  Any news on JWs in the Ukraine?

  the war in the ukraine has been going on for 2+ years now, yet very little has been put forth by the org on how the witnesses are doing there.

  especially of interest would be just how the org has implemented their relatively new 'alternative service is ok' policy in lieu of real military service in a place where warfare is actually occurring.

  yet nothing is forthcoming from the gb on this matter, or any other issues, really.. does anyone know what's been going on the regarding the witnesses there?.

  Thanks so much for these responses to my OP.

  Gorb, your link is especially appreciated. Its author Kostyantyn Berezhkosure looks like a Witness trying hard to not reveal that fact, or at least a heavy sympathizer. What in the world is "candidate of historical sciences"?

  But there is still no clue as to just what alternative service the GB has green-lighted for Witnesses who have chosen to stay in the Ukraine. The GB are very tight-lipped in-house about just what is going on there. It makes me wonder why. When Russia clamped down on the Witnesses there, the GB played it up, even sending high-raking organizational figures there, asking for letters from publishers. Why this opposite tactic here?

  New lawsuit against the Watchtower in Ontario, Canada

  the new class action lawsuit against the watchtower for having covered up child sexual abuse will begin in court on may 13-14-15, 2024 in the province of ontario, canada.

  it is not the same as in the province of quebec because the laws aren't the same.

  i don’t have more details.

  does he speak and not act, or promise and not fulfill?.

  when the god you worship pronounces judgement, is he, really just issuing a warning or has the matter been determined through all the godly powers of insight, foresight and perfect judgement?

  a westmoreland man was recently charged with sexually assaulting and molesting a young girl by a statewide grand jury that has been investigating sex abuse among elders in jehovah’s witness congregations across pennsylvania for years.. ronald w. mangone, 69, who was a member of the jehovah’s witness congregation in new kensington, allegedly abused the girl beginning at the age of 6 from 1991 to 1994, according to a police complaint filed april 2.. a second girl also was allegedly sexually abused by the suspect in the late 1980s, but law enforcement agents say they were unable to charge him because the statute of limitations had expired.. mr. mangone now faces three felony charges and five misdemeanor charges for sexually assaulting and endangering a minor.

  he is the latest suspect in a wide-ranging investigation that has so far led to the arrests of at least 14 others from jehovah’s witness congregations on similar charges since 2022.. “what's going on in pennsylvania has much much broader implications,” said mark o’donnell, a longtime advocate for sexual assault victims in the congregations and a witness who has appeared before the grand jury.. the sweeping investigation in pennsylvania, launched by the attorney general’s office in 2019, is the first to target jehovah’s witness groups in what has been described by some law enforcement agents as a longstanding problem within the religious organization... “it’s groundbreaking,” mr. o’donnell said.

  Wonderment, in answer to your OP:

  Doesn't AI just cull through all the info that's out there electronically? Who else would put something out there re: translation of WTS in-house pubs except the organization itself?

  Doubtless too, that's the case with the criticisms of the NWT since there are so many that have either appeared on the web to begin with or been entered into cyberspace from print media.

  Thx PetrW for the info on those two passages. I know nothing about Czech so cannot comment on what role that may play in the two instances you point out, but surely your statement "Translation from translation tends to degrade the quality of the text" is spot on. In practical terms the organization has little other choice if they want to maintain the control they have over all the R&F. Even the GB member(s) who did the 2013 English revision had no real knowledge of Hebrew and Greek, so the publishers who translated that English revision into other modern languages likely would not either. Once Fred Franz died, such knowledge up top died, and anyone lower down who might have such knowledge must still defer to the authority structure, even if such a person might see faults in translation, whether in in-house pubs or the NWT itself.
