Would Witnesses REALLY drink the "Kool-aid" if the faithful slave told them to? Yes or no?
by Witness 007 ina "spiritual leader" tells his followers the must put on rebok running shoes and "drink the cool-aid" to join a ufo in the tail of a comet and "go to a better world" so, afew dozen young people do just that to get "beamed up" to the mothership.
heavens gate cult 1990's.. my mother says "she is faithful to the organisation till her death" which makes me wonder if they ordered a mass suicide like the reverend jim jones did to escape a "great tribulation"....how many witnesses would really drink the cool-aid?...
without a gun pointed at their head of course!.

Some would drink the Kool-aid, for sure, but by and large most of them wouldn't. Despite the cultish aspects of the JWs, they still don't have quite that level of control over their members. I think the JWs that say they are loyal "to the death" are referring to situations where they would have to make a decision based on their "Bible-trained concsience" that would then put their life in danger, such as not accepting blood, or refusing to heil hitler, or whatever.

One of my favorite places is Carmel-by-the-sea because of its strict zoning. No billboards. No street lights. No street signs. Pedestrian friendly sidewalks. Mom and pop businesses. No mainstream Wal-mart or Supertarget corporate encroachement.
You really feel like you are someplace else than the place you just came from there!
Just outside of Carmel the corporate cookie-cutter world looms large and with a vengence. But, it just serves to reinforce the intelligent use of zoning at Carmel.
One thing that strikes me about this sentiment is how contrary it is to many of your libertarian-leaning comments. Strict zoning practices directly limit property rights. I don't disagree with your sentiments, but I just wanted to point out how easy it is to appreciate nice communities that have gotten that way by restricting the supposed rights of property owners. You can't have it both ways.

Why Do Women Like Men With Hard,Tanned (cough, cough) Bodies ...

Consistent with recent Prude Policies I find the title of this thread to be potentially offensive. Particularly the words "Hard" and "Bodies" could conjure unwanted imagery in the minds of the innocents or those among us who strive to pummel our body members.

This is an example of the kind of thing we don't much encourage in the U.S.
I think of the sort of hand made architecture the Old World sported and then look at our boxy buildings and bland freeways and wonder how the arti went out of us so easily.
What you are describing is the modernist architecture of the 50s and 60s, primarily, where the emphasis was on the function of buildings and the art being derived from that function. Great idea, but many structures were poorly executed and it simply became another "style" to be repeated over and over. A classic example is the Twin Towers. Modernist architecture was more a celebration of engineering feats and other "left-brain" mentalities than an organic expression. Couple that with the Euclidean zoning practices that had dominated local planning by this time and you got lots of mindless boxes scattered everywhere.
