The planet of the apes was about racism on an extremely unbelievable scale. Remember the white man was the minority; and the white race was considered dumb, ignorant, unable to learn, and barbaric. So, I'm thinking that a lot of people that bought the Planet of The Apes were, probably, into movies about black people and/or racism. They should of put "American History X" on there too. That movie was something else!

Lifesavers story . . . Jehovah's Witness love and honesty . . . missing
by garybuss innever have i been more aware of the lengths that the watch tower society was willing to go to maintain their donations and their control of us witnesses than i was at the district assembly in bismarck nd in 1975. this is where i began to doubt my acceptance level of the doctrine called the doctrine called the "theocratic war strategy" (tws).
that is, the viewpoint that says it is all right to lie to jehovah's enemies.
(see aid and insight under lie).

I was diagnosed with Panic Disorder while in the truth. I thought that I was the only one having this problem. I would start getting heart palpitations, choking sensations, visible tremor, and a fear that something terrible was about to happen. I would want to get up and run out of the Kingdom Hall. I thought, I'm losing my mind. I saw a commercial on TV about depression and some study that they were doing, so off I went to this doctor. He said you don't have depression, you have something else. He told me that it could be treated, and he sent me off to another psychiatrist. Do I need to tell you what going to a psychiatrist means to black people? It means you're "psycho", "crazy", "lost your marbles", "missing a few screws",.... But I was ready to accept the fact that I was "crazy" (panic attacks are no fun). I went to the doctor and got treatment (medication). I would always refuse to go to the therapist, though. The witnesses didn't believe in psychotherapy (hmph). I wonder why? Anyway, after that brother spanked my babie's leg that made something snap! I was like, I'm outta here. I didn't go to the meetings anymore. I still believed in Jehovah (tying it to the organization in my brain), which leads to my current predicament...
Anyway, I feel you on the kid disciplining stuff!

A New Trend for JW Baby Boomers?
by NYCkid ini'm sure this topic has come up before but i'm new here :-) since many of us are offspring of the baby boomer generation or of a generation earlier, i've noticed a trend.
my parents and their siblings who largely grew up as witnesses are now entering or have entered retirement age.
although my parents were generally hard working and responsible people, they have little retirement savings.

How can I put this? When I was still "witness possessed", which was only a few months ago, I took care of a couple of elderly, JW, female patients. They would always have their NWT laying at the bedside. I never did mention to them that I was an ex-witness. I noticed that this one patient never seemed to be getting any visitors, so I told my twin daughters. They set it up for her to get visits from the "brothers and sisters". Neither of these women got many visitors, I do believe that they were receiving health care benefits through Social Security. One of the women had been disabled from one of the diseases that the society said not to get a vaccination for. One ended up going to a not-so-good nursing home. The other one, her children did, finally, come and get her and take her home. I don't think that her children were witnesses.
Yep, you're right. It's going to be a problem for many.

Shunning
by sass_my_frass ini've had a bit of a breakthrough in realising that the disfellowshipping has achieved the exact opposite of what it was supposed to; it was supposed make me see the seriousness of my error and want to return, but it has instead made me see that if it is actually a big deal, it's god who forgives, not these guys, and it's driven me completely away.
they think that holding to ransom my relationships with old friends and relatives will make it worth the struggle, but... to be honest i don't want conditional love from anybody.
i think i'll eventually feel an occasional background sadness over three good friends i'll never see again, and i'll miss that history we had together.

It has driven me completely away, too; but I can't give up on my kids. I think that they are being blinded by the society. Also, from reading "The Best of" section, I learned that this could, possibly, be a stage that my children are going through. I know that my oldest rebelled against the religion, didn't take to it at all. She went the opposite direction. I was, constantly, trying to keep her out of trouble. She did, eventually, settle down. Of course, she's more than delighted that I have come to my senses in that I no longer believe in that religion. I didn't give up on my oldest. So, I can't give up on my twins. I hope to always love my girls and to be there for them when they need me or want me. Edited to say: The best of section story that I read was "Shattered Faith".

Mother is in a Pentecostal religion. She was always "fasting and praying" for her children. Lot's of time, I think she would fast with tea, chicken broth, and water. I don't know if it helped us children be any better, but it did seem to make her feel better.
When we were sick, another belief of hers was to rub us down with olive oil that had been prayed over. As you know, olive oil is becoming one of the main ingredients in many lotions. Must have been something to it?

AckAck it's true. Read what's above and below the test.
This statement was above the test:
Claim: An 1895 graduation examination for public school students demonstrates a shocking decline in educational standards. Status: False.

Anyone take up smoking after leaving the borg?
by AK - Jeff ini still consider it a bad habit with health concerns.
but i am honestly attracted to the idea of a pipe and cherry tobacco.. i have joked of it some with wifey, but not too serious.

I started smoking about 3 years ago. It's very calming. At the time, I was very stressed out. Now, I am a confirmed smoker. I don't care if the witnesses see me smoking. Hell! I'm grown! My kids asked me how would you feel if we started smoking? I told them that if they wanted to start smoking at the age of 42 it would be fine with me.
I didn't smoke when I was pregnant or when they were children. That's good enough. IMHO
