as it turned out they wheedled the answer out of him by his fiancee, but the point is that they had a wager.
since the underlying assumption of the apostasy is that we are not living in the last days of this system of things, and that this world is not facing anything remotely like the biblical apocalypse, at least not any time soon, in the spirit of such antagonism, i would like to propose a similar wager.

I Said Goodbye
by Farkel inmy father was rushed by ambulance from his rest home to st. marks hospital in salt lake city, utah friday, but i only just heard about it.
i received a call from the floor nurse and she told me he is not expected to live.
his lungs are filled fill up with fluid and are continuing to fill u with more fluid: he has pneumonia.

My love and concern go out to you, Doug. You recall to my mind a couple of years ago, when my own father lay dying.
My father abandoned my mother and brother when she was pregnant with me. He came back for a spell after I was born, but came and went periodically and without notice until my mother divorced him for nonsupport when I was 10. After that I saw him even less frequently, and always got the feeling from him that I was a guilt-stone attached to his ankle, someone he hadn't wanted and consequently hadn't loved, and yet felt guilty for not loving.
I may have seen my father as many as five times during my adult life. I knew him less well than I know the checker at my regular grocery store.
When I heard that he was dying, I made the several-hours drive to say my goodbye. He was in a coma, and so I sat in his room wondering what to say to this person to whom I was connected by genetics and nothing else. At length I spoke; and when I did, I told him frankly about what life had been like without a father. Then I identified with his side, described what I think it must have been like for him. I would up saying that I understood and that I forgave him. At the end, I said, "Go in peace, dad. I love you," and I left. The next day, he died.
Although he probably never knew on any conscious level that I was there, I like to think that I sent him on his way a little more at peace with himself. I certainly was more at peace, for having been able to tie up that loose end.
You're a lucky man, Doug, to have been able to love your father while he was still alive rather than as an afterthought. To have actually known him as a father, and benefitted from his teaching and example. It must be a wonderful thing.

Jayhawk1, it's the same old crap with a different name. I see it over and over and over and over and over, endlessly. Some guy just pops up out of the blue, brand new poster, first post, and represents himself as wanting "some clarity" or "having questions" or "wanting help to understand" or any of a number of ways of saying, "I want you to teach me." Then he brings up the trinity.
This is pure bullshit. He is not here for help to understand. He is here to pick a fight over the trinity; a fight which no one will or can win, because the bible is vague and contradictory enough to give the appearance of support to either point of view without ever dogmatically establishing either one. So each side clings fanatically to its view and tries to force the other side's acceptance of the scriptures it uses to support that view, while trying to ignore, discount or explain away any scriptures that say anything else. Note how Bob, in his opening post, has zeroed in on one solitary scripture, one which does not mention God, and does not mention Jesus; and yet because of reading this one scripture, Bob says, the entire world of mankind should be convinced that God and Jesus are the same.
I have seen this debate countless times. It always goes on and on forever, and it never gets resolved; nobody ever changes their minds and goes over to the other side.
I would bet big money on it that "Bob Knowing" is Rex B13, aka Worldly Witness (from H2O), here in a new disguise to indulge in his favorite pastime: arguing the trinity.
