Now, now, now, nvr ... maybe he was talking about his bowels? Maybe he calls his bowels "faith" and he is loosing them? I mean, we don't want to be too judgmental, do we?

Is this the BEST of all POSSIBLE WORLDS? Depends on this...!
by Terry inif humanity were created by a supreme being who was essentially good wouldn't this be the best of all possible worlds?.
both adam and eve lacked what they desired most.
how is that the best of all possible worlds?.

Actually, I'm presenting more of a Muslim view of God.
Challenging Christians to explain a Muslim view of God seems especially misguided to me. Since I do not subscribe to the view of God you are espousing, I will refrain from playing your game by your undeclared rules.
I am not into playing Terryball. You clearly had one objective in this thread: to win your argument at any cost, even to logic or coherency. Twist as you will.

Do you really want to save us?
by nvrgnbk inthis is for the christians.. let's put our swords away.. try to convince those of us that have lost our faith to accept jesus christ and all that that acceptance entails.. pretend that our lives( eternal) depend on it.. that's what you believe isn't it?.
this is an opportunity to win souls for christ.. yes.
things may get heated.

Okay, nvrgnbk, I'll save you buddy. What are friends for, eh?
The form of worship that is pure [undefiled] is to care for those who cannot care for themselves, and to do so out of motivation by love, while having faith and believing that what you are doing will work out well for that person. This doesn't mean just clothing them, feeding them, and getting them needed medical care; it also means teaching them, honoring and dignifying them as humans, helping them learn to lift themselves up from a condition where they need so much help, and providing opportunities for them to rise up with dignity and self-respect.
How's that? Do any believers or non-believers disagree, or do we have cross-boundary concensus on these points?
Now that that's settled, how about another "Car Bomb" tonight, if I can get the night off?

From 1918 to 1922, Rutherford gave a talk, internationally, entitled, "The World Has Ended—Millions Now Living Will Never Die."
(1) The world had not ended.
(2) If the current JW dogma is correct, only about 1,000 or so who were at least babies at that time will actually still be alive at Armageddon.
However, in Jehovah's Witnesses: Proclaimers of God's Kingdom Jehovah's Witnesses correctly state that this outrightly false prophecy, and the complementary book marketing campaign, was responsible for tripling their adherents over a four year. Without this false prophecy the movement would have shriveled and died an early death, never having poisoned my family.
I think this lie was the greatest marketing campaign they have ever had.

Ask him: "In 1918 there was a talk given by J.F. Rutherford entitled, 'The World Has Ended—Millions Now Living Will Never Die'; was that the truth or a lie?"

Expect me to bookmark this thread for your later amusement, Joker10.
What a joker you are! A number of other religions post increases in baptized believers, they don't just count propaganda parrots like your religion does.

Let's Keep The E-Focus on Barbara's CD - Important
by AK - Jeff ini have been sworn to secrecy on a couple of matters that will soon be evident in this regard.
sorry to be 'cryptic' here - but timing is everything when one is trying to bring the very serious [and often ignored in the press] matter of child sexual abuse to the fore.
with barbara anderson's permission, i reproduce part of pages 66 to 68 here for discussion..

They were forbidden from revealing the results of their investigations to law enforcement authorities, but would report the results of their investigation to the Watchtower Legal Department.
Since they report the results outside the clerical body, aren't there states in which the communication loses its privileged status?

Untolerable, Unheard of and down right Unbelievable experiences
by REBORNAGAIN inhas anyone experienced something really outrageous among the jw's that you want to share?.
we once had a couple of jw's follow us (policeing us) as we were on our way to my (then, he's now my ex) husband's boss's home.
his boss wanted us over for an end of the year party and didn't consider it a christmas party because he knew we didn't celebrate christmas.

