The pagan festival period that Christmas is from is called Yule. Mistletoe and holly were used, they caroled, they ate and drank, they gave gifts, etc. Solstice = sun being born. X-mas = Son being born.
EVERYTHING is basically the same. It is easier to list what is NOT the same.
The pagan holiday called Samhain (pronounced Sow-en), and commonly called Hallow's Evening or Hallowe'en or Halloween, was borrowed as well, as was Easter.
Truth.

Christmas is pagan.
I am not going to repeat everything that I and others have already stated.
If you want to celebrate, go ahead.
But you can't lie to yourself. Truth. It is of pagan origin, created to overshadow existing birth of the sun solstice rituals and feast days. -

The "deeper things" will be discussed in these mags.
By the time they put something obviously crazy in there, some months down the line, people will already feel so special that they will suck it all in. -

The lawyers have to be the most indoctrinated of the inner circle. They are privy to all of the dark secrets -- finances, pedophile lawsuits, etc. To remain in the organization after viewing just a couple of those documents takes a special type. They couldn't possibly lie to themselves the whole time. The truth is staring at them through all of the court documents.

Many of your "hard" questions aren't really hard at all. They contain many assumptions.
For example, your thoughts on electricity generation: electricity is generated in MANY ways besides burning fossil fuels. I knew that since the third grade. -

Did being raised as a witness make you smarter?
by Paralipomenon ina topic that came up on gabbly the other day.
i've seen a few "post your iq" or other test topics on the forums here.
if people are even close to truthful with their score i would guess the average iq would be ~125, quite possibly higher.

You have to remember that this is not a random sampling.

You are depressed, and may not even realize it.
You are displaying several symptoms.
It's OK to like to be alone. It's not OK to only interact with society for selfish reasons. -

Nosferatu, that was funny.
It took quite a few AOL offers to get that sculpture going.
Anyway, someone please take these off of my hands. I know there is someone who still researches the Watchtower and Awake for some reason. I am not bothering with eBay. -

by restrangled ini know its early, but so many of us were denied the thrill of the holidays for so many years, i think most of us on jwd tend to look forward to holidays more than the average person.
the weather finally changed today here in florida, and everyone i talk to is thinking about the holidays which inspired me to start this thread..... so lets get your favorite dish or dishes you are willing to share.
this gives everyone time to try it and add to their menus.

Semi-hijack:
I came up with a great way to discover recipes online.
I simply type what I have on hand into a search engine, and check the results.
Example:
If I had potatoes, onions, hamburger, and tomatoes, I find out that I could make a
ground beef casserole, which I had never heard of before.
I call this method the Bachelor's Surprise.
