Not that I'd want to, but can you have a White or Caucasian Heritage event without minorities having a temper tantrum
First of all, practically the entire world has embraced Western (read White, if you want to give it a colour) Heritage and either live their lives by it or aspire for more of it: democracy, MacDonalds, western philosophy, capitalism etc ... This heritage is pervasive and to me it would seem pointless to set up a day or month to celebrate it , as it would be like celebrating the achievements of the entire planet! Let's not forget that these achievements are cummulative and were built on the achievement of other, older civilizations: Indian (numbers, kama sutra), Chinese (gunpowder, noodles), Semitic - arab, jews etc (guitar, mathematics, philosophy, astronomy, the scriptures, ..), African (pyramids, egyptian art & hieroglyhps, music -jazz, rock, R&B) This list is not exclusive.
It is only natural, in a world increasingly liberalised that the people who have been oppresed for whatever reason through history want to express that they too have contributed something to these achievements and be recognised. What is the harm in that?
If there was a Prussian Heritage Day, a Black Heritage Day, an Indian or Arabic Heritage Day I would gladly go and embrace these cultures. But it would be a different matter if there was a Prussian Supremacy Day, a Black Superiority Day or an Arabic Superiority Day.
In our minds and hearts we owe it to ourselves to distinguish between these two types of celebrations and not let a dogma of supremacy mar the rich world heritage that has come from its various cultures throughout history.
I've said my peace ...

Is it possible that a child molester is NOT a pedophile?
by sir82 ini realize many here have (unfortunately) much more experience with this sort of thing than i do.
any personal insight, or direction to research material, would be appreciated.. there was a letter to all boes about 8-10 years ago, saying that if an appointed elder had any incidents of child abuse in his history, he had to step forward & admit such, so that his status as an elder could be reviewed.
none of the elders in this congregation said anything.. it was later (maybe 5 years ago) discovered that one of the elders had sexually abused his daughters some time in the 80's, before his appointment.

LadyLee, words would lack and fail to describe the horror that you must have gone through as such a young person and how I felt inside on reading your courageous post! You must be such a strong person to have waded through all that and stand here tall and dignified to tell us about it. You make all of us strenghten our resolve not to descend to our debased instincts but to rise above them. As I've posted elsewhere, men are pigs. Even if sometimes we manage to hide the snorts and disguise the smell .... So sorry.

Here's a spanner in the works:
I wonder is anyone here has read 'The Naked Ape' by Desmond Morris? If so, they'll be able to see the connection between what he says and this topic.
He maintains that modern man (as in humandkind) has kept a lot of the attibutes of the ape and use them to deal with the modern world and re sex he says the male prefers nubile young women because of their better health and their reproductive potential (as per natural selection).
He also maintains the females sub-consciously seek male association & bear more flesh around the time they are most fertile and sleep around in order to increase the chances that their offspring carries a better blend of genes. Females prefer older more powerful mature men because of the resources they provide for her and her offsprings. All this is carried over from the ape world into the modern ape world.
Morris maintains that observing human behaviour in this regard it is evident that the modern world has advanced far more quickly than our basic physiology (despite losing our body air and using moisturiser!) and we are still using old evolutionary instints amd approaches that are at odds with the modern world and what's expected of it.
Some of the comments from various sides in this thread doesn't contradict any of this.
There's a lot more to this, but as an aid I'll quote from this paper on the web:
According to Desmond Morris (1967), this took place along with the switch from front-to-rear to front-to-front mating, the pendulous shape and cleavage of the breasts mimicking the pre-existing attractiveness of the female buttocks. This also, according to the theory, explains why men find other pendulous shapes (like ear lobes) and other cleavages (like toes in low-vamped shoes) such a turn-on.
And while we're on the subject, what other female attributes turn men on? Gentlemen prefer young, nubile women, with lips like rubies, eyes like limpid pools, skin like silk, breasts like a milch cow, and legs like a race horse.
According to evolutionary theory, this is not the result of either Hollywood or Madison Avenue, but because all of these features have served as cues to a female's health, reproductive potential and sexual availability over the course of human evolutionary history. Evolution has built into every red-blooded male a desire to find "Pornotopia"--the fantasy land where "sex is sheer lust and physical gratification, devoid of more tender feelings and encumbering relationships, in which women are always aroused, or at least easily arousable, and ultimately are always willing" (Symons, p. 171).
The entire cosmetics, fashion, and pornography industries are attempts to create Pornotopia here on Earth.

