You are a smart ex-dub. Like someone else said, the cult mentality is at its best during confrontation. No matter how much sense you make, you will be made to fit into a preconceived idea about the so-called disastrous consequences of leaving the group. The only thing they have absolutely no weapon for is someone who leaves and prospers, while showing discretion and kindness to their old friends and family. Keep up the good work.

What kind of Ex-dub are you?
by MsMcDucket inright now, i can't figure it out.
i'm still scared to say anything to offend my daughters.
i don't want them to cut me off completely, so does that make me a weak ex-dub?

Reverse Shunning
by uwishufish inhas anyone ever upon being df'd or da forbade the jws from speaking to them?

explaining that if they so try you will seek an injunction!.

I like what Gary said about taking the world one person at a time. I don't want to lump the whole world into neat categories and stereotypes. Jws are the ones who do that(get it? get it?). I personally don't like lumping individuals into groups, and I try to have good manners. But like others said before me, I don't feel that I have to tolerate bad treatment from anyone. Whenever I run into local jws, I am friendly and polite while keeping the conversation short and avoiding any personal questions. If they make a show of ignoring or shunning me, I find it a little bit freeing to play dumb and tap them on the shoulder like they didn't realize I was there.

How do you answer this question??
by LuciousJ inok, i'm now da'd as many of you already know.
it's so fresh that my stomach turns everytime the subject comes up about religion.
however, something that does puzzle me a bit.......is how do you answer people when they ask you the question "what religion are you?

I would tell them, "It's against my religion to answer that."

Thanks so much for posting this. My jw family and friends have been dropping little tidbits about this campaign like it's so exciting. I'm glad to get to read it ahead of time so I have some answers ready for them.
Seriously, it's so weird to read the propaganda after having your eyes opened. They use such lame generalities; I can't believe I ever thought it made sense.

Is it possible to go to university and still come out a dub?
by Crumpet inthe reason i ask is that my best friend all the time i was growing up was a boy about 5 years older than i was.
his parents were at lot less strict than mine and as he was super brainy after he finished public school and sixth form he went off to one of the country's finest universities.
the only thing that bugs me now about this is that i know he was incredibly clever - how could he go to uni and still be a dub?

I read somewhere that the human brain is partitioned - that's why a person can be smart enough to build a nuclear bomb and at the same time believe it makes sense to strap it to himself for the sake of his religious beliefs as someone above me said. When you learn new things and ideas, your brain doesn't always force you to reconcile them with everything else that you have been taught to believe. It's like different books in the same library.
I agree that for many it takes a certain personal experience to highlight the conflict between reality and what we were taught as jws.

Q & A sessions
by KW13 indoes anyone remember the old q&a sessions in meetings?
where all the dubs would answer as many questions as they could in x amount time?.
looking back, i remember not only was it super boring, (everyone was quiet and you could hear a pin drop) but it made sure all the rank and file were well and truly brainwashed mum/stepdad/friends used to all get their head down, scribbling away and hoping that they'd do well.

It always showed the people up who didn't study or who missed a few meetings and forgot it was written review night (me). I was really good at taking tests in school, so I used to think it was funny when I would come to meeting without my review and obviously unstudied, get a copy from one of the attendants, finish it in about ten minutes and then go hang out outside until they started asking questions. At my hall everyone would totally compare scores after the meeting, especially the young people.

A Bad experience with JW is a permit for SIN?
by El Mariachi ini've been reading some sad experinces here... i dont see anyone talking about the bible... only how misserables the organization made their lives... ok ...so because of that...now i have permission to smoke marijuana and commit fornication?
this sounds pretty much like aa... and everybody having his/her personal "superior power" who is giving them the permit to do whatever they want...
i've been df for 4 years now and also dont agree with some jw teachings... why instead of blaming the wt for everything dont we look for the real truth in the bible and make things right.
