  where i live in australia nice newer 3 bedroom brick houses go for $220,000 up.

  I'm in a suburb of Boston. I sold my parent's house in Westwood in 1979 for just under 100,000.00. Beautiful house on an acre 3 bedrooms 2 1/2 baths...top of the line everything. 2 fireplaces...amazing kitchen..... 2500 sq ft plus a basement with a fireplace and another 2500 sq ft that could have been finished (part above grade with full windows and private entrance)... Built like a fortress.... Been kicking myself all over the lot because today it's worth close to a 1,000,000.00. Hind sight is soooooo 20/20

  do you think a witness is more apt to leave the wts because:.

  1) ....of indisputable proof of the wts's falsehoods.. or.

  2) .....something that personally happened to them that caused a disenchantment w/ the organization.. thanks for you input!.

  For me it was divorcing my husband that started the process. It was a major upheaval in my life...and led me to evaluate everything in my life. I was still in good standing, but missing many meetings.... and I decided to examine the religion. I had lots of questions, accumulated over many years that I had tried to avoid. I finally gave myself permission to find the answers. The answers led me out.

  I agree with HS that xjws who don't do the research tend to have a tougher time freeing themselves from the watchtower belief system. I had an epiphay while I was on my way out... I was waiting to meet with my son's school counselor one morning in the lounge outside her office along with a few other parents. I was minding my own business, when suddenly on closed circuit tv came the "pledge of allegiance".... The other parents rose and started to recite it... I froze...half way out of my seat... My mind raced....should I salute it? can I salute it? Do I want to salute it? Is it wrong? Is it ok? OMG everyone is staring at me!!! What should I do? I realized in that moment that there were landminds planted in my psyche that were laying in wait... I had to sort fact from fiction and figure out what I thought about even the most basic subjects... The watchtower was all I had ever known to that point. I had a lot of catching up to do. The research allows you to move forward without watchtower tenticles holding you back.

  Self Proclaimed Doctors within the Dubs

  a previous post regarding herbal meds brings to mind two people, of course they're dubs, that swindled those in "da troof".

  back in the day, when my mother was first brainwashed and attended the edgecombe cong in harlem there were two teenagers, shirley and gladstone widdick, whose father was a jw but there mother was not (smart woman) they even relocated to queens around the same time we did in the early 1960's.

  many, many decades later, there seems to be some kind of buzz within the congregation that iridiologist (sp), i'll just call him the guy that looks in your eye and can diagnose every problem you've had since birth, is going to be in his hometown in new york and that he was "hangin' up the shingle" while he was here, needless to say this self-proclaimed dr/quack was dr. gladstone widdick and his book of appointments i'm sure was longer than the dr. that performed bill clinton's open heart surgery.. i believe he was/is located in the north carolina area, are somewhere in around there, any of you every had your eyes gazed into by this dr/quack ??.

  When I lived in Orlando, there was a circuit overseer who was into herbal medicine....and was recommending treatments to dubs. Later he left the circuit work and set up an office and was giving physical exams to gullible sisters and prescribing herbs and other treatments. He was arrested for practicing medicine without a license. It was on the local news....

  Getting the forum back on track

  recently we seem to have had a few different dramas and subsequent fallout on the fourm which i feel has detracted from its purpose.

  with this in mind we have decided that we need to bring the forum back on track and as such we will be clamping down on a lot of the aggressive / insulting posts which have begun to become the norm for a few people.

  we will also be clamping down on the paranoid assusation type of comments against newbies, if someone joins the fourm and you do not believe everything they post - so what, why do we need to hound them away with shouts of troll and fake etc, just ignore them if you dont beleive them.

  What type of person are you attracted to now?

  i was just thinking about this the other day, about how my ideas of a romantic partner have changed since being a jw.. growing up, i thought i would marry a very upstanding jw, we would pioneer together, do missionary work, have children, see the world.

  (never had any thoughts about bethel, though.

  ) so what it boiled down to was a stepford husband, up tight, not the least bit sexual, closed minded bore.. so now that i have grown up, seen the world, been married (and actually picked a good man the first time, although it didn't work out), i just contrast that with what i am attracted to now.. i like them open minded, earthy, i love artistic types because i am a published writer, hair doesn't matter to me (long/short, bald, etc), challenges convention, very sexual, still like a traveling man.. i am just curious if you anyone else can compare and contrast how their ideas have changed since breaking out the group-think of the jw organization..

  Let's see.... intelligent, warm, funny, kind, romantic in non-obvious ways...very sexy... understanding...supportive...

  and I already found him!....and it doesn't hurt that he's very handsome and an xjw to boot! Oh...and he's doing the dishes right now... I cooked...he cleans up... works for me!

  One of the new guys

  today is the first day i was able to come out and say something that was on my mind by just replying to some subjects on this forum.

  i see that its really a therapeutic way to get some of these things off my chest.

  i was dfd almost 10 years ago and i just now am starting to come out and play.

  Where's the strangest place you have left your cell phone?

  thursday nights i cook dinner next door for my aunt, my cousin and her three girls.

  so this past thursday, right after dinner, cognac called me on my cell phone.

  Thursday nights I cook dinner next door for my aunt, my cousin and her three girls. So this past Thursday, right after dinner, cognac called me on my cell phone. I was cleaning up, and getting ready to go back home. I was taking the extra veggies etc home as well as some other stuff...so everything went in a bag...including my second cell phone. I was kind of distracted because I was deep in conversation with cognac. I get home and put everything away, and didn't give it another thought.

  The next morning I'm getting myself organized and it occurs to me that my other cell is nowhere to be seen. ( I have 2 cell phones...1 for business, 1 personal) I hunt for it...go next door to my aunt's house...it's nowhere. So I call it (my usual method for locating it) It goes straight to voicemail. It finally dawns on me...and I look in the frig. There it is...hiding under the parsley! No wonder I never heard it ring... I doubt there's a signal inside the refrigerator!

  You did a beautiful job.... it's all about getting them to think. Sounds like you did that.

  I understand about the emotion part. I used to shake with emotion when trying to talk to a jw. I couldn't control it...it was overwhelming....I don't get that way anymore...thankfully...

  I went to one a couple of times a short time after I left the borg, while I was still searching. She wanted me to keep coming back for lots of sessions... wasn't right about anything she told me... I think it was all about the money with her. There may be genuine psychics out there... but that wasn't my experience.

  My best friend (an xjw) is into astrology (believes it is a science) tarot (has her cards read all the time, and read's them as well) psychic readings (has hers done regularly) raike (sp?) (she does raike and has it done to her) totem animals (hers is a swan) drumming (I have no idea what that's about, but she goes to classes once a month...and no, she's not learning so she can be in a band) aura photography (has hers done several times a year)

  I love her dearly, but I'm not really interested in that kind of thing. She used to try to get me to go to some of these things with her...but has stopped trying. She used to talk about it constantly...I mean part of every conversation...but I kinda' cured her of that....at least with me.

  I know enough about myself... I don't need them to tell me what I already know. I don't want to know my future....I'd rather create it and live it....
