Which is your favourite single malt Scotch Whisky, and why?
by lifelong humanist inas a true scot, i'm deeply passionate about most things scottish, any possibly one of our small nation's most successful export is my main favourite - our single malt whisky heritage.. i'm writing this while savouring a 12 year old highland park - distilled in the orkney islands, the most northerly distillery in scotland.
it is one of my favourites - it was my late father's favourite tipple.
yet, only 500m from my house is scotlands oldest legal whisky distillery - glenturret, in crieff.

don't let anybody tell you Scotch has to be room temperature and diluted with a little water - any spirit made in industrial volumes is diluted way before you get it so further dilution is arbitrary
Not so with all scotches. For example, Glenfarclas is bottled at about 66%. That can be a little stiff for most, and a few drops of water quiet it down and really open up its aroma and taste. It just depends on the scotch and your tastes.
As far as temperature is concerned, I couldn't imagine drinking a nice scotch refridgerated or with ice in it... that's what blends are for.
She has discovered recently the proper way to serve it in the right glass. The rim bends inward like a wine glass but more exagerated. The aroma fills the nostrils while sipping.
I've gotten mixed messages regarding the "proper" way to drink scotch. (Of course, we're talking single malts here, so serving in a tumbler is right out.) But I'm talking about the tulip-shaped glasses versus the inward-tapered-rim glasses. The thing I like about the latter is how easier it is to savor the aroma... and in that case I like the biggest, roundest glass available. Most of the time, it ends up being a big-ass bordeaux-style wine glass. But the tulip-shaped glasses are nice too, since the profile is so much smaller, they look pretty cool, and the way it spreads across your tongue and hits the tastebuds on the sides of the tongue is pretty effective with the peaty malts.

The 12 yr Hihgland pak is pretty good, very smoky. Best I've had is the 16 yr Lagavulin... My most commonly-drank scotch is 10 yr Laphrioag (sp?)--pretty affordable.
Another great one with a lot of complexity is the Glenfarclas 105--that's a serious motherfucking scotch.

Good food? WTF??? lol
I worked some in food service... Made breakfast (the egg muffins were the best of a bad lot) along with the hoagies and Shasta were what I was given.
He's not talking about the "old days", but the "old old days", before hogies and shasta soda. I heard they even served steaks back in the 40s or something.

Adobe cs4 indesign
by Georgiegirl ini would imagine cs3 would be similar.
i'm laying out a book for a client and have a question.
just thought on the off-chance....

Yes, I do have word and could do it that way EXCEPT this is going to be a series of books so I'd rather set it up once, correctly. Then I can just re-use the styles AND be sure of consistency throughout the series. Each one is about 200 pages.
I don't see how Word wouldn't fit the bill, except of course, InDesign is more precise when it comes to locating a block of text on page or what have you. In either case, reusing templates for any program is not a super cut and dry process. My company routinely writes and reproduces several-hundred page (and thousand-page) documents, and we try to minimize the amount of work that goes into formatting. However, reusing formats and styles never goes 100% smoothly, and requires painstaking edits to get it right.
In my experience, InDesign is no more "reliable" in this respect than Word, believe it or not. InDesign may be slightly more user friendly, but if you know some of the more advanced techniques in Word, it can be a suprisingly sophisticated program.
In any case, I wish you luck.

Also, if all you're doing is document layout, and you don't have a ton of images, you can do a lot in plain old MS Word, if you know how to use section breaks and whatnot.

Maybe b/c it's a student edition?
I don't know... it's probably the second-most popular adobe program (besides acrobat), after photoshop. It was all I used for my undergrad days.

Comments from an elder judt returning from Elders' School
by Room 215 ina good friend and long-time elder just back from patterson, asked me what i thought is he most prevalent problem elders are facing today....told him i had no idea.... he said "pornography" by far the most vexing problem for them... hard to believe, no?.

It doesn't matter that pornography has nothing to do with the real problems, but that the Society has something to beat the flock with, something they KNOW everyone does, and therefore a tool to use for the exploitation of GUILT.
You couldn't believe how much admonition they give at Bethel for pornography, we're talking WAY more than what you'd hear at the congregation level. This is because they know just about every young male has, or does, view pornography and/or masturbates regularly. Statistics show over 90% of young males masturbate. It's simply something that has to be done, physiologically. So the Society exploits this and twists it into something that instills constant guilt on Bethelites in order to control them at every level emotionally.
Think about it: if you can get someone to allow themselves to be manipulated at the deepest emotional level, they will do just about anything for you.
