I'm going to order Stafford's book. That essay was like a breath of fresh air. Despite what you make of his dubious parallels between the ancient Israelites, Rev 2,3, and the JW's, he has made a very prescient observation - that the time is coming when those more loyal to the bible than the Watchtower Society will have to break off and start their own group. That day is definitely coming although it appears to be a looong way off (decades).
I echo the sentiment that there are many redeeming things about the JW'S, particularly their rejection of most of the ridiculous dogmas taught by mainstream christianity. The problem is that the power wielding control-freaks on the GB at the top are clinging on to a number of false teachings, burdensome works programmes, and harmful policies that are depressing the organisation.
I havn't given up hope for reform, although it may not even come in my lifetime, but I think men like Greg Staff should be applauded by not throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Love him or hate him, men like him are exactly what the organisation needs.

How do I ensure I don't miss any real JW news?
by yaddayadda ini've decided to end my addiction and only visit this site once a week because it is eating into too much of my time and i want to get out there and engage with the real world and 'real people' more.
i'm sick of living a virtual existence.
so what is the best way of ensuring i don't miss anything interesting in the jw-world on this site, and i mean such things as new directives from brooklyn, 'new light', policy changes, changes to the meetings, new releases, reports on assemblies & conventions, gb personnel changes, and such-like.

Ie, real news, not fluff and opinion. How can I find such news once a week without having to scan through so many posts on here that build up over the course of a week. Can that be done?
Just checking the 'active topics' doesn't seem to be the answer as a lot of fluff and nonsense ends up on there. And some very newsworthy posts gets put up on the 'friends' board when it should really go up on the 'Beliefs, doctrines and practices' board. And other sites that aim to provide this kind of information often miss important/interesting news.
How about the site starting up a 'JW news' board that is used only for news of official happenings and changes in the organisation. I think the site is crying out for that. Anyone else agree with me.

Fascinating. I'd like to know exactly how Newton arrived at 2060. He is probably a lot closer to the truth than the Watchtower Society's constant wishfully thinking that the end is so very close now.
This would be good for JW's to hear out about because Newtown didn't believe in the Trinity so they might be inclined not to dismiss this information so quickly.
Interestingly, the author of the following website says the end will be around 2073. He mentions the JW's and quotes from C.T. Russell's writings:

What is puzzling is why would they reduce the length of the Public Talk and not reduce the TMS and SM during the week? More JW's skip the week meetings than the weekend meeting!
Answer: they will soon announce changes to the weekly meetings also.
If this rumour is true, then it is more evidence that the organisation is contracting/shrinking.
They have been rationalising costs and magazine/book production and it would be no surprise if they enter a phase of rationalising the meetings. This is probably the beginning of a trend we will see play out over the next decade or so as the Society combats the rapidly declining meeting attendances in the Western world.
More and more JW's are less willing to devote so much time and energy to an organisation that takes, takes, takes but gives nothing back but empty promises and failed prophesies. More and more JW's are disillusioned and disaffected and skipping meetings. What to do about it? Reduce the load on the rank and file by reducing the length of the meetings and eventually dropping one of the week meetings altogether.
I am positive that the Society will before too long reduce the length of the main weekly meeting and eventually they will reduce the bookstudy to 30 mins and move it to a Saturday morning prior to field service.
It shows where the Society's priorities lie when they keep reducing the duration of the 'public talk' but keep their precious Watchtower study the same length. When a business cannot attract new customers anymore it's best strategy is to work harder to ensure it preserves it's existing customer base. And since JW's are basically just Watchtower worshippers God forbid that they would ever see a reduction in studying the food provided by God's fine channel.

Music buffs. Here we go again. List you're all-time favorite Guitarists
by flipper inhello ya'll.
was just listening to great guitar music from some of my favorites.
who are your all time favorites?

Jimmi Hendrix was, technically, by far and away the best of his generation, but without a doubt STEVE VAI is regarded by most professional guitarists of the genre as currently the best of the best. Vai is even more gifted than his former teacher Joe Satriani.
Vai's albums are de rigueur for instrumental rock purists.
