This is EXACTLY what the rank and file need to hear during times like these. Really, this will just make the GB look like the old crusts they really are: out of touch.

Dec. 15th WT - WT Society REALLY Minimizes Earning a Decent Living
by flipper init's ridiculous.
i saw this so much in my 44 years in the jehovah's witness cult.
whether it was elders, pioneers, or other people in the cult criticizing others for working too much at their employment or missing some service or meetings due to employment.

PDF magazines may be used to compliment the WTS publishing work, but that ceartainly doesn't meant that printed magazines are on their way out.
I can easily see them dispense with offering periodical magazines in the ministry, and switch over to just tracts, books, and other things. It would mean greater effeciency for those offering literature, and for them, since they would only have to publish the mags for publishers.

The society has already stated they will move out of NYC. And their actions are backing this up... so I'm not sure why there is still a question about this.

Official visit from two local elders one fine Sunday morning
by SnakesInTheTower inwell, it finally happened.
a week ago sunday my fiancee and i were sitting in the living room drinking coffee and watching the morning talking heads when we heard the crunch of tires on the gravel in the driveaway, about 10:30 or so.
we looked at each other with that "are you expecting anyone?

Great news Snakes. yeah, don't waste your time playing their games. They can write paperwork, call meetings, make announcements, and put in many hours of busywork for a corporatized sectarian American religion. You can go live your life and spend time with those who love you. "F*** this s***," is the most appropriate thing I can say.

Who are the publishers? It would be interesting if the rank and file had to fill out some kind of on-line registration in order to download the PDF, but for some reason I don't think that's the case. Time will tell, I guess.
This is interesting. They may try to do some lame secure-access thing, where a publisher needs some sort of pass-key to logon, or open the file. The thing about PDF files is they have various security options... maybe they'll try to make it so they can't be copied, but only printed. Of course, PDF security is a joke, so I'm sure if they try this certain JWs and apostates will have no trouble circumventing whateer measures they have in place to minimize the proliferation of electronic copyrighted files.

Pretty soon I bet they'll just have one Awake and WT magazine per month... oh wait.
Pretty soon I bet they'll just put the magazines on the Internet for people to download and print on demand... oh wait.
Pretty soon I bet they'll find a way to stop printing magazines alltogether, while still claiming that the Watchtower is still being published by issuing it online.

do employers view online degrees as lesser than ones earned at a university on site? i just keep wondering if, after i go thru all the effort of getting the degree, i will have a harder time getting hired than someone who went to classes in person...? any thoughts on this?
I personally would not waste my time with online programs. Not only are they considered faux-degrees, they are expensive. There are some situations where these kind of degrees can suit you just fine... such as when you work for a large corporation and they have arbitrary requirements for promotions. It's then that it's just a "piece of paper." A friend of mine is getting his BA from Pheonix because the bank he works for will consider him for a promotions once he has his degree. However, if it's LEARNING you want, and a real degree that actually means something, then skip these profit-making degree-granting businesses.
Definitely look into junior/community colleges. I cannot say enough good things about them. Out here in CA at least, there is a BOGG fee waiver that waives tuition fees if you sign a form declaring income below a certain level. Even if you have to pay tuition, its very reasonable. Community college is the way to start out... you'll be among a lot of fellow "returners," with similar challenges you face. Also, many classes offered will be night or weekend classes for working adults.
What you need to do is go see an academic counselor at your local community college. Explain to them your goals, plans, and they'll tell you what you need to do to get there.
You'll be surprised just how many parents with children are doing the exact same thing you're thinking of doing. My wife is in a nursing program, and there are a ton of people with kids, and with their spouse working while they are in school. My wife and I did the same thing, except without kids. But we have one on the way, and I will likely continue my education for a doctorate.
When people think of college they often think of 18-22 year olds living in dorms, and without a care in the world. Well, they certainly do exist, but there is a whole other world of people pursuing higher education apart from that rather narrow stereotype.
So look into COMMUNITY COLLEGES!

Maybe because we remember a person's manner of speech more than a tiny icon to the left. And your style of speech is more like a man's... with all due respect.

An Elder wrote anomously...
by Butterflyleia85 ini realize as an elder that i am speaking out against the very organization i try to faithfully represent, but i personally think that the governing body is wrong by teaching that only what they teach us, as printed in the watchtower publications, should be considered to be the truth.
theyve made the expression of any personal opinions or group debates over their official versions of biblical truths subject to disciplinary action often leading to someone being disfellowshipped.. .
that is why i feel that i must keep my own identity somewhat anonymous.

There is no perfect way to discuss JW's. The very nature of the JW membership ensures that damaged people will either join and leave, or be born in and leave. No one exits unscathed, which is why I think it unrealistic to put his opinion the way he did. (very unsympathetic) I don't disagree (again, in theory) with him, but realistically, it isn't going to change. I doubt it is even possible. And that is fine. If someone wants to look like a dope dealer on a Youtube video, at least I know they are WAY more authentic then others. I do the best I can to judge people by the content of their character and their posted opinions.... How they look isn't important to me. Thats an old JW mindset. (i.e. don't trust them, they don't look right. See, his hair is long, thats all you need to know....)
Jeff, basically, he is making the arrogant assumption that every apostate site is for him. If it doesn't speak to him, if it doesn't appeal to his sensibilities, it must be flawed. Yep, a typical, young, ASS of an elder. The real issue here is, as you say, authenticity. But of course, JWs make an artform out of ignoring their true selves, so how could we expect otherwise.
What's really going to be fun for him, is when he gets out in the real world and realizes no one cares who he is or what he thinks anymore, and that any semblance of authority he had in the congregation is a laughing stock. Of course, he could stay in, but as you say, staying in while knowing the real truth is a nightmare.
