((((((GRacey))))))
Thank you for sharing so much. I know that must have taken a lot for you to share this much.
I too had a close friend whose mom knew her daughters were being abused by her husband and yet she turned a blind eye to it! I don't understand that depth of denial. That is a very sad person who cannot defend their own child. I am so sorry you had to live like that.
It's only natural that this experience has molded you somewhat. We all carry baggage from our upbringing. When you add the JW cult stuff it only amplifies any problems that were there already. You are smart to have left when you did. You have your whole life ahead of you. We are here for you.

Well they FINALLY CALLED!!!!
by Lady Liberty inyou have asked me to keep you posted as to what happens here regarding the elders return.
as many of you know, we have been waiting for over 2 months for any kind of word back from them.
i kept telling my husband, " you would think that they would at least call, and say they haven't forgotten about us, that they are doing the research they promised to do.

LL - well they are building there case against you. It's amazing how my dad and stepmom both told us months ago that "NO elders come after you for having questions about date stuff!" and now my dad and her are seeing first hand how the wheels have started churning back where we moved from, in order to build a case against us. Bethel and the some elders know the 607 stuff is B.S.! ( have you read Crisis of Conscience yet by Ray Franz?) Your description is exactly what I told my dad the first time we spoke about things. I said "I feel like I've stumbled onto something that I wasn't supposed to know about and they will take me down if I share this with anyone!" I am more than willing to share this info. with people but due to circumstances in my life I am trying to avoid DFing for one person. things may change down the road shortly though.
My dad talked with my hubby yesterday about the latest developments amongst our BOE's back home. (he is like our spy - it's great!) But I told him I have more info. on how the Society misrepresented Grayson's words in the Insight book (thanks LL!) and he wants a copy ASAP! He said to my hubby - "ya know, if all this stuff isn't true and I decide to not follow it anymore, I need to have all my proof here so that I can help others as well!" WOW!!!! we were floored. He's still going to meetings, and wants to be reappointed as an elder but he is slowly seeing things for what they really are. This was from a man who 2 months ago was begging us just to fade quietly so my brother and sister would still talk to us. Now he's starting to understand why it's SO HARD to not DEFEND yourself when you're pushed into a corner!
GOOD LUCK!
WE have an awesome recording of Rick Townsends JC and it deals with 607 stuff. I'll try to find the link for you.... -

Welcome Noni!
glad you joined in on the board. I have some family that shun and some that don't. It's so hard to deal with the shunners.
I hope you stick around. You are very right though. It's so much better than living a lie.

we've all had those phone calls. It's SOOO HARD to not speak your mind when you are pushed into a corner. If you don't want to be called before a JC just deny anything she might say to the elders. There weren't "two witnesses" to your phone call. -

Hotel Discounts, at conventions. Oh how we fooled ourselves!
by free2beme ini honestly thought, when i was a witness, that there was a special discount at hotels when i went to them at conventions.
not just a simple special that can be given to anyone, but rather an extra special discount that was negotiated with the watchtower society.
well that is not the case, i used to work in the hotel industry for a short while and we did conventions for everyone from religious organizations to clubs.

the last few hotels we had to stay in for DC's, were DISGUSTING! I told hubby we would never stay in a hotel off the list anymore, and that was even before I realized the truth about "the truth!"

A question on " 1975 "
by The ini was reading some of the first " topics " on this db and i noticed that a few former elders and publishers .
were stumbled by this date.... i was born after 1975 and i'd really appreciate any comments from brothers and sisters who were around .
what i've noticed from personal experience is that many brothers and sisters feel that only " a few " were stumbeled .

I was born in 1974 and I have heard my mother say that when she was pregnant with me, witnesses made comments to her in the effect of "how could you be having a baby! we could be in concentration camps next year!" my mom just laughs about it now. so weird.
I do think a lot of the hype depended on individual congregations. Where the society never said the exact words "it's 1975" they made plenty of hype and suggestion to the R&F. -

Sleeping at assemblies and conventions
by free2beme inmy in-laws still attend meetings and defend the faith to the best of their limited ability.
i saw limited, as their understanding of the faith ended somewhere around the 1980's and when you bring up new understanding, they think it might be apostate and do not listen.
there not alone, trust me, several witnesses do not grasp the changes.
