the words: intellectual laziness.
recognize this trait?
ahhh, many who apostasies from the one truth, shall we say ,adopts this trait-and transforms into epitomies of intellectual laziness...they construct the premise there is no true god to mislead others...they proceed to construct arguments to support these prefabricated conclusions with the building blocks of false logic...they convince intellectually lazy individuals the odds of a creators existence are remote...a lie recognizable to any form of honest intelligence.. craig rusbult, ph.d. explains why god refuses to provide irrefutable proof in his existence on the web page http://www.asa3.org/asa/education/views/proof.htm - "although it isn't stated directly in the bible, god seems to prefer a balance of evidence: there is enough reason to believe if we want to believe, but not enough to intellectually force belief against our will.

i have seen the term 'unconditional love' used often in reference to jws.
now, i understand the import: they love someone only on the condition that someone remains a jw "in good standing.
however, the term 'unconditional love' is proferred in a positive light.
IMHO, it seems that the only person who could be loved unconditionally would be God--if one believes in a deity.
I completely disagree. In order to love someone unconditionally, all you have to do is separate their actions from their person. For example, I have a nephew who is a holy terror. At 17, he is presently in boot camp (the next thing to prison). He has been on house arrest before, where he had to wear a collar on his ankle that alerts the authorities if he leaves his house. He is a constant danger to his younger brother when he is in the house, and now that he's older, I consider him a menace to his mother and grandmother (my mother) as well. I am aware that I may one day receive a call informing me that he has killed them all. I wouldn't be surprised. Yet I love my nephew.
I don't condone his behavior, but I know why he is like that. I watched some of the events that shaped his personality. I know that the poor guy never had much of a chance, and that he's never known love, or praise, or encouragement. His life has been a constant barrage of negatives; his anger and antisocial behavior is a desperate reaction to that.
I will always have deep sadness in my heart for Jimmy. There isn't much I can do to help him. I have done what little I can. When I visit them, I get him off to himself for a while (away from the criticism and nitpicking, and away from his brother who catches the trickle-down) and I spend a couple of hours or so just talking with him in an encouraging, nonjudgmental manner, accepting him for the person that he is. I don't know for sure that I've saved my mom's and sister's life by doing that, but it's possible... he hasn't killed them yet.
Unconditional love can be extended to anybody. And the person most needing of it, most deserving of it from you, is yourself. Never, never say that nobody can be loved unconditionally. You thereby make the basis of your own necessary self-love invalid, and give yourself the out to return to the world of guilt and self-loathing.

what subject matters most interest you, what do you enjoy learning about and what does this subject matter do for you?.
what subjects ideally would you love to have knowledge of most and why?.
onen hag oll.
I recently decided to learn how to cook. I mean really cook, like making sauces from scratch, using a rolling pin on homemade pie dough, that kind of stuff, not just heating canned food in a microwave or grilling steaks. I want to be able to do it the way I remember my grandmother doing it.
Also I am considering taking art classes. I have a tad bit of natural talent in that area, but I need knowledge of colors, shading, depth, and all that other neat stuff. I got the idea to learn this stuff from talking with Ana, who is an artist herself.

i can't bear to make her nervous.. ashi
I might be stable, but that doesn't mean I was born in one.

the reality of impending death is our one certainty.
if we are fortunate enough to live for 70 years, we will have lived for 840 brief months.. the womb to the tomb is a rapid journey.
i once wandered through a cemetery in a town called rochester in the uk and always having a fascination for last words, i happened upon the c19th tombstone of a man who had been fatally struck while playing cricket!

Lies all that's left of Franklin Mare
Who, too soon in the month of May,
Took off his flannel underwear.

to make a long story short... nah, i'll just tell it the way it is.
about 3-4 years ago, a @#$@ "brother" made a talk at an assembly.
now, what made this talk so peculiar was that he used a quote from matt groening who apparently said "i'm sorry i created the simpsons, cause i see it has a bad influence on my children... this was to show that the "world" is very, very bad.. since i was (and still am) a devoted simpsons fan, i was completely shocked when i heard that "quote".
whatever Matt Groening said, it was a joke. Hear that??? A JOKE!
Mindfield... you're starting to sound like your hated elder.
It's going to be okay, man. Take a few deep breaths and relax your neck muscles consciously. All will be well. Really!

earlier in isp's thread, someone posted a reprint of a 1952 wt article likening women to cows.. i cut and pasted the whole article to my dad as well as my sister and a jw friend who continues to talk to me despite my being labeled apostate.. i did not change any words, only highlighted or bolded the sentences that i thought were especially outrageous.. i sent the article under the 'guise' of a lighthearted joke to this sister, and telling her she needs to do her wifely duty and bear children to her husband.. a few minutes ago, i received this response from my dad.. lisa, .
i don't understand your purpose in sending me e-mails of a 40-year old article from the watchtower that i already have access to if i chose to spend the time to look it up.
i can sense from your "subject" and the high-lighted portions of the article that your intent was perhaps to riducule the counsel, especially the comparison of a young girl to a cow.

After all, I am only giving my opinion. As usual, the defensiveness shines through very clearly.
You gave your opinion of what I think. You were quite wrong. There's no defensiveness involved in me saying so. It's just a statement of fact. But, you need your illusions, so go ahead... tell yourself that you're right and that I'm all defensive about it. I don't mind.

i am a 32 year old female.
i think my view of sex and relationships is pretty much screwed up.
i was taught that all men are dogs and that all they want is sex.
Frankly, I would not even bother going out with someone I didn't desire to have sex with.
Is wanting sex a bad thing? News flash: it's an integral part of a normal relationship, and is probably the biggest reason why people pair off in the first place. Not the only reason, but the biggest.
There's far more to a relationship than sex. Friendship, shared experiences, good conversation, a listening ear in times of trouble, a relaxing shoulder-rub when you're tense, a sounding board for new ideas; not to mention a collaborator in your personal efforts toward survival of the species. You might even find that rare, perhaps mythical creature, the soulmate.
Sex is one of many items in a list. All of them are good things. Including sex. Why is sex, alone of all these, considered bad if desired by your partner? How come he is not a dog if he desires conversation with you, but he is a dog if he desires sex with you? I don't get it. Clue me in.
