I think I would have smiled sweetly and apologized profusely and gathered my little one up and hussled him home. If the sound of a child snoring is that disrupting, I would claim a medical problem and tell them I will come back when it is cured!

Does it shock you that there are so few people on this board?
by free2beme ini read once that the witnesses loss between 30,000-50,000 members in the united states alone each year.
i know the numbers for worldwide exits, must be even larger and times that by all the decades of people leaving and you come to a fairly nice size number.
i realize some of these decreases are deaths, losing track of correct totals or a percentage returning right back into the congregation.

I've had a computer at home for about 5 years, and it never occurred to me to go to a chat site...not to mention an exjw one.I just don't have that kind of time to spend. I came here from a site that had info for helping family out of the org. I was pretty thrilled to find this one, and that there were lots of others out there (who had left) in various stages of healing. I had found one other that did not allow you to commment, and lurked there a few times. but it was annoying to use. If I had found this site while still a witness it would have been tantamount to National treason in my mind to frequent it.But I really wish i had found it a few years earlier.

Need advice and support :(
by glitter inmy mum has been inactive for the best part of a decade.
the other week, the daughter of the woman my mum studied with to become a jw popped over to see mum (they are good friends).
the daughter was saying how she probably won't get baptised herself as there is too much she doesn't agree with, but that she thinks jws are right.

{{Big hug}}glitter. Sounds like a horrible emotional ordeal. You can't be blamed for her leaving "the truth". A.) because it isn't the truth, and B). because we all have to decide for ourselves and can't put it on anyone else. I hope when she finishes her emotional reaction, she will think it through and realize. Course telling you you have more power than Satan himself is pretty flattering (in an awful way) The truth is, when we find truth, we want the truth in us, not "to be in the truth." (The phrase "the truth is not in him" should ring a bell) They have just replaced the name of their denomination with the words " The Truth". They don't own the truth. Let God be true and every man a liar...it's even the title of one of the witness books for heaven's sake.
Hang in there you did the right thing, you brought light and truth to her!

2 elders came for a visit
by Goldminer inat first i wasn't going to post this but i noticed a lot of people here have been getting visits from elders lately, all with pretty much the same results.. three months ago,my wife asked an elder if he could answer some of my questions.he offered to come over, which he did,to waste my time talking in circles to basic questions he couldn't answer from the bible.(i.e.
where does the bible say god has an organization and uses a governing body to direct it?
) anyways, after 3 hours of proving his allegiance tot the wts and showing me his level of denial he said he would do more research on my questions and get back to me.one main question that night had been 607 bce.. last week he made arrangements with my wife to return with another elder.that day i decided, based on advice i got here, that i would not use any research notes, only the bible as final authority(unless we got into 607 since you need secular history to support dates).the discussion started on god's organization, and being that i'm not very good at these type of debates,it basically went in circles with one elder getting upset that i didn't believe that god has a visible organization.he kept asking me well, which religion has the truth then?

Actually, one of the things I learned after leaving the witnesses was that there are other denominations that have many of the same beliefs...just not the controlling priest class atmosphere. Church of God 7th Day and Assemblies of Yahweh for two.Very similar in a lot of ways. I mean if you don't want to research the doctrines that they insist are the truth (hell,Christmas etc) for yourself, there are other places out there as sincere and limiting as the witnesses.

Are you Christmas-retarted?
by Thegoodgirl inhi guys, haven't posted in a while, but i don't see this topic covered: is anyone else out there as christmas retarted as me?
i feel so awkward stumbling over the words "merry christmas" to friends.
also, who do you buy for?

Mysterious, just enjoy the time. Just think, you get to approach it all with childlike wonder and anticipation at an age you can also appreciate what went into it on behalf of your hosts.
Merry Christmas!
Oh, and Hiya Ned!

Well they can talk about new light all they want, but what about building on a false foundation? What about their leader being misled from the start?
The Great Pyramid actually has really interesting ties to the Bible. It ain't scripture, but it is like the stars, it also tells the story.

Goldminer, if you don't mind me putting my 2 cents in, be very gentle how you share with your wife. I don't know if you have decided against God or just the JWs, but it might help to share with her that what you are doing is not denying God, just an organization that pretends to follow him. Not that bluntly of course, but it might soften the blow a bit....just saying...

I felt very strange my first Christmas. Didn't give any gifts. Worked on smiling back when someone said Merry Christmas. My husband just had a small really cute stuffed dog sitting on the end of the bed for me-no packages or tree. As time went by I got more comfortable, and now I love saying Merry Christmas, or Happy Hannuka, or even Kwaanza if I had the chance. You're wishing them happiness, nothing wrong with that!
We have always given what we call "tokens" of our affection at Christmas. I love to shop, so I don't mind looking all year, for unique personal gifts that are not expensive. I always buy my paper and bows after Christmas for the next year-cheaper and then I am ready when the time comes with no panic.
Holiday music, unstressed time with those you love, & some treats are a beginning. When you get in the swing of things in years to come, you can invite others to join you. I send cards (which I buy the year before of course) putting a personal note in them telling friends what they have meant to me during the past year, is really meaningful.these can be done waay ahead of time. I bake (or buy) several kinds of yummy cookies or treats and make up small (like dessert plate size) plates for friends that I know I will see, or who come to visit. Above all Keep it simple, what you can afford, and darn it what you really want to do. There are no Christmas police to come tell you you're doing it wrong.(Not yet anyway!) And everyone who has celebrated Christmas all their lives will understand when you tell them you are keeping in simple this year. Usually they say "wish I could", or "you're smart" cause they have over extended themselves. Personally, I try to keep the "Christ" in "Christmas", but also and because of that, we should remember to keep the "Merry" in "Merry Christmas!" (Gads that sounded corny!)

We all need to get copies of that picture of Christmas at Bethel and keep them as Greetings to give to JW's who stop by during the holiday season. then send them a long with a "Have a nice day."