I wasn't allowed to work handling props on a drama with my grandfather because a group of elders started gossip about me regarding misremembered events some eight years prior. Once the talk got started these same elders went to the CO to challenge me for "fitness" to be on the stage while my name was "under reproach."
Asses.
I had an elder tell me he thought I was lying when I claimed to be too sick to go to the meetings. I told him I didn't like to speak about it but that the Government apparently believed I really was sick, since they sent me an SSI check every month (back then I was clinically diagnosed with CFS and my mom had to help bathe me). He said he didn't believe me. I had to show him the check stub to get him to back off.
An elder once told me to "dumb down" my comments. Seems his counsel was in line with the current direction of the organization if the September KM is any example.

They lied when they said that the Faithful and Discreet Slave was a class made up of only faithful adherents to a particular religion and that this group served as God's sole channel of communication to the world.
They lied when they said salvation can only be possible through a single organization.
They lied when they said regular meeting attendance was vital for spiritual growth.
They lied when they said they, as an organization, have Christian love for one another.
They lied when they told me they never joined the UN/DPI, but that they merely registered.
They lied when they wrote that there is no evidence concretely ruling out 607 BC as the date for the fall of Jerusalem.
They lied when they told me, through the book Survival Into a New Earth, that everyone who is not a baptized Jehovah's Witness but is of an age of accountability will be destroyed at Armageddon.
They lied when they told my father that he would never have the time to achieve a successful career in this system because the end was so close.
They lied when they told my grandfather that pursuing fleshly things like a family and a lucrative career were wasted efforts since God would soon destroy this world and bring in a new one.
They lied when they told my great-grandfather that millions living then would never die.
They lie every time they claim the name Christian, since they do not even proclaim the kingdom of Christ, much less permit a personal relationship with the one they call King, savior, redeemer, High Priest, and teacher. They don't even allow their adherents to speak with this central figure of Christianity.
They lie when they claim authority from God.
They lie when they claim their paltry organizational growth is due to God's blessing, but the phenomenal organizational growth of other religions is due to Satan's influence.
They lie when they claim that all those they count are active proclaimers of God's word and kingdom—we well know that all they count are active reporters of time and placements, they do not know the contents of the message carried by individual publishers or even whether the reports are legitimate. They nowhere list the numbers of baptized publishers versus unbaptized publishers, though they no doubt have this information.
Yes, they specifically lie.

It is referred to as a "diagram" now, apparently, instead of an "insert". Thanks, Gopher, for unearthing it again.
Is the Work of Jehovah's Witnesses Propagandistic?
The CD ROM has it included (thanks, V) as a box within the article "The Manipulation of Information", a box which includes a DOOZY of information manipulation. The World Book Encyclopedia states:
Propaganda is one-sided communication designed to influence people's thinking and actions. A television commercial or a poster urging people to vote for a political candidate might be propaganda, depending on its method of persuasion.
Propaganda differs from education in democratic societies. But education in a dictatorship can involve teaching children and youth by techniques that could be classified as propaganda. Educators in democratic societies teach people how to think, but propagandists tell them what to think. Most educators are willing to change their opinions on the basis of new evidence, but propagandists ignore evidence that contradicts them. Educators present all sides of an issue and encourage debate. Propagandists build the strongest possible case for their views and discourage discussion. The highlighted portion is the bit they quoted from the World Book Encyclopedia.
At the same time, the work of the Witnesses is educational. Using the Bible as a basis, they teach people worldwide to reason on Bible principles and thereby develop right standards of conduct and moral integrity. They promote values that improve family life and help young people cope with their peculiar challenges. They also help people to find the strength to overcome bad habits and to develop the ability to get along with others. Such a work would hardly be termed “propaganda.” As The World Book Encyclopedia says, in a climate where ideas circulate freely, “propaganda differs from education.”
This implies that the World Book Encyclopedia agrees that their work would not be considered propaganda and would be considered education; which could only be true if (1) the religion is a democratic society and (2) they teach people how to think instead of teaching people what to think.
Since their own publications make it perfectly clear that they are interested in teaching people what to think and are interested in punishing people who think otherwise and since they are grossly misusing information, they are propagandists.
