I was reading a post today about the kingdom songs we sang as JW's.

i was thinking about the kingdom songs we sang as jw's and was wondering about you posters out there that are ex-jw's or still jw's what was you all time favorite "kingdom song" or what was you all time horrible song that we sang from both songbooks (1966 songbook or the later songbook made in 1984 sing praises to jehovah.

my favorite song was song #119 in the 1966 songbook "keep your eyes on the prize".

i like this song because it made me feel that armaggeddon was coming fast and the "new system" would be here to give me the prize.

It has been years, but the one that stuck in my brain was, "Kiss the son lest God be angry and you perish in the way" taken from Psalm 2 I believe. Most of them were very lame.I do remember Shulamite Maiden now that you mention it. I remember one that had a Hawiian thing behind it and made us giggle every time.Can't remember anything else about it.They must have added some since I left, is that possible?(I left in 80-81)

My so-called life

hello everyone..i just wanted to introduce myself and tell you a little bit about my experiences.. i'm 23, have been raised in the truth all my life.

when i was 18, i made a foolish decision to get married, something i knew deep down i wasn't ready for, still being very much in the 'bloom of youth'.

i reluctantly saw my future as being one of jehovahs witnesses and with all my adolescent drives, i moved away from home to marry a man with about the same maturity as me.

SassFrass really has some great suggestions. Once you dispel the "voodoo" that is put on certain things, you'll realize demons aren't in them waiting to jump out and take you over. There are still inherent dangers out there, but you now have some healthy skepticism to help you deal with them. Not everyone outside the JWs is healthy & whole either! You'll find people out here who don't have great social skills too. Like everyone has said, "Stick around!" "This is just the beginning!" " Welcome!"

Evolution or creation.....

i know what i was taught from the witnesses in the book evolution or creation,but is this an accurate portrayal of what evolutionists believe?

is it really that black or white?

evolution, meaning that god didn't have a plan, things just happened, or creation,god created adam, the first man?

Interesting embellishment of my experience with the lady, turning her into a "little old" lady. Nice imagery-but incorrect. You then ask ME why GOD picks and chooses...it might help if you think a little bit about the concept of GOD.

There are thousands of scientists that believe in an intelligent designer...it is a valid premise, even if you don't agree.

Your kind suggestion as to why I "don't kill myself and shed my earthly shell" shows me you know little of the Bible. Sorry, not fair to discuss this with an unarmed man.

I understand you don't have a fairy Godfather to grant you "wishes", I don't either. But I do have a compassionate Father, who does what he does for me according to what will bring out the best end. That may not be what you understand as best, but then you are not God. I do hope you get to meet him though-you'll be very surprised to find out who he really is.

The end of the matter is, "The natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness unto him; neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned"

My first topic, my struggles with the dubs.

first and formost i'd like to say thankyou to everyone who has ever posted here before, your posts have made me laugh, cry smile and frown.

up until about two weeks ago, i was nervous about posting here, tonight, at 5:04am as i write this, i am no longer so, the fact of the matter is, i really don't give a damn as to whether or not someone in the local congrigation reads this or not.

i'm not a jw, i never have been, and barring getting really steamingly drunk for a good few years on the trot or suffering some other similarly catastrophic brain trauma, i never will be.

This must be totally devestating. My mom did the same thing to my father, in that she returned after the first child was born.

My immediate advice is, don't contribute to making her a martyr. Love her all you can.It probably won't be long before she wearies of it again. Something will come up, and she needs to have you to lean on. Especially work on your relationship with your children, otherwise they will become estranged, and will believe anything told to them about you.

We're all here for you.

was "in" from 1963 to 1980 due to parental "guidance" beyond my own good sense.. have been to elder school, bethel, wthq, etc..., knew many of franz heretics in the mid-late 70 trouble from oklahoma city.. have many silly stories to offer...but for now just will say this - .

if your "god" was really going to come down here and kill everybody on earth except for the wt people who the society liked, would you not stand up to fly the first fighter jet against such a horrible alien?.

