i pulled that from another topic because it reminded me of something my mother said to me just before i married my husband.
first let me say that my mother doesnt like my husband.
her dislike for my husband has tempered over the years but it's still there.
WOW! CHL - I have a very good friend who had the same situation with a witness mom.....weird, not-gettin-any old JW moms!
I do think many witnesses marry the wrong person and way too young JUST for sex. I've seen it time and again. And then when they realize there mistake they can't get out of the marriage unless they commit "fornication!"

this will be my first christmas.
i'm not doing anything corny, no tree, no bigass fluoro santa.
just joining my new (husband's) family at their xmas gig - tacky presents for the kids, lots of food, stories by the old folk.
I'm glad to hear Christmas was a little weird for some of you when you first started! I am kind of coming around to this idea, but I'm also pretty staunch in not doing ANYTHING again that doesn't feel right to me. whether that be religion, holidays, or voting (just some examples). I too have kids, who have never celebrated so I would like to try it for them. My oldest is 7 and I think it may bother her conscience at first. She's very into doing what pleases god still - the JW version on pleasing! We'll probably work into it slowly....this has been a great thread for me to read!
ok, i got a call tonight from an old friend i knew years ago when i lived in another city.
i haven't seen him for 18 years although we have had occassional contact.
he's coming in to toronto next week and wants to know if we can get together to catch up.
Mary, this is a tough one, but I have to tell you I was the caller a few weeks ago and a very good friend of mine from years ago was on the other end.
He was in the same position as you and he didn't know I was having doubts about being a JW. I am SOOO glad he decided to see me that day and talk!
Maybe you can feel your friend out a bit more, and see if you can pick up any more info.......
You just never know what he has in mind meeting with you....

Well let's hope you gave him something to think about, unfortunately I think your brilliance is wasted on many JW minds.
One things for sure, he will probably NEVER ask you again what you thought of the WT study! He'll probably steer way clear of you next time you enter the kingdom hall! ha ha ha

The first time I saw it - it was funny, but leaving the theater it was also a feeling of - what the hell was that? I think I have seen it like 10 more times since then - it gets funnier everytime.

I'm curious if those in your cong who did go to college and remarked that it was hard to get to meetings etc... were they telling the congregation that it was something they had to work on as Witnesses (the way other witnesses have struggles too)or
were they saying that it was a reason not to choose college
I believe they were trying to say these were reasons NOT to go to college. Even though, they still went!
Some were more rational in their comments and said things like meditating on our REAL motivations for college....just to get rich or to further kingdom interests. It's so hard for the genuine people who see the wisdom in college yet have the brainwashed idea that college is ALL EVIL!

Be careful, those of us that were drawn to the WTS for it's addictive qualities can easily replace that with such things as alcohol, drugs, sex, posting excessively on a JWD website...etc...
