what is the purpose of the kingdom ministry?.
the 1995 october 15th watchtower stated that the parable of the sheep and the goats will be fulfilled some time after the great tribulation.. up till that time jws were led to believe they were engaged in a separating work in fulfilment of that sheep and goats parable.
but from 1995 on, the watchtowers increasing new light shifted the emphasis from a separating to a preparatory work.. this leads to questions : what is the purpose of their kingdom ministry and in what way does it prepare people?.
This is a really good topic. I had these same thoughts since I was little. My dad is an inactive JW, so I was always worried that he would be destroyed because he knew the "truth" but rejected it. But then I had a little hope when I thought that, well, jehovah knows what's in his heart and knows he is a great guy, so maybe he'll be ok. It's stupid for a little kid to have to worry about stuff like that. Stupid, and very unfair.
I also asked my sister (2 years younger than me) about the purpose of service if Jehovah had the final say anyhow? She is 17, and gave the typical JW answer... "we are just educating and giving hope for a better future." HAHAHAH! yeah, whatever....

Anyhow, I just wanted to say that I just finished writing a talk. I have it on Thursday night, and it is on Bad Associations! You would think they saved it for me or something! :-) Let's just say that the talk is boring, brainwashing, and so completely typical of all JW material that I am actaully ashamed I wrote it. Wouldn't it be great if i had the guts to get up on stage and give this lecture on how wonderful friends are who aren't in the "Truth" because they aren't always looking for a reason to turn you in? That would be such fun, but I am not that daring, so I have to be subdued...
Anyhow, for anyone else who has to sit through this crap on thursday night, i sympathize with you. Maybe some day I'll make a talk exciting...

here's the deal... some of us *have* to be "active" witnesses because our situations do not allow us any other choice. example - ME! i hate every last minute of my brainwashing sessions and wasted hours at meetings and preparation (5 minute watchtower underlining) and service (or the guilt trips laid on me when i don't go out)... but why do i endure rather than obtain the sweet taste of freedom? sheer economics my dear friends... i am 19, a full time college student, and i also have a social life. this means i can not yet afford to live on my own... maybe people like Matty are in similar situations. so Bang and others, please take it easy on us... we don't purposely try to irritate you. we just have no other options. i am sorry, but that's the way it goes sometimes.

i read from the freedom of mind web site that licensed cult-expert, steven hassan was also interviewed for the dateline episode.
this would mean that in addition to the wt protecting pedophiles, they are going to expose them for being a cult .

DIM - I totally agree with you. That is how "normal" JW's will react. Then they will pump up even more so the need for field service, which is gonna suck big time... ugh. i can't wait....

wow - there's a decent amount of us here from the philly area... never realized.
well, according to the people in my hall, us "sisters" are pretty damn helpless.
our hall is being remodelded, so last night during the announcements, the brother said, "we need as many brothers as we can get to help with doing the work this weekend..." then he has the sheer audacity to say, "and we will also need some sisters to clean up the mess afterwards.

to everyone who said women can do just as much.... thanks! i am in no ways a feminist or anything, but i am a very capaple person, and i hate when people tell me i can't do something. it just makes me want to prove i can!
so i have to admit.... i did end up going and helping today. and let me tell you, i kicked some butt. i was in charge of painting, believe it or not. but, after we were done, i left. i didn't stick around to do my "womanly thing" and clean! :-)
