Excellent points Moggy Lover, but you failed to mention Acts 22 where Paul had a supernatural experience. Was it physical or spiritual in some way?
Well he says he was "physically blinded" by the bright light. Also when he returned to Jerusalem he "saw" the Lord again but states he was in a trance thus showing he could recognize what was physical and what was spiritual.
These accounts may all be pure fiction, but if not I find the physical events that occurred to be interesting.

I think you guys are on track with the WTS getting more mainstream. I saw it on the organization level when I questioned them about the UN involvement and they told me that the UN is doing a good work in the world. Many new articles are favorable towards the worlds efforts to make the world a better place.
I see it on a personal level in the way modern JWs carry on their lives. They watch the same shows and movies, get drunk, drink and drive, commit adultery, seek riches, go to college,have political opinions, express national loyalties, swear, flirt, etc, etc,etc.
I think it is good that they are just like everybody else, (except for DWI and adultery). I'm just waitng for them to admit it.
On globalization, the WTS is actually ahead of the world. They have, for a long time, given less importance to national borders and more to their people. Corporations are now doing the same and the world will follow.
in 1938 the watchtower society published the book "crusade against christianity" in german.
it was published in french the next year.
apparently this is one of the few books authorized by the watchtower society which was never published in english.

No, for both men had long since died and were asleep in the dust awaiting a resurrection. (Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10; Hebrews 11:35) Will they appear with Jesus when he comes in heavenly glory? No, because Moses and Elijah lived before the heavenly hope opened up to humans. They will be part of the earthly "resurrection of . . . the righteous." (Acts 24:15) So their appearance in the transfiguration vision is symbolic. Of what?
Here is another case where the WTS, in order to make sense of their doctrines, states that a passage is half literal and half symbolic.The cloud was real, Jesus was real but Moses and Elijah were fake, they were only "seen" and "heard" by the disciples.
The brightness of Jesus face and clothing was obviously due to the brightness of "the light".The bright cloud was a bright object in the sky.Moses and Elijah came from and went into this " bright cloud". The voice heard coming from the "bright cloud" was obviously transmitted thru some technology.This is the same bright light from heaven, (the sky), that Paul saw in Acts 22. All very supernatural in the first century.

I think we are afforded the luxury to ask questions like this because of the sacrifice previous generations made. We are also seperated from violence by a great distance and protected from harm due to our military might.
Please imagine you are living in an ancient city-state and a large horde of invaders were riding hard thru your gates. By the time you typed your post someone would have lopped off your head. Raped your wife and then murdered her and your kids.
Now if that is acceptable to you, and you still feel you would be a pacifist then I respect you as a man who would stick to his principles,though I don't share your principles.
If however you would fight in that situation to protect yourself and your family and neighbors, would you fight if you had a chance to meet the invaders a mile out?
How about 5 miles out? 50? 1,000? Would you go 5,000 miles to protect your neighbors? Or do you not consider people that far to be your neighbors.
My point is the only difference between fighting an army marching down your street and fighting one overseas is distance and what affect should distance have on the answer to your question.
I'm leaving out the issue of whether or not you agree politically with the conflict and am assuming we are talking about all conflicts including ones where you and your family will probably die or worse if you do not fight and win. I make this assumption to mete out the real issue of to fight or not.
I took a peaceful approach as a JW but now have returned to my previous position of I will fight to protect my family and neighbors no matter where they be. If I cannot personally fight I will support those who do. It was in fact an easy thing to do. I knew I would fight here at home and could not allow someone to harm my family and friends. From there it was easy to reason that distance should not affect that position.
I cannot regulate the wars my country fights except thru the democratic process. I am one man. If there is a God then it is his responsibility to manage those affairs if they displease him. I do believe the Bible states that the governments are serving as his ministers until he decides to take action so who am I to argue with the ministers of God.

i've often wondered about god's name 'jehovah' or 'yahweh', why is it that these are the only two acceptable translations of the tetragrammaton "yhwh" translated from the four hebrew consonants?
why is it that the society only implants the vowels that make the words 'jehovah' i.e(e,o and a) or 'yahweh' (a and e)?
surely the tetragrammaton can be pronounced several different ways with a mixture of different vowels.
I've seen the name Jahoober in several esteemed journals. Also Jeehover, Jeehoober and of course Yahoover which led to the developement of a very successful web browser.

many remarks seem to in indicate they have no redeeming believes......................i can't agree.. i appreciate lots a things about the way i was raised.. 1. pacifism, nonviolence.

The teachings I still agree with did not originate with the Watchtower nor are they unique to the Tower. The Bible, whatever you think of it, has alot of teachings that are not necessarily bad qualities to have. All churches based on the Bible share these teachings to some degree.
There is nothing I can think of that is strictly unique to the WT that I agree with now.
