So who attended the memorial and why?

I (UBM) went to accompany my wife. No big deal. Same way I go to church with my mother (a Lutheran) once a year on Christmas.

The talk this year actually was not too bad, if you can ignore the rubbish with regards to content of course. We had the CO present who gave the talk, and he can be quite a funny guy with good illustrations and stories.

Being there helps me in my discussions about religion with my wife, when I can slip in a thought provoking idea here or a little seed there. She herself sees some discrepancy there with the occasion being someones imminent death but many JWs only thinking about their new dresses and the nice restaurant food afterwards.

Now I am looking forward to our easter egg hunt on sunday where everybody is going to have a lot more fun than we had yesterday. What do you think will our children remember better? ;-)

hello everybody,i've been lurking for a while and since i really adore reading the biggest part of the posts, especially this italian ( american) guy about his experiences at bethel in the 70's, i feel a little bit guilty for not participating with my contribute.

i am really so sorry for the people that are suffering because of the wts.my story is a " happy ending " story, i married a jw almost 30 years ago and i am here to tell that we are still very happy.

she is very liberal and our 3 kids are " normal ".

I remember your interesting posts on my "raising kids"-thread a while back. I guess because of our liberal JW wives it took both of us a little longer than usual to figure out it's a cult and not a religion.

What is your wife's thinking about the blood issue and her dad's decision to not have surgery? Does she herself carry a no-blood-card?

Good. Don't forget that, if you follow your path towards JWdom. WT literature often tries to equate Jehovah with "his" organisation. Some people - after reading it often enough - believe that. But it's not true. You can leave the organisation without leaving Jehovah. You can follow the bible and live your life according to what Jesus told us, without the JWs and their additional restricting set of rules.

...and can't stop questioning myself about my decision being JW for the first time thinking that I can't even love someone in a way that I want to when I love her with all my heart.. I need support ...

What do you have in mind? I think we need a little more input here. And answered questions like:

Are you trying to become a jw FOR this girl? Or do you truely believe the religion has 'truth'? If this girl wasnt on the scene, would you still become a jw?

what does your girl friend have to say about the high control issues in the JW religion re dating you?

Look, you both are apparently deeply in love. So it's probably very difficult to use your brains right now, but this is exactly what you need to do! Try to step back and look at the situation: There is huge potential for deep conflicts here, mostly for her (her parents, her congregation). And there will be pressure, again mostly for her (pressure to leave you, pressure to at least get you baptized as soon as possible, pressure to get married rather sooner than later). So, you need to be there for her. Hopefully she feels safe and confident enough to talk to you about these things. And be aware, getting baptised and married as soon as possible, might look like a not too bad solution now, but most likely you will deeply regret this in the future.

Fading is never 100% successful is it?

after fifteen years away from meetings and my old jw life you'd think my fade could be called 'successful' and for the most part it is.

In most cases in any family (JW or non-JW) at some point parents will stop pushing their viewpoints on their children. It seems though that percentagewise in JW families they do it longer and more often they never stop, compared to non-JW families. It's up to the (adult) children to teach their parents abound boundaries, because the WT will not.

How do you feel about the expression "The Truth"?

it's amazing how the expression "the truth" has become such an ingrained term used by witnesses.. "we have 'the truth'".

"is he 'in the truth'?".

most here have found out so many facts about the organisation, and felt the effects of being "gut-punched" as we realised these facts.. so how do you feel about the expression "the truth" now?.

Today I've looked into some of the Spanish wikipedia articles. Seem ok to me, more or less balanced with a good amount of criticism included. Apart from the general JW article they also have an extra article about criticism of JWs and additionally one about JW child sex abuse (only four languages have that last one: English, Spanish, Portuguese and Finnish). The Spanish one has a word count of about 5500. In the German wiki there is no specific JW sex abuse article. This topic is included in the general JW article as its last(!) paragraph and contains less than 300 words. The ARC is not mentioned at all.

Why continue to suffer??

i occasionally come on this website because i have my eyes on a particular user.

because of that, i end up reading a lot of people's post.

although very interesting and hurt breaking, a lot of them are very strange.

All of them claim to love their wives or husbands, but they insult them. To me, that is hypocrisy. If you love someone, but they make you feel like less of a person, why stay with them and disrespect them behind their back? That is why of the many reasons I stopped reading posts on this site. Stories like that made me very angry. That is one thing I've never agreed with. As long as you are still married to each other, you shouldn't be complaining about how they treat you unless you are willing to leave. If not, you shouldn't be bashing them.

Well, we are dealing with a cult here. I believe these people in unhappy marriages are mostly bashing their spouses cult persona while still loving the authentic real person behind it. And they stay because they hope, they can make the cult persona disappear one day.
