  california senator jerry hill's bill, sb 360, passed the public safety committee at the capitol building in sacramento, california, this morning without opposition.

  out of eight senators in the committee, three senators excused themselves, and five voted for the bill.

  "or even what they are charging him with"—are you kidding? If he's disagreed with the org over anything, then, duhhh, the charge is apostasy. Is that so hard to figure out? Furthermore, does it matter that he's uninformed by them? We know how they operate, right? Is this supposed to be shocking now or what?

  my younger brother, the one who sued the wts, had his girls kidnapped parentally by their mother.

  it took several years to get them back, and they're finally back with him and safe, and recovering from all of the trauma.

  i was working on this case nonstop for a very long time.. now, unfortunately i have a custody case my very own.

  a study of religious retention rates–that is, what percentage of people raised in a particular church or religion stay with it when they are grown–is quite interesting.

  From experience I think that the Witness retention rate is far below 37%. I remember one CO saying in the late 1980s that it was more like 10%. Perhaps more are staying in now?

  As for the Mormons, I once told a prominent Mormon chap in Utah that an Evangelical man told me that about 50% of their youth stayed in the faith. The Mormon chap said, "50%—that would be wonderful!" The point is that he felt far less than 50% of raised-in LDS stayed.

  One must wonder about this data. Very likely a significant number in their data base were people who had left being active members of the faith but still identified with it when asked about their religion.

  This case is a good example of one judge finding that the clergy-penitant privilege outweighs laying all the cards on the table on a CSA case. As long as there is not unity within the US courts on this matter, and as long as some judges side with the WTS because of this legal principle, the WTS lawyers will continue to milk it for all it is worth. There is currently no standard on this issue in the US courts. What will eventually have to occur is that the higher courts (appellate and supreme courts) will have to decide on this matter, something that they do not appear eager to do.

  i have a funeral to attend for a non jw family member and the jdub family member reminded me that i should not wear black.

  for the life of me, i can't recall where this belief came from in jw teachings and i'm born in.

  is there something in print or is that just a personal opinion belief?
