  Quick question regarding Pioneers

  how many hours are currently required to be a pioneer?

  70 hours per month, 840 hours per year. Once you complete your first year you are elligible to attend the Pioneer School which is a 2-week training (intense indoctrination) period. There is also one meeting per Circuit Overseer's visit, and one meeting per year with the congregation's Service Committee. Other than that there are no other requirements/time commitments.

  I think it's highly unlikely its some sort of embezzlement, just mismanagement. I mean, where could the old codgers put all that money anyway? They don't even have time to enjoy it - it's not they are living in oppulence somewhere, they are living in Brooklyn Bethel, and even though there are some nice penthouses in some of the hotels they own, it's nothing overly lavish.
  
  This is what raised a red flag for me: directing everyone to give their money to the world-wide work fund in order for the Society to appropriate funds accordingly. I conducted a service meeting part about a month ago where this came up. Someone made the comment about how you could write on the check "for Katrina fund" or something like that and I corrected them (in a round-a-bout way, of course) that the Society had recently mentioned we should put our money into the WWW fund for them to allocate however they felt was most beneficial. It bothered the hell out of me of course, but when you've been giving talks for a while you learn to just bullshit your way through no matter how weird it sounds.
  
  I'm not saying this is the scandal, but things like this have been stacking up for the past couple of months. When I was conducting that meeting part I could see several eyebrows raise and I knew they thought it sounded weird, too. If there where to be some major financial scandal you can be sure a lot of people would leave or start fading.

  I said it before and I'll say it again...
  
  ... I think it's mismanagement of funds. It's something which would be shocking to non-JW and JW alike. Something which matches the "hoodwinking, lying" phraseology used by Barbara. Also, it can't be any kind of doctrinal change because Barbara is approaching this from a scandal/coverup slant, not a belief change.

  Yes, same here. If Fred Franz rose from the dead (again), appeared at every District Convention simultaneously and said "c'mon, everybody, go home. I had New World Translation 2.0 on the way and they had me killed because of a few things...." or something to that effect, my family would still be like "well, I'm gonna follow the FDS... gotta treat Jesus' brothers like I woulda treated Jesus...."

  To those who answered in the affirmative, I was raised a JW in an extrememly zealous household. I know what the JW's believe. I am just constantly amazed that I did not see this double-tonguery before. I mean, I think it bothered me, but there were a hundred different ways I could rationalize it... I couldn't bea rto approach the great Unknown of "what if its all just a bunch of BS?"
  
  I think a lot of JW's don't really ask themselves that question (title of thread) or at least give themself the chance to mull over it and come to a conclusion.

  I can say with absolute certaintly that this is the kind of garbage that opened my eyes after being raised in the truth. WATCHING and HEARING the WTS speak out of both sides of their mouth. They qualify this behaviour by saying it is just using persuasion but it is simply misleading. If I were to treat people this way, it would make me feel dishonest.
