And makes it very clear that Jehovah should not be inserted instead of Kyrios.
Those muppets won't mention THAT from the platform.
the circuit overseer mentioned something about the nwt being the most accurate translation according to professor jason b dunn, i heard this nonsense before but never really dug deep in to this topic because non of us really had a choice as jws but to accept all their random musing of our uneducated leaders as factual.
1. if the new world translation was the picture perfect translation of all the bibles and we went door to door telling everyone we had the "most honest bible", why did they change it to a paraphrased version?
what success have you had getting jehovah's witnesses to address why they tinkered with the new world translation, it was suppose to be the best translation and now it's turned in to a very loose paraphrased version.

i'm not sure the whole 607 b.c.e.
controversy is really that major of a deal.. even if the society admits it and changes it, that's only a difference of 20-21 years, so the governing body could just shift 1914 to 1934-1935 and say that world war ii and hitler was the beginning of the signs.. a much bigger issue is why they even say daniel's tree prophecy has an antitypical fulfillment, especially after their new light on types and antitypes..
Even if the Society admits it and changes it, that's only a difference of 20-21 years, so the Governing Body could just shift 1914 to 1934-1935 and say that World War II and Hitler was the beginning of the signs.
Problems include:
1) A 1984 WT which clearly stated it was not 1934 as 1914 was correct. Why did God's Organisation on Earth deny when his Son started to reign?
2) 1914 has been such an intense focus by the Society for 130+ years, that it makes God look like a muppet to allow his only Organisation on Earth to preach the wrong date - plus you have Deuteronomy 18:20-22
3) There are so many associated parts post 1914. Like 1919. They tie in the arrest in 1918 of the WT Directors and the subsequent release in 1919 to the fulfilment of prophecy. What about the 7 trumpet blasts of Revelation and the Cedar Point conventions. Where do you shift that to?
4) What about Carl Orloff Johnson's work that he sent in 1977 to the WT? He was disfellowshipped for pointing out 1914 was wrong. Many have been thrown out over knowing 1914 was wrong. Where was God's Holy Spirit at all their Judicial Committees? Why did God want a false date printed and why did he enforce that false date?
1914 is a millstone around their neck. They will get hammered for it (rightly so) for dropping it.
how long did the flood last?how long can land vegetation survive submerged in seawater?how long can freshwater fish survive in saltwater?how old is human civilization?
what is the oldest settlement in south america?
how did those people get there from the middle east after the flood wiped out everything on the earth?.
Only one one scientist predicted actual rounded boulders as likely: Walt Brown. 13 years ago. Laugh all you want, his crazy theory is being confirmed constantly. He's made around 40 predictions. 5 are confirmed, the rest pending. And yet, he's just a dumb young earth creationist.
Sounds good to me!

I don't care about 607/1914. I was more concerned about other parts of the article "Prepare Now for Life in the New World". Paragraphs 6 & 7 are particularly mind-bending. They sure don't make the paradise sound very enjoyable: ...unappealing work...? ...ASSIGNED to live...? No choice? SUBMIT!
Yes indeed - the quote is below:
Today, of course, we do not know where each one of us may be assigned to live in the new system of things. However, cooperation will bring us contentment and great happiness as we do Jehovah’s will wherever we live on earth at that time.
Sell that dream baby - sell it!
Of course, our circumstances may change with the passing of time. For instance, some members of the Bethel family in the United States have been reassigned to the field and are now enjoying abundant blessings in other forms of the full-time ministry. Because of advancing age or other factors, others who were in the traveling work have now received special pioneer assignments.
How happifying it is to see how God treats older ones. Retirement? No - do more!

