Really? I didn't think Chris was that good at all. I mean, he sounds like every other person on the alternative rock radio stations, or the "rock-ish" type songs on Top 40... or even the adult contemporary stations when they play stuff like Nickelback and Fuel and stuff!

Are Jehovah's Witness kids generally not allowed to go to dances? I know, I know, the usual rules about not being too involved in extracurricular activities and stuff. But I knew of a couple that had parents that not only let them go, but encouraged it.
So what would be the bigger deal to these gossip-mongers? The lip piercing, or the fact that he's going to the prom?

I actually think this is the worst year for American Idol ever. I don't think anyone was that good. I was glad Chris got sent home. But I don't think any of the others are good, either. I just watch it cause it's addictive, and I started watching at the beginning of the season so I wanna know what happens. But I still am not impressed with anyone. Chris didn't impress me at all, and neither do any of the others.

Thanks to everyone for your love and support and advice. It's nice to know that people think I did the right thing.
You're right, I think he does need counseling. I have suggested it, and he says he cannot afford it. But I know that is talking to some people at his church (don't worry, nothing scary or bad, and NOTHING like the JWs). It's true that he doesn't have a lot of money right now, but I do hope that gets professional counseling someday. I will continue to encourage it in a caring, gentle way when I speak with him. I think he would benefit from it TREMENDOUSLY.
Thanks again, everyone. I appreciate the hugs. :) Please keep me in your thoughts, if you ever remember!

Dr Phil - Mennonites/Hutterites - brainwashing
by Scully indid anyone see the last 2 episodes of dr phil concerning the abduction of two girls by their father into the remote mennonite communities in belize?.
it was interesting to hear dr phil describe the girls' affect as being "flat" and that something just wasn't right.
the mother believes the girls have been brainwashed into the "plain" lifestyle.

Oh, I am really sorry that I missed those shows! I usually catch those things. I have been so busy with school lately, though, that I didn't even know that they were going to be on.
Dr. Phil shows re-runs, I know, so if anyone ever sees commercials for when they are going to be re-run, try to post it on here and let me know.
looking glass, you are right. I do not think most Mennonites are like that, or are even that extreme. There are Mennonite churches around here, and none of them even dress in the traditional way. No head coverings, no nothing. They dress the same way anyone else would.... Then there are the Mennonites that live in other areas, like ones I have seen in Ohio and Pennsylvania (no, I am not confusing them with the Amish). Plenty of them do dress in a plain style, but they are still mostly fairly normal and plenty use cars, electricity, etc.

We have been together about 2 and a half years (which, to me, is quite awhile) and it was great for awhile but now I really keep discovering things he lies about to me. Like some are stupid little things, and others are big things... and I just cannot take that anymore. If he lies about so much right now... what would things be like in 10 years?
He used to be a JW, and his family was very abusive and neglectful... I think that he is still messed up pretty bad from this organization and his sick, SICK family. However, I just can't take this anymore. I have pretty much told him that it's over... and I said I wanted to be friends. I didn't just say it to be cliche, I really MEAN it. And he's like "No, it's all or nothing."
Anyway - I am really disappointed that this didn't work out. However, he was never the most mentally stable person I knew. He cries an awful lot and has had problems with self-mutilation and stuff... that was a couple years ago, he hasn't done that in years, but still... it was weird.
He keeps insisting that he's not lying about stuff... but I always catch him in such dumb, obvious lies. I don't even have to LOOK for them... they're just there! I don't know what to do... I told him I wanted to be friends and nothing else, at least for now, and now he won't even talk to me and he hasn't called or anything, but he does send me IMs telling me he still loves me to death but seeing me or being friends would be too painful. I am so disappointed this isn't working... I really loved him and wanted it to. I still do love him, in some ways. He's still like my best friend.
Does anyone think crazy JW families can screw someone up permanently and make them REALLY bad to have relationships with?
(On a bright note, it was 82 degrees here in Buffalo, is still 79 at this hour, and the Sabres have beat the Senators in their last 2 games!)

I didn't know that churches ever owned shopping malls... what churches or denominations tend to get into that sort of thing?

Hey everyone that bothers to read this post,
I have missed participating in this discussion forum a lot. I have been SO BUSY with school... and unfortunately, the next 3 weeks are going to be even busier. Actually, that's okay. But it doesn't leave much time for this. But, anyway, I have missed everyone. I probably won't be on much for the next few weeks while I finish school up (yes, my semesters go much longer than most colleges), but hopefully after that I will get a chance.
To anyone that private messaged me and I didn't respond... I am sorry! To anyone that I forgot to thank for anything... I am sorry and thank you! To DannyH... thanks for the help with how to make photos bigger. LOL I really needed it, I had no idea what I was doing.
I have been called for jury duty for the first Monday after I get out of school. In a way I kind of hope that I get on a jury.
Whether I get on one or not, though, I have to find a job. I haven't worked in so long. I am kind of freaked out, because I seriously haven't had a job in over a year. Plus I still won't have my degree, but I just need something decent for the summer and possibly the fall semester. What do you guys think I should do? Anyone have any suggestions as to the type of work that I should look for?
Well, thanks if anyone bothered to read this. I have missed this and look forward to hopefully getting back into the swing of things on here eventually!

Okay... I tried doing it like you said but now I think it may show up way too small. It shows up a nice big size on my computer but it's being weird when I use this... I don't know. If it doesn't work, I'll try again later. It's not that important. :-) Sorry, everyone, for being so bad at this!
