A Death in Yellowstone
by Preston inmy mom called me while i was at work today and told me that two people from my old congregation died in september.
i guess it was "national" news but it flew over my head.
drew and brent speedie were jehovah's witnesses that went to my old congregation and although they weren't "popular" or well known, i got to know them pretty well.

Absolutley! I love Christmas and Thanksgiving. Christmas used to amaze me when I was a little boy (walking thru the mall was quite an experience when your 5 and its Christmas. So now days I am that little boy again on christmas, complete with a train going around the tree lights all over the house and christmas movies and music. My ex-girlfriend used to think I was so crazy, but she did not mind. She got what I missed out on. I missed out so much I'm making up for it now, and love every minute of it. J

If raised JW - or in while young - how strict were your parents?
by Jamelle ini'm just curious to know where my parents register on the scale of strictness...
growing up, i felt absolutely smothered by my parents (mostly my mother).
the things i couldn't do were above and beyond the limitations put on the other young people in our hall.

I guess my parents were not that strict. Me and my younger brother where more fortunate than our older brother and sister though, my dad used to be an elder than, (there around ten years older than us) I guess my parents mellowed out in time. They were divorced when I was 7 and my dad was disfellowshipped for awhile, so I got alot of leeway there. I could not join little league or any other type of sports, but I could play with kids from school or my neighborhood, and have them over the house or go over theres, no problem. Couldn't watch any R rated movies, but the print version was quite allright (still don't get that). Watched whatever on television. With my mom I was always screwing off and would hardly ever go out in FS and was always missing meetings. With my dad I would never miss anything, but from time to time he would take a sunday off and take us to a museum or something. Played with water guns (no gi-joe toys though), I guess pretty slack I guess but I can never get back the things I did miss.
Edit: Please note though that I got out of the dubs when I was about 12-13 so thankfully I had a semi-normal teenage life, with worldy friends and girlfriends and all the normal teenage things that go along. -

Researchers slow light to 245 meters/second
by seattleniceguy in...at room temperature!.
the advance could remove a major bottleneck at fiberoptic routers, where light must be converted to an electrical signal and then back to light, which is costly and time-consuming.
if incoming signal speeds could be modulated, routers could avoid this optical-electrical-optical swtich and dramatically increase throughput.. http://www.physorg.com/news6951.html.

Limping on two opinions - mine and theirs!
by atypical ini have been lurking at these sites for a while and have finally decided to post.
forgive me for not wanting to give any clues as to my identity, but i am still struggling as a fence-sitter - knowing how i feel but not wanting to be cut off from my family and friends.
so my meeting attendance is sporadic; when i go to the meetings i am told "i'm worried about you" or "where have you been, your wife has been coming by herself".