So we can expect that world conditions, bad as they are now, will continue to decline.
But they're not getting worse are they? You're making this up!
For example, do you expect that there will be a war in every country, no food on anyone’s table, and illness in every household? Under those conditions, even skeptics would likely feel compelled to admit that Bible prophecy was undergoing fulfillment. However, Jesus said that most people would take “no note” of his presence, carrying on with life’s normal activities until it is too late.
Thus, the Scriptures indicate that world conditions during the last days would not become so extreme that people would be forced to believe that the end is near.
Riiiight. So actually it won't become worse than it is. Because then it would be too obvious. Why would God want the Last Days to become obvious, eh? Great logic there WT!
On the other hand, for the composite sign to serve its purpose, the fulfillment of it would have to be obvious enough to command the attention of those who have been obeying Jesus’ counsel to “keep on the watch.”
And that has been the case since 1914. From that time onward, the features of the sign have been undergoing fulfillment. Clearly, we are now living in “the conclusion of the system of things”—a limited period of time leading up to and including the destruction of this wicked system.
We are right. We are right. We are right. We are right. We are right. We are right. We are right.
One sister commented: “By preaching the good news of God’s Kingdom, we . . . can help to rescue persons from sure death in the coming world catastrophe.”
Charming. God will judge people on their reaction to a dodgy message about 1914. Way to go God!
Events on the world scene clearly indicate that Bible prophecy is now being fulfilled and that the end of this wicked system of things is imminent. Therefore, we should not assume that much time is needed for the state of this world to develop to the point where “the ten horns” and “the wild beast” of Revelation 17:16 turn on Babylon the Great, the world empire of false religion. Let us bear in mind that God will “put it into their hearts” to make that move—and this could happen swiftly and at any time!
Indicate? What they don't prove fulfilment? They Indicate...
Imminent. Probably the most overused work in the WT lexicon.
So it's business as usual in WT land. But for an article which is supposed to be a rallying call, it seems to be very lack lustre. In years gone by the article would have been crammed with quotes from newspapers about how human society is falling apart . But we're not in the 60's anymore.
It's all very sad.
after todays watchtower lesson, and the lessons coming, something tells me bigger and bigger new understandings are coming.
and that it will culminate with 1914. notice how jesus is now coming, and no longer already here.
the current understanding is both, he is here and hes also coming.
I have to agree with the idea that 1914 has a shelf life, but I suspect for a while yet.
To some of the above who believe it can't be dropped, the difference with JW's and other faiths who have changed their beliefs is that a) they have focused on 1914 for so long (almost 140 years) and b) it is at the heart of the public ministry. In 2064, how ridiculous will it look to talk about Christ's return 150 years ago? And still nothing has happened.
So how could they drop it?
There are two obvious ways. Overtly or covertly . Overtly could be done if someone can devise an 'inspiring' way of doing a whole re-work of their numbers game. If it could include 1914 and then have a new start date, and a return of the old 'within a literal generation' then job done. As long as the R&F can believe that the end is imminent they will continue to put their lives on hold.
Covertly means quietly dropping ala the Kings of the North and South. Mentioning it less and less and the decades go by. Until it becomes meaningless to the young JW's of the future and it's never mentioned again.
As they don't seem to have a new seer like Freddie Franz then covertly seems the more likely option in my opinion.
hi, i watched this video and was greatly insulted by the tactics used by islamic apologist who claims he can defeat any atheist or non monotheists through his basic logic.
where do you begin, might be interesting if cofty debated this guy, no, i like cofty and don't want him getting jumped by all the followers who fall for this guys logical errors.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtgnfzwjd0i.
Nothing worse than a 'believer' arguing with someone who doesn't know enough about how science works. Does this fool think Oppenheimer split the atom just on the basis of his senses? There was no evaluation and critique of empirical data by a group of fellow scientists?
How have other scientists replicated his work then? They also just used their senses?
Muppets - both of them.
from that nutty red book of insanity, the grand climax at hand book, chapter 22, paragraphs 7 & 8. .
i had my doubts since childhood.
i went along with it to please people.
im not sure if it's even in the library at JW dot org
Aside from the Reasoning book, there are no 20th century JW books in the book area of the WT Online library.
That in itself speaks volumes...

The Isaiah book was the last for me and going to the book study. I could not bear sitting through such repetitive, baseless garbage.
Me too.
Compounded by the Study Conductor being (a very nice) brother with a VERY strong West Indies accent and a repetitive word habit..
"So brothers, we see...don't we...dat Je'ovah...don't we..dat Is in 'eaven"...don't we...etc.
He talked and talked and talked. The study would last 90 minutes - 2 hours!
Plus I also found the book incredibly dull and repetitive. It was probably then that I started to wake up.
