For those with bf or gf who are JW's: How the JW view non JW's

this thread is a quick primer for those who are fairly unfamiliar with the jw, but have found that they are dating someone who is or used to be a jw.

well just to give you a little background on how jw's view the rest of the non-jw world: they basically see you as a bug.

you are worldly and certain to bring their loved one death at the hands of god at armageddon.

I've been with my JW other half for sometime. Stick around here and read and read. Great stuff here. Most will tell you to run. You have to do what is in your heart.

Hiding you from the family is a cruelty, I only had to deal with for a few months before I said that I don't need this kind of life. I can happily live by myself. I don't need him, but I do want to be with him and left it up to him to decide what he wants to do with his life. I definatly aren't asking him to change (Of this I have NO right, nor does he have any right to MAKE me change).

Again hang around and check the best of section and relationship section. Jgnat started up a series for non-jws involved with someone in the troof.

Hey UBM's - good things about being in a commited relationship with a JW??

in the spirit of jgnat's poll's.... let's name some good things about being in a commited relationship/marriage with a jw who actually follows wts doctrines.

i know there will probably be a lot of sarcastic responses.

i'll start.. because of my husbands faith and actual belief in the way he was raised - i know he won't cheat on me or be out in the bars.

I get to watch what I want on tv tuesday and thursday night.

When he's being faithful. When he's not it's a pain, because you know a man and the remote control issue...

Likes to believe he is in charge of the house. Has very strong family values. (I come from a very loving family with strong family values).

He's alittle naive. (very occasionally comes across as ignorance).

CHRYSTAL thanks for putting a positive, nice light post for a change. We spend so much time thinking that being JW is the root of all evil, when some of us actually love and are friends with the strange creatures that they are.

my other half's sister is dating a wb, (i'm a wg), she wants to know how to deal with all of us strange worldly people (she's says this with a humph).

her boyfriend, is being very male, problem is my darling jw half agreed (my turn to humph and sulk, go to the fridge and get a beer for me only).. they haven't quite made the step to look here themselves, so they asked me to look for them, i told them they are wusses .

anybody have anything for me to print out for them, not too nasty about us worldly lot.

Self Mutilation - In A "Spiritual Paradise"? Awake Feb '06

i found this latest article in the awake to be quite remarkable.

while they try to explain cutting yourself as a sickness in the world, it.

nevertheless makes clear that some witness kids are committing this self multilation, too.

Jo-Jo a tattoo sounds like a good idea.

My sister also a cutter (alot younger than me, never knew I did it till I found her unconcious down at the stables. I left home when she was 13 and went to Europe), I got her a tattoo cover the worst of the scars (scar tissue is a little hard for the tattoo artist to cover), she is now addicted to tattoos.

My soon to be sister-in-law's boyfriend is just being a mere male as in below:

On a more serious note though he is struggling to cope with the fact he hasn't met any of her family other than my other half. Which is why I have sent him to this site. He will be lurking around here somewhere.

While my dearly beloved's family know about me and are coping with the fact we are together and I WILL NOT study, they may not cope as well with their darling daughter being with a WB (they have 5 children, one already married to a JW, the oldest is with me).

If, on the other hand, he is having trouble with the exclusiveness and abusiveness of JW relationships (can't go here, EEK hide in the closet, must go there), he has a legitimate beef.

Both of us worldly pair in these relationships are very open and giving people. We have never had to hide anything in our lives (except when we had to sneak a smoke down in the back shed;).

What our JW other half's can't cope with is, is our honesty and openness. It's like they don't know anything except how to hide the truth, not lie outright, just not say anything.

a to what makes me happy, well, i'm happy when other people are happy.

i'm happy when i give my grandchildren plenty of hugs and kisses.

Thanks, have printed lots of stuff out for them, been lurking around for the last year.

My other half's sisters bf is here somewhere too. We have often found info to help us non-jw. Not much for the JW to deal with us mad worldly lot though.

As a non-christian loving a JW (sometimes fading), this is great. I choose to be with him not to SAVE him. I printed this off for him. We are pretty open. He has his moments and as perfect as I am, I have mine. ;)

This site with this sort-of info has been great for us.

but you know, i still cut myself. it doesn't mean you want to really harm yourself, it just means you want to escape for a bit. the pain comes back worse than before, but like any addiction, you keep doing it because the relief is, for a few moments, beautiful.

Yeap, sometimes I catch myself thinking about cutting instead of crying. Crying's ok. But people can see you been crying. Cutting can be done out of site and it hurts only me.

Like Lady Lee said it's to deaden the emotional pain. I am a reforming cutter, physical pain is soooooo much easier to deal with than emotional pain. I never cut where anyone could see, but I did do it as a so called adult, only occasionally in my late teens.

I'm afraid JW's don't have the all of emotional pain, they just seem to have more condensed within a group than many other groups in society.
