why does the watchtower call them marriage mates and not spouse?

i have never read the term spouse in a watchtower.

why do they use the expression marriage mate?.

I think it is because a "marriage mate" sounds like something someone else (read: Jehooby) puts together. You "mate" something. You look for the mate to your shoe. It is a very external sounding description.

Etc.

A "spouse" is more personal -like it is you and your husband, no one else allowed. But the WT knows that is not how they want it framed. They need to insert themselves or Jehooby in there so they can control things.

I think my mom used to talk about not dating til you were looking for a "marriage mate" UGH. It is so clinical sounding. Shudder. Bleah...

The way the WTS deals with "marriage mates" usually ends up turning it into "CHECKMATE" Ha ha ha.

What's the most dumbest/petty thing you've heard of someone being "stumbled" over?

- some loser once took offense that i hugged a sister goodbye at a leaving do and ran back to the elders like a little child telling on me.

i was 15, this sister was in her 40s at the time.. - this elder said someone told him they saw me with a copy of the sun newspaper.

yes, this paper is known for its 'page 3' topless girls but far from pornagraphic and i wasn't even thinking along those lines.. - one brother who had a good job was 'counselled' because he was actually able to buy himself nice things including a new car (shock, horror!!

Ha! I like threads like this. Love the ridiculous stories.

My best friend and I were counseled for stumbling a young unbaptized brother by hugging on each other too much. Apparently the young brother (a red-neck conservative dickwad) thought we were lesbians. WTF, seriously. My friend and I would sit with our arms on each other's shoulders every once in a while at the Kingdom Hall. My friend got the worst of it -they didn't let her pioneer because of this aggregious case of stumbling that pervert "brother".

Another time in a separate hall, I had drawn the symbols for the planets in chalk on my bedroom floor, in a circle pattern representing the solar system. It was a super cool drawing and had NOTHING to do with astrology, duh... Well, one brother in my hall ratted me out to his elder dad over it, saying it stumbled him (again, WTF?). I am sure I was censured somehow that I was not even aware of, but anyway. It turns out that that brother who ratted me out was jealous because I had started hanging out with these other guys that were originally *his* friends and we never invited him along anymore. Sheesh.

I am finishing up my PhD right now at age 35. Sort of late in the game but not that bad. I'm in the writing phase which is very hard (for me). I guess I need to get back to it instead of surfing the internet!!

sorry for the redundancy of this being the 3rd article out of this magazine i've made a thread on- but i felt it was important to share these quotes from the aricle titled " make your way successful - how ?

" i think you'll see the extreme dissing of higher education here and guilt tactics used to discourage jw members from getting a college education or earning a decent living.. under the subheading " higher education " ?

it states, " a christian has a scriptural obligation to care for his family, and that includes providing for their material needs.

Ha, I don't spend much more time on school work that your average dub does on their 9-5 job. I'm fortunate enough to get paid to go to school- some teaching tasks every now and then but most of my time has been spent on my research.

Why is what I do "bad" but a dub who spends an equivalent amount of time at Ace Hardware loading pallets is a-OK? Seriously- my time is an investment in the future, when I graduate I'll be making even more $ and will have to work less than I work now.

I wonder what goes through my mom's head when she reads all of this about higher education and "apostate ideas" (she knows that I, a baptized JW, don't believe anymo')

with my french press.. *warning* if fluff topics make you gag and expose your superority complex then this topic is not for you...move along.

a few months ago i got a little french press from a thrift shop but i never used it.

last weekend i went to visit a good friend for a few days and i got my chance to use my little french press because my dear friend doesn't have a coffee maker which is kinda strange cuz he loves coffee just as much as i. .

LOL, MrsJones- I recently got one and LOVE it too. Funny -OTWO, I thought that too, right when I read the first post: let's bring our French presses and have good coffee every morning!

So I have been reading up on the how-tos of French press coffee making and have refined my grinding- so, the electric grinders do not make evenly sized grounds and they also heat up the grounds too much (this does negative things to the flovor and with the oils). If you get a hand-cranked ceramic burr grinder you can get evenly sized ground and if your burr grinder is a conical one, it will not heat up the grounds.

So I have a hand-cranked conical ceramic burr grinder and I LOVE it too. It is so fun and relaxing to grind your own coffee every morning for the French press. What an experrience; the motions of grinding, the smell, letting the press steep. :) Mmmm.

my wife and i are thinking of moving our family to a better place in the us....away from jw family and out of the southern bible belt.

just curious how many of you live around co and, more specifically, near fort collins?

of course, we're open to any city that is less conservative and has awesome summer weather and outdoor activities.

Do you have lotsa buck$$$? Move to Boulder. I lived there for a few years about 10 years ago and worked there for a summer a year ago. It's la la land. The streets are paved in "everyone loves one another" and there is so MUCH fun shit to do and the mountains are like a 5-minute walk from your front door.

Colorado Springs is like the psycho mini bible belt of CO. Ft Collins has awesome outdoor stuff and is like a proxy-Boulder but red-neck. But Ft C. is super rad, very outdoorsy, near the mtns, there is a University there which always brings fun and culture to town and it seems like an easy place to make a living. The cost of living is sorta high but nowhere near what it is in Boulder.

The ones that are *supposed* to taste like meat are nasty. But the ones that are are a bunch of graina and corn and beans with a cheese matrix are awesome. Convenient, you just pop them in the toaster. Num num.
