Witnesses are limited to other witnesses as their mate. When I was in there was nobody around that I ever got along with or who I was attracted to. That was always a source of frustration and then resentment as I was wasting away years of my life where I was in my "prime". If I had met someone outside the organization at the time, I might have rationalized it that, "she seems receptive about the witnesses, if something happens where we get married I'm sure I can convince her that it's the right religion." When it comes down to it though, if it gets to the stage of marraige, I personally think that he is justifying the relationship for sex.

It's all about the overall attraction. If I liked someone, it wouldn't bother me a bit if she was completely flat chested.

JW's are they really a cult?
by Evanescence inmany people would say they are a cult, what are your reasons for thinking they are a cult?.
a created a thread a while ago on an idea of what a cult is http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/96309/1.ashx.
do you think it is the jehovah's witnesses as a whole a cult?

Back when I was in, I remember seeing a list of what defines a cult. I read down the list of a dozen things and all but about two of them exactly described the witnesses. Of course at the time I didn't pay too much attention to it because I knew the reasoning or excuse behind everyone of them. I wish I still had that list.

how long did it take?
by mjs mouse, ben innewbie here, a lil about me......grew up around the jw religion, never was baptized but i did get to the level of "unbaptized publisher" once, as of now i dont attend any "meetings", but still get the watchtowers and awakes pushed to me by family members.
it's actually been 3 years since i realized that it wasnt the "truth", even though i've probably have known it all along.
my question to the groups is, how long did it take you to stop calling it "the truth"?

I never called it that not because I didn't believe it, but because I thought it sounded stupid. I'm picky about some words. The only other one that I never used that I can think of right now was "lofty".

I don't regularly read anything by the WBTS, but when I do it is now fun to highlight all the manipulative and flawed logic that I see in there. "Bob, being noble minded, found the Watchtower to be blah.... blah....blah.....". "Some scientist say that....." "Some"? Who are they? What are their credentials?

How did you come to JWD ?
by oldflame ini came to jwd back in 2001, i was under a different name then.
i do not remember if i was introduced by gumby who is a dear friend of mine or if i had found this site through freeminds.org i was when i first came here pretty bitter as i went through pure hell with the jw faith and my family who are jw.. i was ready for a fight, and ready to rip anyones head off if they crossed me wrong.
i was bitter at the religion for almost fooling me twice as i was a mormon in my teenage years.

When I first got my computer a little over two years ago I think I found this site and only barely checked it out. I bookmarked the site a few weeks ago when Fark had a link to the site and I signed up and started posting very soon after that.
I am no longer a religious person at all. I no longer believe the bible at all. I do read a lot of the topics here that do deal with those topics for old times sake though.
