (and the rest of europe), the "improved" data protection laws come into force on 25th may 2018. this is a good thing and sadly america is still lagging behind; not surprising with their current president!.
watchtower legal department are hot on the case and have instructed elders to hand out the new "release" forms out to all the publishers in their groups, whilst making it clear to them that they won't have any privileges if they refuse to do so!.
note these points in the instructions:.

Thanks for the info. This has potential to open up a real can of worms. For example, could one PIMO/POMO parent or "unbelieving spouse" object to the PIMI parent signing such a statement for the couple's minor children? Could this then be used in a legal custody battle? How would family court judges view all this? Might it lead to more rights for the child to make her or her own decision in this regard?
If the org can continue to use individual people's data after such people change their minds and rescind their permission, wouldn't this be grounds for a lawsuit? I see legal issues here...
I wonder too, given the level of "competency" of so many elders, just how qualified they would be to answer reluctant publishers' questions (the org's ill-thought-out instruction "have an elder explain..."). Wouldn't they often reason from their own level of thinking and experience and say things like, "Don't worry about it. We all signed" or "Don't you want to do what the faithful slave wants?"
Loved jp1692's comment in another thread on this topic:
Publisher: "What? I don't get to have any 'privileges'?"
Elder: "That's right."
Publisher: "Thank you, thank you, thank you!"

18 carefully follow the latest directions.. do we faithfully follow the latest directions that jehovah has given us?
if so, we will not rely on always doing things the way we have done them in the past.

My 2¢:
Maybe Sour Grapes is right about tithing officially starting. Or possibly the GB are preparing the R&F for the coming child abuse fiasco scandal. If the local elders and even the GB start to come under widespread/heavy media scrutiny or even criminal prosecution, the GB may be preparing the R&F for viewing all this as persecution, and this higher profile "trust us" hype would have its greatest application then.