Interestingly, there are people (who are not JWs) who believe that is exactly what the walking dead will think & do when The Lord shows up! And that all the interest & promotion of alien stuff is the set-up.

Overactive Celebrating

i have found that since i was denied celebrating holidays as a child, i am like a kid when it comes to celebrating.

the holidays are so magical to me, and i always celebrate in a big way for all of them.

it's still new to me and i have so much fun with it.

Absolutely! When you realize you are not worshipping the tree, and don't know anyone who does, the discovery begins. Contrary to what JWs told us, even other Christian denominations have different ideas about these holidays. I let the kids trick or treat when they were small, but as time wore on , I got less and less enthused with that particular holiday...but still, Christmas I am just like a little kid, and not just about presents.

I am quite familiar with "Scientific theory". I suggest you understand what "theory" means.

My point about Russia was, it doesn't take a "religious' person to see that this all was designed. They have grown up without any personal concept of God. They realize that there is not a chance in "hell" that it would all just happen over millions and millions of years.You can't make your theory any better giving it millions and millions more years.Sorry, it's still an unproven theory. Why that's what makes it a theory!

I am just saying it takes as much belief to go for evolution as it does creation. You believe you came from a rock (or worse: nothing!), I believe an incredibly intelligent entity created it all. I pity you, you look down on me...so freakin' what? Read ALL the evidence-make your decision and be at peace with it. That's the beauty of it, you get to choose what you believe is correct! And one day, we'll find out for sure, won't we? If you're right, it won't matter. If I'm right...well, you may be disappointed...and I don't think God is going to "kill all the evolutionists like cockroaches", cause my Bible says, "God looks on the heart." so I leave it up to him.Course it also says, "They are without excuse" cause the evidence is all around them in creation., but again, that is up to him! Remember, if you were a JW, you fell for a line before, so don't jump at the first thing that seems right to you.Thoroughly investigate!

I do know that the definition for "faith" is also an explantion of physics. That the Bible has a lot of scientific information, some of which is only being aknowleged today.But the validity of the Bible is a whole other rabbit trail isn't it.

If someone really wants to know, they will do the research, and if they have been one of Jehovah's Witnesses, they will be darn sure to look at ALL the information available.Pro and con.

Don't mean to offend you or start a war, just making a few things self evident.

Hi, my name is Llowieke (the fox). I'm from the Netherlands. NO I'm not a former Witness,: in all of the New Testament I cant find a txt about anyone bearing witness of Jehova. Christ is the word, Christ is the name, not Jehova. That's old hat. Interesting reading this Forum. Feel sorry for all you guys and gals that had to put up with this rubbish for such a long time. You are correct here, but Jehovah is not completely ignored. About Jesus it was said, "In him dwells the the fullness of the Godhead BODILY". Jesus means "Jehovah saves."(Or, "Yahshua" means "Yahweh saves") There is a lot of scripture that link the "I AM" with Jesus.You are correct in ascertaining the witnesses missed this. They are stuck in many ways in the Old Testement, and yet will decide which things they will ,and will not believe from there.It's nice when you make up your own religion, you can decide what you will and will not accept!

The Genesis contradiction

i saw a post that mentioned a contradiction in gen. 10 and gen. 11. how in one it says they spoke different lang.

then the next states that there was only one lang.

i mentioned this to my dad to see what he came up with.

I have a really cool version of the four Gospels. They are all put in one. They deleted the repeated verses, and simply added everything else. Some of it fills in holes the others left. But there is no contradiction.

I have heard and discussed a lot of so-called contradictions in the Bible. I would say just about every one (especially that you guys would bring up) are explainable. I will admit there are a few things that I don't understand, but those do not negate the rest of the scripture, and are not important for doctrine or understanding of scripture. They don't contradict, they are just freaking puzzling!

Most people who bring up contradictions, in my experience, have not read the entire Bible, and don't even understand the story. They are repeating things they've heard. I will go so far as to tell you most Christians haven't read the Bible, or studied it much. That is part of the problem (not only) with JWs, they only have experienced it throught the filter of the societies publications.
