They could not totally do a 360 turn on the Blood nonsense, because they would face costly Litigation from families who had lost loved ones unnecessarily.
Well said!
the court of justice of the european union (cjeu) yesterday delivered the judgment (press release) on a request of the supreme court of latvia on whether domestic authorities are obliged to reimburse costs of cross-border medical treatment when the patient's decision to perform it in another european country was based on religious, not medical, grounds.
the opinion of advocate general (summarized here) is helpful in understanding the case.. the son of the applicant in the main proceedings had to have open heart surgery.
that operation was available in the latter’s member state of affiliation, latvia, but could not be carried out without a blood transfusion.
Thx Corney for the update.

jehovah’s witnesses to face trial for discrimination and incitement to hate.

"while jehovah’s witnesses have been the target of civil court cases before, this is the first time an entire congregation has ever been charged with a crime.".
Thanks for the post! This will be worth watching.
today, marking the second anniversary of the australian national apology to victims and survivors of institutional child sexual abuse, the prime minister of australia has announce in federal parliament the intention to place sanctions against the jehovah’s witnesses in relation to child sexual abuse.. quote from prime minister:.
the royal commission [into institutional response to child sexual abuse], the [national] apology [to victims and survivors of institutional child sexual abuse] and these yearly reports are about accountability: bringing the truth into the light ... we still have, reprehensibly, four institutions that have been named publicly and that have blatantly refused to join the redress scheme.
they are jehovah's witnesses ... it's not acceptable.
SBF first said:
Yes It’s puzzling why Watchtower didn’t ultimately join the compensation scheme to avoid sanction and reputation damage.
Yes, it seems puzzling. SBF then offered this reason why they won't join up:
Unless they simply can’t afford it. If not in this particular case in Australia, then as a general principle Watchtower has determined that they just don’t have the funds to compensate victims of abuse without effectively closing down the organisation in the process. So dragging heels, hunkering down, and accepting sanctions are their only options for attempting to keep the organisation afloat.
Surely financial reasons are often in play behind their many secretive decisions, but I have to wonder if perhaps more is involved here.
For example, would joining up with the redress scheme open them up to revealing their super-secret records to government authorities? If so, just like their not wanting to pay taxes in the USA back in the 1990s because that would have opened them up to government audits, is a similar principle at play here?
It's worth considering.
my husband insist that i talk to the elders.
it is something i 100% plan on doing for the simple fact of my relationship with him.
i know some of you may disagree but it seems like the best option for us.. problem/question: .
UP-6349,
As you yourself put it: "I have a strong feeling that anything CA and procedure regarding this will cause this to automatically crash and burn"
On the one hand you recognize that, but on the other, you seem to believe that you can somehow get through to them on this issue. You cannot. As soon as they get the slightest whiff that you are not toeing the party line IN ANY WAY, especially on the not-to-be questioned, or even discussed CSA matter, their defences will go up and they will not listen to the content of your questions, only that you have strayed into an area that you should not have. Their brains will only shout out them, "Danger, danger!" Next they will think, "Where did she get this? It's not been in any organizational publications." They will quickly conclude that you've been reading "apostate" material and begin warning you about that. You will set yourself up as a target in the cong. Is that what you want?
This is the only outcome. You can write the script in advance. Why put yourself through it? Find another way to deal with it.

types of cancer.i've been wondering for some time what the current gb has said about witness parents giving the green light, or red light, to having their kids vaccinated against hpv (the human papillomavirus) since it is a sexually transmitted disease.
it causes cervical and other types of cancer.
the recommended age for vaccination is 8-12 years old.
Thanks, road to nowhere and Corney. It's long amazed me how there are all sorts of policies the org has but you can't get the info in print. Surely lots of parents have asked their local elders what to do in this situation. Rather as an elder you have to contact your CO or call HQ for the scoop. More than ever, I firmly believe that this sort of thing is designed to make you constantly dependent on the org, as well as make you feel important that such "spiritual nuggets" of unpublished policy are a privilege to know... Ho hum.
Yeah, and all they do is above-board—right!

You have to wonder whether, if there are some government restrictions put on them for not joining up, this will then be viewed as persecution!

A practicing pediatrician who is also some kind of conservative Protestant wrote the following. He brings up the point that parents need to give consideration to their child's future marriage mate who, say, prior to conversion, may have had an active sexual history and thus pass on the virus to the uninfected mate.
He does not bring up other issues such as rape by an infected perpetrator or a Christian youth, or unfaithful mate, going wayward but later returning to the fold, something that we all know happens frequently in Witnessland.
Given these and other considerations that I'm probably not thinking of, does anyone know what the GB has dictated on this matter? Surely it must have come up by now. I searched the topic on this site before making this post. The vaccine has been discussed in a few posts, mainly going back years, but no one has stated the org's policy/view.
the independent inquiry into child sexual abuse (iicsa) will hold additional virtual public hearings in the child protection in religious organisations and settings investigation next week.. the timetable was released today: https://www.iicsa.org.uk/key-documents/20825/view/virtual-cpiros-timetable-week-3-10-august-2020.pdf .
