Well, I think your chances of getting by with minimum interference from the local elders are pretty good. By your nick name I gather your'e going to Chico State possibly? That's a big university - you should be able to get lost in shuffle....

It is very unlikely they will announce you as a new person in the hall. And no, they will keep your cards in your new congregation and try to get you to the meetings depending on how faithful they are in their assignments.
Oh, and welcome to JWD! -

What if my Independent thinking is Dependent on the masses of Society publications in my conclusion that they are wrong? Am I still being independent? I am trully dependent on the word of the Society in coming to my conclusions.

Have you been enjoying the Daniel Book?
by dothemath in.
the society's reasoning on the book of daniel gets pretty thin in on chapter 15............it jumps from the time of the romans under aurelian, all the way to britain, germany, etc.
within one verse.. jesus applied daniel 11: 31 to the time of the roman siege and the destruction of jerusalem....but of course the society adds to this and includes an entire modern fulfillment which requires a large amount of "faith" in their interpretation.. none of the events they talk about in chapter 15 are reflected in any meaningful way in daniel's prophecy...........i get the impression even our conductor is just going through the motions on this chapter.. the logic gets better in verse 43 of chapter 11............regarding the "treasures of egypt, the libyans, and the ethiopians..............and trying to apply this to our time.. have any of you been enjoying the daniel book?

The Daniel book is the most convoluted mass of horse shit I have ever read. They make so many stretches, trying to apply those chapters 7-10 to everything that happened from 607 to now. I mean, entire centuries can be tied to half a sentence of prophecy! Rediculous.

The false pride of a "Window Washer"
by LDH inback when my sister and i were regular pioneers in the late 80's, there were many things that caught my ear.
i don't usually make an effort to remember them, but i did yesterday.. i was sitting at a red light yesterday.
i happened to look to the right and i saw a middle aged black man washing the windows at the strip mall......... ken and debbie mccarthy were two regular pioneers in our congregation.

LDH,
Not sure what your point is... nothing wrong with having humble employment. Hell, some people just dont have the ambition for anything else. And taking pride in your work - whatever it is - is an admirable thing. How is having pride in being able to clean a window "false"?
You sure have a knack for putting your foot in your mouth - and even more of a knack for backtracking... lol. -

Do you still believe in JEHOVAH?
by lowden infurther to the thread that minimus stated about 'still believing'....what i want to know is do any of you stil believe in jehovah?
that is, the named god of the bible that sanctioned the genocide of millions of unbelievers.
as the israelites came into the 'promised land' god told them to devote to destruction 7 populous nations and not let a breathing thing live, or in other words commit genocide!!!

I think the more apt question for me is "do I WANT to believe in Jehovah." THe answer is no. I am still trying to break out of the habit of bowing my head before a meal. Who the fuck am I praying to? THe emptiness was always there before, except now I just accept it and eat my food. There is no god to thank it for. It grew from the ground, and that is good enough for me. If the Creator wanted praise from me, he/she/it would have communicated with me in less confusing fashion than the Christian Bible provides. Seriously, with thousands of religions stemming from one text, how the hell would the god of that text expect anyone to find the supposedly right one. For that reason and many others, I find the god of Abraham and the god of Jesus to be utter bullshit. Jesus was cool, until he got resurected - which is impossible, by the way. THe laws of nature dictate that resurection cannot happen - and why would this god break his own LAWS in order to do it? Doesn't stack up. The entire Judeo/Christian world and everything else stemming from it is a house of cards that collapsed long, long ago... excpet the world is still full of people who would rather beleive irrationally.

With Albert Schroeder gone, there is a disturbance in the force...
by truthseeker inwith prince albert in heaven at jesus' right hand, there is now a gap in the force among the governing body.. the new administration is now one man short.
who will be his replacement?
maybe that's why they appointed geoffrey jackson and the other dude to gb members - they knew schroeder was going soon, maybe barr will be next.. .

The young guys are just as reactionary as the old ones, believe me. They know how to climb the theocratic ladder, for sure, but that does not translate into progressive reform of the religion.

Film Scenes that got burnt onto your memory
by greendawn inwhat were some film scenes that pleased or horrified you so much that they stayed vivid in your memory for a long time?
the one i always recall is the scene where anthony hopkins (playing as hannibal lector) lobotomised ray liotta (paul krendler) cutting off pieces of his brain and giving them to him to eat.
he also took some of liotta's cooked brain in a plane and gave them to an unsuspecting passenger boy sitting next to him to eat.

Mine was a dream-sequence in a movie called Pandaemonium. It is a fictional biography of Samuel Taylor Coleridge and his friend, William Wordsworth. Anyway, the guy had an addiction to opium and there was this one dream sequence describing his thought process during the composition of his famous poem Kubla Khan. It's sort of an obscure movie, but it is excellent for those who apreciate more off-the-wall kinda stuff.

I have recently been mildly interogated myself. I guess my "fall from grace" was a little too rapid to go unnoticed by the PO. So the other night he took me aside and asked me to "help him understand it." Basically, I told I deal with things privately and I really don't know how to explain it to him. And that's that. I'm not going to play their game of faux-confession because if I say anything that I really feel I will be labeled an apostate. Basically, I am giving off "leave me alone" vibes until they hopefully forget about me and move on.
