JW's 'tattling' on each other - an ugly culture.
by Gregor inwhen i was an elder i often was approached by publishers who wanted to report some kind of bad conduct by a brother or sister.
this led to all kinds of unpleasant, unloving situations.
the first question of the accused was always "who told you this?

In one case I knew of, the elders told the tattler that they should have confronted the person about it first. But they still went ahead and df'd the "sinner".

I am ashamed to say that I ratted on somebody more than once. Each time it was the type of deal where someone else also knew and was going forward, so I was used as the second witness. I regret doing it very much now. It's an interesting setup, though. If I had lied and not admitted what I knew, but the "sinner" confessed, then the elders would have been able to get me for lying. The whole setup encourages paranoia and backstabbing, in my opinion.

Another Newbie
by FadingAway ini've been reading this forum for a while and i felt it was time to post my experience.
i am very comforted when i read others experiences and how similar they are to mine, i don't feel alone.. anyway, i learned the truth in 97, got baptized in 98. all of sudden i was getting prvileges, parts on the ca and dc and had friends that seemed to care about me and i cared for them.
eventually the love started to cool off, the meetings felt like watching reruns of a bland tv show.

Welcome to the board and thanks for sharing your experience. I am happy for you that your parents were understanding, and it sounds to me like your wife is taking it pretty well. I am in a similar situation, except that not only my wife but the rest of my family are active witnesses. Good luck to you and enjoy getting back into the martial arts. I have been seriously considering getting into that myself. Do you recommend any particular branch? From what I have read, I am interested in sho-do-kan karate (not sure about that spelling).

I personally have been trying to just fade away, because my wife and all of my family are active. I don't want the complications that being df'd would bring into our lives. It is very difficult though, so far it seems the witnesses want to force me either to sh*t or get off the pot, as the saying goes.

Desolation of Jerusalem
by Alwayshere inusing the wts's dates in the january 1.1965 page 29 : nabonidus= 17 years.
add 17 to 539=556, neriglissar==4 years, add 4 to 556=560, evil-marduk=2 years, add 2 to560=562, nebuchadnezzar=43 years, add 43 to 562 =605.
the bible at 2 kings 25: 8 and 9 says "in the 19th year of king nebuchadnezzar the servant of the king came to jerusallem and burned the house of jehovah.

Do you know where the first person you had sex with, lives now?
by free2beme ini was actually baptized in my early 20's, so i spent some time as a teen and early twenties doing things that were not witness-like.
one of those things was sex out of marriage and to be honest, i have no regrets.
i have wondered though sometimes, where is that person i shared such a landmark moment with in life.

Yep, she lives right here in our house. I married her.

What's Your Pet Peeve At The Meetings?
by Golf inovertime, overtime!
the thing that was a kill-joy for me was going overtime, just ask my wife and kids.
my entire day would be ruined.

I'll second that one, Danny. I got backstabbed more times in "spiritual paradise" than I care to remember.
