I still struggle with the idea that God could be working through individuals scattered in numerous denominations. The case for this is weak scripturally, just as many on here can argue that the case that God has only ever worked through one 'organisation' is equally weak.
But when I went to some other churches after leaving the organisation, it struck me how totally insular the JW view is. Here I was with other 'Christians' who seemed more kind, decent, and 'Christian' than any self-satisfied JW I'd ever met. These were REAL people that loved God and appeared to have some connection with Jesus that I had never experienced before. They weren't all raving nutters speaking in tongues and rolling around the floor; just good, clean people who love Jesus. Although I am still bothered at their services by their obvious confusion about who God is (I remain a firm non-trinitarian), I can see that they really are genuine Christian people serving God the best way they know how. Surely Jesus still feels love for these people, despite their having some false beliefs.
Perhaps it is all about relationship and not religion after all. It's all about love not doctrine. I'm still working my way through it....

One True Religion?
by blondie ininteresting topic from beliefnet.
12/14/2006 11:54 pm .
taking the position that jesus christ is, in fact, the son of god who paid the price for our sins, i dont believe our affiliation with any christian religion "gives a person an 'an edge'" in their approval by god and christ.

Do you have a hope for the future???
by winnie injust wondering, all who have left, are leaving, or are still 'in' and no longer believe.. jw's have the hope of living forever...paradise...etc.. what is your hope for the future?.

I still believe the JW's have got many things right from the Bible. I still believe in God, Jesus, the bible, etc, so I still have the hope of living forever. I just have no faith in the Watchtower Society or the organisation as a whole. It is about as much the true religion as the Pharisees were when Jesus walked the earth. The Pharisees didn't believe the trinity, an immortal soul, hell, etc.

TIME Magazine Articles on Jehovah's Witnesses
by Wild_Thing inhas anyone ever posted about the tons of time magazine articles about the jws?
time has been around forever and has been a 'witness' (pardon the pun) to much of their history .. clear back to the 1930s.
go to the time website and search for yourself!

Yes, TIME hasn't been the best friend to the organisation. The more TIME passes, the more stupid they are.

Child dies because he did not want to go to the meeting

The mother is not totally irreprehensible. She must have really upset her autistic son to cause him to be so violent that the police were needed. This probably means it was an ongoing battle between her and him and finally things came to a head and erupted. She had probably been nagging him and dragging him for months. She probably got no help from the congregation except platitudes from the elders that she must keep bringing him.
Some JW parents can get pretty nutty when their child starts rebelling and refusing to go to meetings etc. I remember my mother taking to me and my sister with a piece of skipping rope when we were badly playing up once. The JW world creates that kind of frantic, pressure-cooker mentality with all their meetings, talk of the end of the world, etc.
It's very sad and highlights the real situation in the organisation, ie, full of unhappy, stressed out families. -

Supplement letter to Witchtower Babble study next Sunday 17th
by hamsterbait inat the end of today's witchtower, the elder taking it said that next weeks meeting was about appreciating and showing respect for the meetings, and that a letter with "guidelines" - no don't laugh - from the society about this would be read out.. is this why this week was all about being obedient drones and not questioning anything (except for the question "what does the wtbts currently teach on this for me to parrot robotically while maintaining a rictus smile of fake joy?").
anybody see this letter yet?.

Puzzled - why are they objecting?
by ozziepost inyep, i'm puzzled.. i checked the jw-media site (well, it doesn't hurt to see what they're up to now, eh?
) and i came across this item:.
armenia's unresolved issue of conscientious objection to military service.

The UN charter refers to the UN using armed force if necessary. The Society agreed to uphold that charter when it signed up with UN in 1991.

Yet they can't see that alternative service, whether or not it is organised by the military, in no way conflicts with Jesus command to put away the sword.

Yes, but all that matters in the mind of the JW is that World War 1 started in 1914 and Russell predicted something global and terrible would happen in 1914! That's got to be more than just coincidence!!
That's what I used to think, even knowing that the WTS has changed the spin on its history. -

Sunday's public talk about 1914 mentioned 586
by GBSJG inthe public talk of last sunday was about 1914, the last days and the prophecy of daniel.. so the speaker explains how we get to the 2520 years and that jerusalem fell in 607. but after that he must have talked about the 586 date for 5 minutes.
he said that some say the jerusalem fell in 586 instead of 607. but then you would not get to 1914 but 1934 and nothing special happened then.
then he says that jw have published convincing material about why the date must be 607 without mentioning what that material exactly is (he actually said this several times).

I can't recall ever hearing 586 mentioned from the platform.
It's great the speaker mentioned it though because it may plant seeds of doubt. Some may think "Heck, I didn't know there was an alternative date for the fall of Jerusalem....I think I'll hop on the internet when I get home and check it out!"
