Guantanamo Bay Suicides - a PR Move
by eyeslice inquote from bbc website .
a top us official has described the suicides of three detainees at the us base at guantanamo bay, cuba, as a "good pr move to draw attention".
colleen graffy told the bbc the deaths were part of a strategy and "a tactic to further the jihadi cause", but taking their own lives was unnecessary.

Um, yeah, jihadists commit suicide all of the time! This is nothing new. "Suicide bomber," anyone? They consider this to be their highest calling. There is nothing they love more than to commit suicide for their "cause," because then they get to go be with Allah in heaven, get to bring a certain number of souls with them, and get a bunch of virgins of their very own!
I don't think Guantanamo is as much of a hell as some would like you to think... they get to hang out and relax, read whatever books they ask for (I heard that Agatha Christie and Harry Potter are popular choices, no joke) all translated into Arabic, get to play volleyball and all other kinds of things. Believe me, they're fine.

Embarassing moment involving a bra and an interview
by kristyann inso i went to this job interview this morning (my semester is finished, and i am looking for something for the summer, and my jury duty just ended, which hopefully i'll get a chance to tell you about some other time).
so i applied at this doctor's office to just do office work and filing and stuff like that.
the place is really great and laid back and it seems like a really fun place to work!.

Oh my lanta... you guys... I got a call for a second interview! LOL I cannot believe it. I go back for the second interview next Tuesday. I mean, that certainly doesn't mean I have the job, but I guess it DOES mean that the bra through the shirt thing wasn't the hugest deal in the world to them. You all were right. Thanks so much for your help.
I'll let you know how it goes next time... and I'll be sure to be extra careful when getting dressed!

AWWWW thank you! LOL you all made me laugh so much! Those are some good stories, and you really cheered me up and made me realize it's not the biggest deal in the world. And you're right, if they only concentrated on that, why would I want to work there, anyway?
NO, I do not have any pictures of yesterday morning in bright light, you goofs! If I ever decide to take any like that, you'll all be the first to see them, though!

Do you have to be "gullible" in order to be a good JW?
by JH inin french we use the word "naif", which means to believe anything that's said without proof of it being true.
i think that gullible is the english translation.. i was very gullible in my early jw years.
i guess it's not faith that one needs to be a good jw, but gullibility...

I agree with under_believer. It does seem to be pretty successful amongst the lower classes of people, and that's sad in and of itself because a lot of these people are looking for some sort of meaning or hope in life. And then the Watchtower does whatever it possibly can to keep these people naive and to keep them in the lower classes (i.e. telling them not to go to college, not to get educated) because they know that if they become less naive and have more knowledge, they will leave!

Exaggeration on WT site?
by Broken Hearted inthis week while doing some more of my reseach, i went to the official wt site.
i was just looking around in many areas, when i came upon this media release in 2003. so i read what they have typed then watch the video.
something struck me odd so i read the page again and then re watched the video.

drew sagan, I agree completely. Most JWs seem to have a good case of martyr syndrome. They want everyone to think that they have it so much worse than they do. Sure, they are persecuted in some areas, and that's not good and I don't approve of it for any group. But they always try to make it sound like they are so much more persecuted than any other group when really they are only a minor blip on the radar.

Let's Decorate the Kingdom Hall!
by Nosferatu inone thing that always sucked about the kingdom hall was it's blandness.
bland wallpaper, bland paint, no pictures, no windows, maybe a fake plant or fake flowers, the big sign with the years text, the cork board, and contribution boxes.
boring.. what would you put into a kingdom hall to make it look more interesting?

Ahhhhhhahahahaha a cuckoo clock would be great!
I think a lot of places, like churches or classrooms or anything, have clocks at the back, so that the audience isn't staring at it the whole time. Also, it's convenient for the speaker or teacher to keep track of time. A cuckoo clock would really throw that whole plan out the window, though, huh? :-)
Has anyone actually ever snuck anything like jack-o-lanterns for Halloween or an American flag or a "He Is Risen!" sign for Easter? Would it be easy to do without getting caught? They don't have cameras monitoring or anything, do they? I know, I know, they are very cheap, but since they are so intent on spying on people, maybe they obtain cheap 1980s video recorders from somewhere and set them up and monitor the place? I'm serious. Would it be possible to do something like that, or would there be a police officer on my doorstep the next morning? (Since JWs are big fans of calling the police, even though they're not allowed to be police officers.)

Thanks.
One interviewer was a man (the doctor), the other was a woman (the office manager).

So I went to this job interview this morning (my semester is finished, and I am looking for something for the summer, and my jury duty just ended, which hopefully I'll get a chance to tell you about some other time). So I applied at this doctor's office to just do office work and filing and stuff like that. The place is really great and laid back and it seems like a really fun place to work!
I'm getting dressed for the interview this morning, and I am really into fashion and normally, my outfits look perfect (or as close as one can get without being Ana Sui or Marc Jacobs themselves). But I was running late, and I really wanted to get there early to make a good impression. I wore this really beautiful turquoise and silver skirt, and I wore a white lacy button-up sleeveless blouse with it. (the outfit is totally appropriate for that office, all the people who work there dress really young and fashionable, it's not stuffy at all). However, the blouse is kind of see-through, so I normally always wear a white camisole underneath it so that you can't really see my bra or anything.
APPARENTLY I forgot to put the camisole on before I put the blouse on. I looked at myself before I left the house, and I didn't notice anything looking out of the ordinary, but I was in a hurry and was concentrating more on my hair and getting it to look really good, and I think the light I was in wasn't the best this morning cause it was a little overcast out. So I go to the interview and everything seemed okay, but then later on when I look in a mirror AFTER the interview, my bra is like blatantly showing through my blouse! It was REALLY obvious. The bra was white, too, so at least I didn't do anything stupid like wear a pink or black one or something. But STILL... I normally look so put-together, and that must have just looked so stupid! A bright white bra just screaming for everyone to notice it. The people who interviewed me must have thought "Why is she wearing a see-through shirt?"
UGH! I am so embarassed, and I needed to tell someone, and everyone I know is still at work or not really around until later. Anyone want to make me feel better or tell me it's not so bad? I highly doubt I even have a shot at the job now. That's too bad, too, cause it seemed like a great place to work.
