lol, there was a couple that were dating in our hall that would pioneer together (alone I think) and because of the admonition to "not be alone together in a parked car", they would joke about running red lights out in service so that their car was not "parked". They joked about if an officer tried to pull theem over they'd be all: "sorry! -gotta obey god's laws over men's!" as they sped away. It was actually pretty funny.

I just get a new pair of these at the beginning of June every year:
and call it good. slip on the shape-ups, head out to the pool chair with a bag of cheetos and let the shoes do the work!
I'm figuring I'll lose about 5 pounds a week -can't wait!

Third Generation ... I mean ... First Generation
by RubaDub inon a lighter note, several of us were talking about a family that had moved into our congregation and that the wife was a 4th generation dub.. i made the comment that i used to refer to myself as a 3rd generation dub but i can't do that anymore since my life over-lapped with my grandparents so i am really a 1st generation dub.. it was funny to see the strange look on several of their faces.
one even said, "wow, i have to think about that.
" another said, "well, i never really looked at it that way.".

HOLY SHIT.
Qcmbr, I just got it too, after reading it in your original post.
Seriously. How absolutely funny. (funny that I had not "gotten" the world's oldest and most commonly told joke, not that the pun is all that funny...)

What caught my eye was the hopelessly small size of the sphere that represents the extent Earth's radio signals have traveled.
Seriously, by the time they reach any other intelligence in teh Universe, we will have been long gone.

This is such great news for your nephew.
My (formal) education is quickly coming to a close and I have loved every minute of it. Even though it was delayed by my years as a JW, that was fine as I was more mature when I started...
He will have such a wonderful time -ones who have the priviledge of higher education have such an amazing gift in their hands. I really hope he gets all he can out of it.

Proof that humankind existed at least 28,000 years ago
by The Oracle ini wonder how jws will react to this recent evidence that intelligent man existed at least 22,000 years before adam and eve arrived on the scene?.
it looks like membership will continue to decline as far as intelligent jws are concerned.
i'm sure there will be plenty of society's bottom feeders who will continue to find their way on to the jw publisher lists.

sweet! I'd love to visit there... I know what you mean about immersing yourself in such a place where you can feel the age - seeing fossils like that is truly mindblowing.
(if they are Jurassic they are about 170 million years old tho -stuff that is a million years old is still just plain old dirt.)

You could have 10,000 year old viable, non-petrified charcoal. (There is even wood that is several millions of years old that has been found that is not petrified -i.e. you could burn it in your fireplace if you wanted to).
So you're saying that perhaps 18k ago someone dug up a piece of 10k yer old wood and drew with it, causing us to date the drawing at 28k ago? I suppose that is technically possible but it would be so exceedingly rare that one could find a piece of 10k year old charcoal. Even if a researcher went out with the specific task of finding such a piece, it wouldn't be easy, and that is someone who is *trying* to locate such a piece.
Also, any piece that old would likely be really small. I suspect that cave drawings would be done with a fresh stick with the tip burned to provide charcoal. Carrying a ~1cm^2 piece of charcoal back from having found it in a cutbank or something and using it to draw would be so unlikely as to be impossible I would reckon the researchers would reason. Also, such small pieces wouldn't last but an inch or so on the wall, right?
