What Is Your View Toward Religions & "Religious" People?
by minimus inmy take on religions in general is that they all either give hope or some type of contentment for the person who takes their religion seriously.
if they're good, they go to heaven or to some better condition.
some religions are more radical than others and these types, i stay away from.. regarding those that are very religious, i'm generalizing here, but i think most of them are extremists in one way or another.

Study ended because he asked too many embarrassing questions.
by bronzefist innothing new here just a reminder to those who havent been to hall for awhile.. a workmate just had his study cut off.
there were some things he was being taught that he agreed with (trinity) some he didnt (faithful and discreet slave being a group of old men in ny).
here are a couple of interesting facts:.

I visited a church once out of curiosity after fading from the borg and was very impressed when the minister said he is concerned not so much about churches that have unanswered questions but churches that have unquestioned answers! How true is that.

Something I noticed in the famous "1975" Watchtower article...
by B_Deserter ini decided to read for myself the articles my father and mother were reading during this interesting time in witness history.
i stumbled upon the following paragraph that scared the bejeezus out of me: .
"one thing is absolutely certain, bible chronology reinforced with fulfilled bible prophecy shows that six thousand years of mans existence will soon be up, yes, within this generation!

False expectations or false prophecy? You decide.
"However, the prophet who presumes to speak in my name a word that I have not commanded him to speak or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet must die....when the prophet speaks in the name of Jehovah and the word does not occur or come true, that is the word that Jehovah did not speak. With presumptousness the prophet spoke it. You must not get frightened at him" -

I read The Bible Fraud by Tony Bushby a few years ago and very quickly realised that it was, frankly, trash scholarship. He is way out there in the far leftfield of bible criticism, so way out there that no recognised bible scholar (atheist or Christian) gives him the time of day. He mixes a few facts with lots of wild speculative and bizarre theorizing in a thoroughly biased attempt to discredit the bible.
Try again Terry. -

I simply faded and never got hassled by any elders, ever, although it was probably a lot to do with the fact that I moved a few times & changed phone numbers. That certainly helps a lot in getting out of their radar range.
I feel absolutely no need or desire to DA myself. Just can't see what is the point of playing by their own nasty little rules. If any elders contacted me out of the blue then I would simply politely and firmly tell them that I wish to be left alone and request they do not contact me again. If they then disfellowship me without a JC then so be it. Feck em. -

Were you ever a victim of jealousy?
by Frequent_Fader_Miles inwere you ever a victim of jealousy in the congregation?
j-dubs love to portray their gatherings as a "spiritual paradise", while in truth and in fact they're actually more like a "cain and abel" sitcom.

Heaps of brothers were jealous of me because I was rather popular with some sisters, being intelligent with a fun sense of humour and kinda cute too (if I do say so myself) yet I couldn't give the elders and miserable servants the time of day, being a bit of a rebel. Sisters either seemed to go for the organisationally ambitious, good-boy types (pioneers, elders, MS school graduates) or those who liked to walk the line a bit like me. But most of the time I just scared the brothers away by the sheer force of my personality. Hehe those were the days.
Now I'm approaching middle-age and suffering from career retardation and stunted relationship development due to a life-time of responsibility avoidance stemming from the firm belief that end of the system was near. -

Society developing anti-apostate software for JW's computers
by yaddayadda inheard a rumour that the society is working on an 'anti-apostate' software programme for jw's to purchase thru the congregation and instal on their home pc's to block access to apostate websites.
it will be based on standard anti-porn software and on the 500 most commonly used words on apostate websites.
(sucker)

Tee shirt with foolish WT quotes, I will wear to reunion with witnesses
by dawg inas many of you know, i've been writing letters to family members telling them how damn stupid i think the gb is; providing proofs of all their comedic gaffs (building mansions for prophets and the like) including some of their most outlandish quotes-which i know all of us can remember verbatim.
spurned on by mary and others in this site, i've decided that i will try a new ploy.
my family reunion is every labor day and i've decided to wear a tee shirt to it with russell, rutherford, and franz's images on it... i will include images of a pyramid, beth sarim, on the front and 607?

It's fascinated me to see older ones in other churches I've visited who still seem to have that gleam in their eyes, that vivaciousness and joy somehow. I think the reason is because their joy is in Jesus Christ and not in the 'end of the system'. Many other religions hope that Jesus will return soon but they do not constantly harp on about the end of the world like the JW's do. The reason for many older JW's being so clapped out and morose is because their focus has been all wrong. JW's are entirely focused on working hard to earn life in an earthly paradise which is always so very near, whereas most other Christians find their worship refreshing because it is focused on the person of Jesus and trying to imitate his love and kindness, etc, so when he returns is just a side point.

Why did you want to be an elder?
by ThomasCovenant ini'm curious to know reasons for wanting to be an elder?.
some have expressed to me they wanted to use their abilities to help others.. another said he wanted to be in the inner circle to make sure he was able to look after his families' interests in the event of any future mishaps by his children.. i think many just get caught in the web of handling microphones, then ministerial servant then elder.. i know it's easy for me to say as i wasn't any of these (apart from microphones) but .
i can't help thinking for most men it is simply helping to fulfill a desire for more power.. many don't seem content to be viewed as a mere publisher but want to get in on the action, knowing all the gossip and being involved on decisions.. is it true that deep down, even though most may have good motives, it is still out of a feeling of self importance.. thanks .

I never wanted to be one in reality because of all the responsibility and I'd seen a lot of younger guys burn out, but the prestige aspect really appealed because I'd known a few dweeby elders who managed to get quite hot sisters simply because they had the status of being an elder and could give decent talks. A lot of sisters (the librarian types who were foxes underneath) only seemed interested in organisationally ambitious types.
