good afternoon all.. to clarify... the effort i am engaged in is done out of respect and awe of a most wonderful human being. everything has been on her terms and anything we speak of has been done at her pace. fortunately i was able to recognize the signifigance of this from the start. perhaps because this is how i treat everyone, regardless of situation. however in light of the fact that she is involved in a destructive cult, the more sound knowledge and understanding i come into does nothing more than help in a positive way. anything that any of you can add is as always most appreciated. not having ever been a jw puts me at a distinct disadvantage that with the help of people who have, i hope to build more of an understanding for what she is going through. thank you all for your words, they are MOST appreciated.

one that tows the company line so to speak and the other, the real person asserting their true self?

good day everyone. thank you all for your posts. this duality in the jw is the key i feel to eventually releasing the hold imposed upon them. i feel if there is enough effort directed in truly understanding these different personas in each individual case, it would just be a matter of injecting information at the appropriate time. cyp. you pointed out exactly what i was thinking myself about "rtb". i thought that deserved much more attention than was given in this particular book. anyone that may have personal exp. employing aspects of the sia please feel free to contribute your words. thank you. p.s keeping in mind that in no way am i suggesting this as the easy solution, merely pointing toward a logical first step by which to begin. it is the quality of that first step.......

nice to hear from you jgnat. in order to protect my friends privacy, and let's face it, safety; all i can really say is that she is just one of the most kind and thoughtful people i've met. the jw aspect of her was kept from me for some time and as we grew closer it came out as though it were a confession of sorts. she seemed almost ashamed. she was afraid to speak of it at all at first. so i just let her know that she should feel open to discuss her "religion" or anything for that matter. and things progressed. i have the succinct impression that she is testing the waters of freedom, developing "thoughts of her own" in fact i know she is, this is the person who connected with me and the connection continues to grow. i am doing my absolute best to avoid any mistakes as if i fail my thoughts are she may not have another chance. i often wonder how or why our paths crossed and have come to feel that i am in the situation i am as i have the right qualities to help. i just feel it in my head and heart.

thanks so much for the feedback so far. just to clarify: this is for research only. the working plan is to present myself if questioned as someone who is interested/open to "the truth" and wanted to observe the congregation for myself. thank you for your... insert appropriate response here...

but I am just comfortable being here at the moment, perhaps we can speak another time. i'll let you know, thank you. i am free of any face metal,etc. so won't be a problem there. i also am clean cut, neat in appearance, cordial, etc. by nature so none of this will jive either. in a suit half the time so once again, no problem. i had planned on being open about non-jw status if questioned, merely considering/interested, etc.

also my friend will not be made aware of my attendance before or after... again i will and do not support jw anything. also recognize the potential for this being viewed as positive by my friend, so as was suggested, this will be kept to myself. futhermore, i have a short work related trip out of province coming soon and will attend while i'm there. please everyone who has something, anything to comment...do. i continue to await your posts. thank you so much everyone.

thanks for the response so far. would appreciate hearing some more voices on the subject. to qualify... my reasons for attending are to 1. increase my knowledge of their principles and practices. (keeping in mind, i have no self-esteem issues. sound and healthy thought processes. know full well what they are about. and in NO way whatsoever in danger of falling victim to their ANYTHING.) 2. visual and first person factual account of the kingdom hall environment. 3. keep my friends close, my enemies even closer. 4. derive some parrallel understanding of even the smallest degree of what my friend has and continues to be exposed to. 4. i need to see the inside of a kingdom hall.

my task is ,as you all know, not going to be easy nor reach a quick conclusion. i am looking to know and i mean know in depth absolutely everything that will prove to be of assistance in helping my friend help herself. please keep at the forefront of your thoughts that i am not now or ever will be, in danger of the jw ANYTHING.

i hope the lack of response is not based on anyones reluctance to the proposal i am questioning, the result of concern for my mind/well being/safety,etc.

i cannot state this strongly enough. i am me, i know myself, they NEVER will. please keep any and all suggestions, personal exps, concerns, advice coming.

i continue to await your posts. thank you so much for this. this is something i feel i need to do. keep posting please.