Maybe the words of this song sheds some light on this predicament. It touches on the fear we have in a relationship of taking a step or not as the case may be and losing the one we love as a result. Chis Martin's lyrics really boils it down to the essentials!
Coldplay X&Y - What If?
What if there was no lie Nothing wrong, nothing right What if there was no time And no reason, or rhyme What if you should decide That you don't want me there by your side That you don't want me there in your life What if I got it wrong And no poet or song Could put right what I got wrong Or make you feel I belong What if you should decide That you don't want me there by your side That you don't want me there in you life Ooh ooh-ooh, that's right Let's take a breath, try to hold it inside Ooh ooh-ooh, that's right How can you know it, if you don't even try Ooh ooh-ooh, that's right Every step that you take Could be your biggest mistake It could bend or it could break That's the risk that you take What if you should decide That you don't want me there in your life That you don't want me there by your side Ooh ooh-ooh, that's right Let's take a breath, try to hold it inside Ooh ooh-ooh, that's right How can you know when you don't even try Ooh ooh-ooh, that's right
If you don't have this album I recommend you get it or let me know and I'll email you this song.

or do you find it easy to just get on with it?

I started this thread with a quote from ColdPlay X&Y - Square One song and we've had so many interesting contributions that I forgot to add the foll. too which I think is relevant:
Coldplay X&Y - The Hardest Part
And the hardest part Was letting go, not taking part Was the hardest part And the strangest thing Was waiting for that bell to ring It was the strangest start I could feel it go down Bittersweet, I could taste in my mouth Silver lining the cloud Oh and I I wish that I could work it out And the hardest part Was letting go, not taking part You really broke my heart And I tried to sing But I couldn't think of anything And that was the hardest part I could feel it go down You left the sweetest taste in my mouth You're a silver lining the clouds Oh and I Oh and I I wonder what it's all about I wonder what it's all about Everything I know is wrong Everything I do, it's just comes undone And everything is torn apart Oh and it's the part That's the hardest part Yeah that's the hardest part That's the hardest part
Coldplay X&Y - Talk
[..] Are you lost or incomplete? Do you feel like a puzzle, you can't find your missing piece? Tell me how do you feel? Well I feel like they're talking in a language I don't speak And they're talking it to me [..] So you don't know were you're going, and you wanna talk And you feel like you're going where you've been before You tell anyone who'll listen but you feel ignored Nothing's really making any sense at all [..]
Coldplay X&Y - Fix You
[..] When you try your best, but you don't succeed When you get what you want, but not what you need When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep Stuck in reverse When the tears come streaming down your face When you lose something you can't replace When you love someone, but it goes to waste Could it be worse? [..]
If you don't have this album I recommend you get it. Or if you contact me I may be able to email you these songs.

My Dear Ballistic, any young woman, good looking or not, may have men waiting in the wings. When it comes to sex, most women can get it if they want it and as many times as they want it.
Sounds like the voice of experience! But I quite agree. Sex is generally more available to women then to men, despite that most men think its the other way round! Having said that ... it doesn't leave much room for maneuvre for us (the unfair sex!?) does it! Puppets on strings? Playthings? Its down to the willingness of both parties to stay faithful to each other ...
Computing probability of said outcome for a random couple in a population distribution skewed by depressed male self esteem ... wait ... wait ... wait ... _
We are all f*cked aren't we? Don't worry I'm not mad or anything, its just that I have delayed accepting the obvious until now. Perhaps this forum is a good place to admit that and do something about it! What exactly remains to be worked out ...
